Nintendo eShop blows out some sales before May 9

The Nintendo eShop is doing some spring cleaning, throwing a handful of games up for sale today through May 9: 3D Classics: Kirby's Adventure, Dillon's Rolling Western, Pushmo, Fluidity: Spin Cycle and Tokyo Crash Mobs. Also on sale right now is Code of Princess, down from $40 to $30, and Level-5's Guild 01 collection is still cheap now through May 30.

Kirby's Adventure and Pushmo are each $5 (originally $7), Dillon's is $7 (originally $10), Fluidity is $8 (originally $11), and Tokyo Crash Mobs is $5 (originally $6). The Guild 01 collection includes Liberation Maiden and Crimson Shroud - each $5, down from $8 - and Aero Porter, which is $3, rather than the $5 standard.

Classic games available for 30 cents on Wii U eShop, Balloon Fight up first

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo will make one game available on the Wii U eShop every month for $0.30 between now and July. Each NES or SNES game will be available at the discounted price for 30 days.

First up is Balloon Fight, which is available right now on the eShop at the discounted price. The next six are listed in the picture above. Remember, you only have 30 days to grab each game for $0.30. Virtual Console games will arrive on the Wii U in greater numbers following the spring system update.

Ubisoft Uplay app now on Wii U

Been playing Ubisoft Wii U games without accruing the publisher's invented Uplay currency like some kind of chump? Now's the time to feel better about yourself, because the Uplay app is now available for download through the Nintendo eShop.

If you've signed into Uplay with your info through any Ubisoft game on Wii U, the app will automatically detect your information. Through the Uplay app you can view your achievements, spend your Uplay bux on content for various Ubisoft games and perhaps ponder why you put so much stock in imaginary economies.

VVVVVV arrives on the 3DS eShop on December 29

Terry Cavanagh's great platformer VVVVVV is heading to a 3DS near you as promised: The game has been set for release on the Nintendo eShop next week. Starting December 29, you'll be able to grab the game (published by Nicalis, the company behind Cave Story and its various iterations) for a price of $7.99 on your 3DS, and take on the game's many frustrating yet ingenious challenges for yourself.

Or, if you've never played the title before, you could go try out the free Flash version, or play it on PC or Mac as you wish. It's a great and well-made experience for sure, but bring all of the patience you have. You'll need it.

3DS Virtual Console getting Game Gear and TurboGraphx-16 games, coming late May

In addition to select, hand-picked Game Boy and Game Boy Color classics, the 3DS's Virtual Console will also play host to titles from two slightly surprising sources: The Sega Game Gear and TurboGraphx-16 handhelds. No specific entries from the two devices were named during Reggie Fils-Aime's presentation at Nintendo's GDC keynote today -- though we've got our fingers crossed for the speedy arrival of Sonic Chaos.

Fils-Aime also confirmed the late May arrival of the Virtual Console via a system update, which wiill also introduce a handful of the device's other online features, including: DSiWare (and the ability to transfer DSiWare games from a DSi or DSi XL), the web browser and eShop. It's likely to be the same update that will add Netflix and some 3D video features, too.
