<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YwLQSTo_ow">Comm scan has detected</a> that new <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/star-wars-the-force-unleashed"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a> Avatar items are now available on Xbox Live Marketplace. Yes, even <em>more</em> <em>Star Wars</em> stuff for your digital self. Normally, we would scoff at things like this, but hey ... there's a Stormtrooper outfit. Oh sure, you could get <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/avatar/offers/022f0007-0000-4000-8000-00004c4107e2/">a <em>clone</em> trooper outfit</a> before, but why waste money on that when the <em>obviously superior</em> Stormtrooper armor is available?<br />
<br />

Well, this is nice to hear. LucasArts' big gamble - moving development of its signature properties back to its internal teams - continues to pay off with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Star-Wars-The-Force-Unleashed/"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a>. The latest figure out of the House That Luke Built for what's already been billed as the "fastest-selling Star Wars game ever" is that <em>Force Unleashed</em> has "sold seven million units worldwide" since its September 2008 release. Seven million!<br />
<br />
While strong sales figures are hardly rare for the <em>Star Wars</em> franchise, good games are. Lucky for all of us, LucasArts is busy continuing its wild experiment with a (get this!) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Star-Wars-The-Force-Unleashed-2">sequel</a>, due for release later this year, as well as "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/16/lucasarts-developing-the-force-unleashed-2-internally-hiring-fo/">other unannounced products</a>." Perhaps another stab at that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/12/despite-rumors-lucasarts-is-committed-to-new-indiana-jones-ga/">next-gen <em>Indiana Jones</em> game</a>?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/23/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-has-sold-seven-million-copies/">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has sold seven million copies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Feb 2010 21:00:00 EST. As luck would have it, that one missing piece of content for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-wars-the-force-unleashed">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</a></em> that was "exclusive" to the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/24/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-receiving-ultimate-sith-edition/">Ultimate Sith Edition</a>" of the game -- the obligatory Hoth level -- seems to be heading to Xbox Live Marketplace. Spotted by Joystiq reader Andy in the "Coming Soon" section of the XBLM (and seen above), the "<em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em> Hoth Bonus Level" certainly appears to be heading to, at very least, Xbox 360 users. We've contacted LucasArts to find out how much the content will cost, when we can expect to see it arrive on Xbox Live for download, and if it will be coming to PlayStation 3 and PC users as well. <br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: left; ">It didn't take a Jedi Master to conclude that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-wars-the-force-unleashed"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a> would be getting a sequel -- after all, it met with tremendous success, ranking as the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/force-unleashed-sells-1-5-million-units-in-a-week/">fastest-selling</a> <em>Star Wars</em> video game of all time and moving more than six million copies to date. Still, LucasArts <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/lucasarts-cuts-hit-force-unleashed-team-after-all/">laid off</a> a majority of the team that developed it before the game even hit shelves, so many that our source at the time told Joystiq that the remaining group would be insufficient to produce a sequel should one be ordered.<br />
<br />
So, now that <em>The Force Unleashed 2</em> is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/12/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-2-revealed-intense/">officially happening</a>, we naturally began to wonder: who's making the game? When asked for comment on the topic, LucasArts president Darrell Rodriguez told Joystiq, "Our internal team here in San Francisco will be focused on the game in addition to other development partners. The San Francisco team is made up of <em>TFU</em> veterans who are all bringing their hard earned muscle memory to the development process." Rodriguez didn't elaborate on who these "development partners" are, but it's clear that a core team at the company's Northern California HQ is only part of the development effort.<br />
<br />
Rodriguez did not remark on whether any new staff is being hired to work on the title internally, but did reveal to us that LucasArts is "also currently hiring for some other unannounced products that we are internally developing as well." We're just going to assume that none of the staff who received pink slips last summer will be sending in resumes.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/16/lucasarts-developing-the-force-unleashed-2-internally-hiring-fo/">LucasArts developing The Force Unleashed 2 internally, hiring for 'other unannounced products'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Dec 2009 21:25:00 EST. Trophies for <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Star-Wars-The-Force-Unleashed/">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</a> are now available for gamers looking to increase their online reputation. In case <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/27/remember-the-force-unleashed-its-getting-trophies/">you forgot</a>, the catch for the new awards is that gamers cannot get them retroactively, forcing Jedi (or Sith) masters to replay the 2008 release. For what we can only assume is everybody's reaction to the reminder, check out the video after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/23/psa-the-force-unleashed-trophies-now-available/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PSA: The Force Unleashed trophies now available</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/23/psa-the-force-unleashed-trophies-now-available/">PSA: The Force Unleashed trophies now available</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 23 Aug 2009 21:30:00 EST. <div align="left">Of course <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Star-wars-the-force-unleashed"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a> isn't dead. Who told you that? Not only was a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/24/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-receiving-ultimate-sith-edition/">new version</a> announced to be released this fall, but the <a href="http://twitter.com/lucasartsgames/status/2878200541">LucasArts twitter feed</a> has revealed that the original PS3 version will be receiving a Trophy patch around the same time. The only catch: You'll need to start a new game in order to begin earning Trophies; they aren't retroactive with existing saved games.<br /><br />Sure, you'll still need to pony up the cash for the <em>Ultimate Sith Edition </em>if you intend on playing one of the new missions, but if, like us, you still have an unopened copy of the original sitting around from the Great Game Flood of Q4 2008, you'll no doubt welcome the excuse to finally crack it open. Apparently it's pretty good. For a <em>Star Wars</em> game.</div>

After <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/16/new-force-unleashed-achievements-discovered/">new achievements</a> were discovered for <em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em>, it's no surprise that the marketing machine is ramping up again for the game. <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/07/20/deal-of-the-week-the-force-unleashed-jedi-temple-mission-pack.aspx">Major Nelson</a> notes that this week's "deal" on Xbox Live's marketplace is the "Jedi Temple Mission Pack"<span class="album_title"> for 400<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($5)</span>. The pack also comes with three new outfits made out of ... well, we never did find out what happened to those Bothans.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/20/xbox-deal-of-the-week-is-old-force-unleashed-mission/">Xbox 'Deal of the Week' is old Force Unleashed mission</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Jul 2009 10:30:00 EST. <em>The Force Unleashed</em> may have sold 5.7 million units worldwide, but let's take a look at the substance of that figure. <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=22256">Gamasutra</a> notes that the global total is made up of all the various platforms the title was available on. The list includes all major consoles, handhelds, iPod Touch, iPhone, N-Gage (for realz?!) and <em>other mobile devices</em>.<br /><br />Despite the varying quality of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/force-unleashed"><em>Force Unleashed</em></a> on all platforms, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/16/metareview-the-force-unleashed-360-ps3/">competent</a> next-gen offerings were <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/force-unleashed-sells-1-5-million-units-in-a-week/">a hit right out of the space hanger</a>. Although the gameplay may not have been stellar, the story certainly captured people's attention, as the title went on to recently win a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/09/force-unleashed-grips-writers-guild-video-game-award/">Writers Guild award for game writing</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/11/the-force-unleashed-spread-thin-sells-5-7m-units/">The Force Unleashed spread thin sells 5.7m units</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Feb 2009 15:27:00 EST. <em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em> has been <a href="http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2009/02/force-unleashed-wins-wga-videogame-award.html">awarded</a> the second annual video game writing award by The Writers Guild of America. The Writers Guild of America has <a href="http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2009/01/writers-guild-videogame-award-nominees-announced.html">announced</a> five nominees for best video game writing in 2008. This will be the Guild's second year giving out the award, with last year's nod going to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/15/dead-head-fred-wins-wgas-first-video-game-writing-award/"><em>Dead Head Fred</em></a>. Hmm, well, this year's nominees are certainly an interesting group and are sure to generate some conversation about what constitutes good writing in a game ... provided said game was written by an eligible WGA member, that is.<br />

Although most of those titles are instantly recognizable, <em>Dangerous High School Girls</em> is an <a href="http://www.mousechief.com/dhsg/index.html">indie title</a> that's (clearly) gaining some recognition. Are you betting on the dark horse? The winner will be announced Feb. 7.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/01/13/writers-guild-of-america-reveals-2008-video-game-writing-nomine/">Big Download</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/13/cue-the-groaning-writers-guild-announces-video-game-nomination/">Cue the groaning: Writers Guild announces video game nominations</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Jan 2009 14:24:00 EST. Target is having a sale where key Wii titles will be discounted. As you can see above, qualifying titles include <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/18/ubisoft-working-on-shaun-white-snowboarding-sequel/"><em>Shaun White Snowboarding</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/17/wii-fanboy-review-animal-crossing-city-folk/"><em>Animal Crossing: City Folk</em></a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/zero-punctuation-force-chokes-the-force-unleashed/"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a>. If you didn't get check any of these titles out, but wanted to, now might be the time to head on over to your local Target store. Also, we're not sure if the sale price on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=madden+09"><em>Madden 09</em></a> applies to just the Xbox 360 version, or all versions of the game, so keep that in mind if you're thinking about throwing the virtual pigskin around.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/26/target-puts-select-titles-on-sale/">Target puts select titles on sale</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Dec 2008 16:35:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/21/npd-chart-track-and-enterbrain-combine-forces-for-global-sales/">Top Global Markets</a> sales data from NPD, Chart-Track and Enterbrain (via <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/madden-tops-q3-global-report-as-west-shows-growth-but-japan-declines/?biz=1">GameDaily</a>) reveals that <em>Madden NFL 09</em> blitzed the global charts to become the best selling game in the third quarter of '08 (that's July to September). Trailing <span style="font-style: italic;">Madden</span> were <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/wii-fit" style="font-style: italic;">Wii Fit</a> and <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/star-wars-the-force-unleashed">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</a></em>. Also, showing that the franchise still has some Pikachu-charged power behind it, <em>Pok&eacute;mon Platinum</em> battled in fourth place with 1.4 million units sold, despite being only available in Japan. <span style="font-style: italic;">Mario Kart Wii</span> rounded out the top five.<br /><br />Certainly the most interesting question about the sales figures is: Where would <span style="font-style: italic;">Wii Fit</span> be if it was actually <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/01/pachter-american-wii-fit-shortages-due-to-weak-dollar/">meeting demand</a>? <span style="font-style: italic;">Madden</span>'s sales were (obviously) US heavy, while <span style="font-style: italic;">Wii Fit</span> had a regional sales spread based on Wii's install base. Find the full sales figures after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/10/madden-tramples-wii-fit-in-q3-global-sales/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Madden tramples Wii Fit in Q3 global sales</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/10/madden-tramples-wii-fit-in-q3-global-sales/">Madden tramples Wii Fit in Q3 global sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Nov 2008 14:00:00 EST. <br />It's been a while since master of misanthropy <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw</a> was featured on these pages, but now he's back, in full sneering mode, with a scathing review of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/24/the-force-unleashed-sells-1-5-million-copies-in-its-first-week/">colossally popular</a> <span style="font-style: italic;">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</span>. Like many of us, Yahtzee hoped the Wii's motion-sensing capabilities would open the door to a whole new galaxy of light saber swish-a-thons that <span style="font-style: italic;">worked</span>, only to be disappointed.<br /><br />His ire is eventually directed towards the "temperamental" Wii Remote, which he describes as "like playing any other console but with all the buttons randomly reassigned every couple of seconds." <span style="font-style: italic;">Ouch</span>. Bound past the jump for the full, <span style="font-weight: bold;">NSFW</span> review.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-4/">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-4/#1085657"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/tmpphpaujv0b-swfu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-4/#1085656"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/tmpphp48ks5v-swfu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-4/#1085655"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/tmpphp2mt0rq-swfu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-4/#1085654"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/tmpphp2cq0hy-swfu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-4/#1085652"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/tmpphpdz4gbf-swfu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/zero-punctuation-force-chokes-the-force-unleashed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Punctuation force chokes The Force Unleashed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/zero-punctuation-force-chokes-the-force-unleashed/">Zero Punctuation force chokes The Force Unleashed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Oct 2008 20:08:00 EST. <em>Star Wars </em>is popular for the multitude of memorable characters yet every decent <em>Star Wars</em> game is based on completely different people within the universe. Sure, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/The-Force-Unleashed/">The Force Unleashed</a></em> main character Starkiller is cool but wouldn't it be fun to go all "Force crazy" as Luke Skywalker or Obi-Wan? LucasArts agrees and has announced plans via news release to add new character skins for the main character which will allow gamers to play as Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan, Ki-Adi-Mundi and Kit Fisto.<br /> <br /> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/LucasArts/">LucasArts</a> also announced plans to release a new mission in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where the Apprentice will learn more about his father and battle his inner demons while navigating through the rubble of a destroyed building.<br /> <br /> No amount of Jedi Mind Tricks were able to extract the pricing or release details from our contacts at LucasArts. The Force is strong with them. For another image of the re-skinned Apprentice do as the Xbox ads say, jump in.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/30/force-unleashed-getting-luke-skywalker-obi-wan-skins-new-missi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Force Unleashed getting Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan skins, new missions</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/30/force-unleashed-getting-luke-skywalker-obi-wan-skins-new-missi/">Force Unleashed getting Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan skins, new missions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Sep 2008 12:30:00 EST. Though it's fun unleashing the Force, wouldn't it be better if you could unleash the Force while pretending you're a good Jedi that has completely lost his mind? The people at LucasArts seem to think so: They'll be releasing new costumes for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/The-Force-Unleashed/">The Force Unleashed</a></em>'s single-player campaign this fall, including Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ki-Adi-Mundi, and Kit Fisto. We've put an "in-game" picture of Fisto after the break, but he looks more like he's been pasted in from the cover of a <em>Star Wars</em> novel.<br /><br />And later this year, look for a new mission in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where the Apprentice will "learn more about his father, and while searching through the rubble of the destroyed building he must confront his inner demons." <br /><br />Neither the price nor specific dates for either of the DLC packs has yet been unlea-- err, revealed. We'll keep you posted.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/30/the-force-unleashed-getting-luke-obi-wan-costumes-new-missions/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Force Unleashed getting Luke, Obi-Wan costumes, new missions</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/30/the-force-unleashed-getting-luke-obi-wan-costumes-new-missions/">The Force Unleashed getting Luke, Obi-Wan costumes, new missions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Sep 2008 11:25:00 EST. It looks like we should've taken <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/book-sales-are-strong-with-the-force-unleashed/">those book sales</a> as an indication of how hungry <em>Star Wars</em> fans were for something new. The latest game to bear the <em>Star Wars</em> name, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-force-unleashed"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a>, has managed to sell a whopping 1.5 million copies in its first 5 days on shelves. The Force is strong with ... uh, yeah. Sorry.<br /><br />Darrell Rodriguez, president of LucasArts, didn't expect such high numbers, apparently. "We're blown away by the response to the game." So, how many of you picked up the game? Did it blow you away or have you found it to be sub-par?<br />

Sure, many <strike>Bothans</strike> developers lost their <strike>lives</strike> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/lucasarts-cuts-hit-force-unleashed-team-after-all/">jobs</a>, but <em>The Force Unleashed</em> has gone on to sell 1.5 million units worldwide in less than a week, making it the fastest-selling <em>Star Wars</em> game of all time. The figures are based on the first five days of sales across all platforms the game is available on. LucasArts states it shipped more than 4.3 million copies of the game globally, but the demand now requires more units to be manufactured.<br /><br />Although <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/16/metareview-the-force-unleashed-360-ps3/">reviews of the game</a> have been fairly mixed, strong initial sales seem to have been foretold by the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/the-force-unleashed-demo-breaks-xblm-download-record/">record-setting demo downloads</a> and, uh, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/the-force-unleashed-tops-the-charts-in-hardcover-fiction/">book sales</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/force-unleashed-sells-1-5-million-units-in-a-week/">Force Unleashed sells 1.5 million units in a week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Sep 2008 19:00:00 EST. Canadian retailer <a href="http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10109361&amp;logon=&amp;langid=EN">FutureShop</a> has bundled a pair of titles, valued at $99, with every purchase of an Arcade or 60GB Xbox 360 console. This week, a pile of games are overwhelming DS shelves, but the <em>real</em> star is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/23/bury-the-shovelware-jackass-the-game/"><em>Jackass: The Game</em></a>. Oh yes, Europe. It's your turn. Don't even try and say that we never gave you anything, because after this week, it's patently untrue.<br />

Don't forget, release dates are constantly subject to change, so check with your local retailer if you need any of the above information confirmed. <div align="left">Harnessing its force-like powers, Lucas Arts is gloating that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/21/lucas-unleashes-force-unleashed-demo-to-xblm/"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed </em>demo</a> that released to the XBLM last month, broke a prestigious Marketplace record. Specifically, Lucas Arts claims that the <em>Force Unleashed </em>demo was downloaded <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/the-force-unleashed-demo-breaks-xblm-download-record/">1 million times</a> off the Marketplace in an eight day period, which would be a day quicker than the previous demo record holder <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/31/too-human-is-too-gold/"><em>Too Human</em></a>. With demo downloads like that, <em>The Force Unleashed </em>should easily eclipse 5 million copies at retail ... HA!</div>

It's not just stormtroopers and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/the-force-unleashed-tops-the-charts-in-hardcover-fiction/">trees</a> that have been splintered by <em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em>, but download records as well. LucasArts announced that the game's Xbox Live demo has force choked download records for the service, surpassing a million downloads in just eight days following its August debut -- a feat one day better than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/31/too-human-goes-gold-900k-downloaded-demo/">the previous record</a> according to the company. <br /><br />Boasting further, LucasArts adds that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/17/the-force-unleashed-demo-coming-thursday-to-xblm-and-psn/">together with the game's PSN demo</a>,<em> The Force Unleashed</em> appetizer has been downloaded more than 2.3 million times worldwide. Most impressive, though we wonder how many people gave up their place in line camped out waiting for the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/03/the-force-unleashed-unleashed-on-september-16/">September 16 release</a> in order to actually try it out.<br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/the-force-unleashed-demo-breaks-xblm-download-record/">The Force Unleashed demo breaks XBLM download record</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Sep 2008 20:30:00 EST. People are kind of stoked for this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-force-unleashed"><em>The Force Unleashed</em></a> thing, enough so that the book for the game has managed to score a spot on the NY Times bestseller list. Written by Sean Williams, the piece of fiction managed to top the hardcover list over the weekend, showing that this whole Star Wars thing is pretty popular. Could this be indicative of strong sales for the game that's planned to release on September 18th in North America? We'd tell you, but the Dark Side the future has clouded.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/the-force-unleashed-tops-the-charts-in-hardcover-fiction/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/book-sales-are-strong-with-the-force-unleashed/">Book sales are strong with The Force Unleashed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Sep 2008 16:25:00 EST. We were a little puzzled when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/LucasArts/">LucasArts</a> introduced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/07/clone-wars-the-ultimate-lightsaber-dueling-experience/"><em>Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels</em></a> before the release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/07/clone-wars-the-ultimate-lightsaber-dueling-experience/"><em>The Force Unleashed</em></a> on Wii, whose major selling point was ... an exclusive lightsaber duel mode. It seemed as if we were being told to disregard that first game that wasn't out yet, because the <em>real</em> thing was on the way. Well, if this rumor is true, get ready to disregard the <em>second</em> game as well.<br /><br />According to EGM's "Quartermann" gossip column, a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/14/lucasarts-mad-about-motionplus/">grumbling</a> LucasArts is returning to the drawing board for <em>another </em>Wii lightsaber game, this time designed for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/31/wii-motionplus-co-dev-demonstrates-the-tech/">MotionPlus</a>. This potential game is rumored to be out sometime next year. If this is real, LucasArts would be smart not to talk about it until they've sold at least one copy of the two existing lightsaber games.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/27/rumor-a-third-wii-lightsaber-game-with-motionplus-this-time/">Rumor: A third Wii lightsaber game, with MotionPlus this time</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Aug 2008 09:55:00 EST. Whatever the reasons, <em>Penny Arcade's</em> <a href="http://penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/8/20/">"A Life of Service"</a> took top honors in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/23/weekly-webcomic-wrapup-asks-what-you-woud-ask-tycho-and-gabe/">webcomic wrapup</a>. <br /><br />Second place was taken by <em>2P Start's </em><a href="http://www.2pstart.com/2008/08/20/level-up/">Level Up!</a>, while Hijinks Ensue's <a href="http://hijinksensue.com/2008/08/20/scared-straight/">Scared Straight</a> claimed a distant third. A special mention goes to Robot Martini's <a href="http://www.robotmartini.com/community/viewpost/737">two great tastes</a>, which came in last place, even though we actually quite enjoyed it. There are few things more fun than watching people try to figure out how to handle a new Wii game. With traditional controllers, unless you were staring directly at peoples' hands, it was hard to see their bibbles and bobbles as they worked out how to make things go, but with the Wii, you can see all the flails and foibles in full and fantastic motion. That's the <em>real</em> secret of Wii's success -- why do you think multiplayer is so popular with Wii owners? -- and even people at the Games Convention aren't immune, as this footage of some dude attempting to play <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/joystiq-tests-star-wars-the-force-unleashed/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</span></a>, unequivocally proves. Luckily, it's a pretty long video, so he's got lots of time to get used to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/02/pvp-video-unleashed-for-new-star-wars-game/">Vadering</a> around.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/25/gc-2008-the-mystery-of-the-force-unleashed/">GC 2008: The mystery of the Force Unleashed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Aug 2008 10:53:00 EST. If the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/16/the-force-unleashed-video-dump-may-blow-your-mind/">recent cavalcade of video previews</a> for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Star%20Wars%3A%20The%20Force%20Unleashed">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</a></em> was enough to whet your appetite for some midichlorian-infused carnage, then we've got great news: LucasArts recently confirmed that they will be following through with their <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/07/27/force-unleashed-demo-unleashes-to-xblm-in-aug/">promise to bring a demo for the title</a> to the XBLM and PSN this month -- a playable preview <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/08/17/force-unleashed-demo-attacks-the-xblm-this-week/">will be downloadable</a> <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/08/16/lucasarts-confirms-sw-force-unleashed-demo-this-week/">via the two services</a> starting Thursday, August 21.<br /><br />The demo takes place during one of the first levels in the game, known as the "TIE Fighter Construction Facility" -- we assume it's the same area featured in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/16/the-force-unleashed-video-dump-may-blow-your-mind/">the recent batch of previews</a> for the title. It will also contain a training mode which will allow the player to get a firm grasp on the Force Grip power. However, we know the question that's on everyone's mind -- will any of those <em>adorable</em> Ewoks be present? <em>We can only hope</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/17/the-force-unleashed-demo-coming-thursday-to-xblm-and-psn/">The Force Unleashed demo coming Thursday to XBLM and PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 17 Aug 2008 20:30:00 EST. More specifically, on the morning of Thursday, August 21st. Also as promised, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/force-unleashed"><em>Force Unleashed</em></a> demo will include a tutorial mode to master the Force Grip power and a complete level of gameplay set in a TIE Fighter Construction Facility where we're guessing a bunch of objects explode real good. If you recall, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/12/star-wars-force-unleashed-producer-confirms-demo/">back in May</a>, we reported that Lucas Arts' was certain about releasing a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-wars"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a> demo. Back then, it was just a matter of knowing <em>when</em> that demo would arrive; however, three months later, we now know exactly when it will come. The pleasure of wielding Sith powers begins this Thursday, August 21.<br /><br />The demo takes place in one of the early levels in the game known as the "TIE Fighter Construction Facility" -- it's a level you've probably seen many times before in trailers. The mission briefing goes: a Jedi General named Rahm Kota is attacking and it's your job to dispose of him, but to do so in secret (read: kill everyone, no witnesses). That sounds promisingly evil and very much Sith-like. Let the dark side coercion begin.<br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/16/lucasarts-confirms-sw-force-unleashed-demo-this-week/">LucasArts confirms SW: Force Unleashed Demo this week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 16 Aug 2008 20:00:00 EST. With <a href="http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/appstore.html">the App Store open for business</a>, games are finally headed to Apple's iPhone, and the unit's multitouch interface, accelerometer, and built-in mic and speaker make it perfect for gaming. <a href="http://us.thqwireless.com/">THQ Wireless</a> is one of the many companies getting ready to try and cash in on the first generation of the App Store -- after making games for a lot of other mobile devices, Director of Global Production Brad Pitser is excited about finally releasing software for the iPhone.<br />
<br />
Joystiq got to play two different games in THQ's demo at E3. <span style="font-style: italic;">De Blob</span> is a handheld adaptation of the Wii game, and uses the accelerometer in the iPhone and iPod touch to do a little light platform puzzling. And <span style="font-style: italic;">Force Unleashed</span> attempts to recreate <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/15/joystiq-hands-on-star-wars-the-force-unleashed-duel-mode-wii/">the upcoming Star Wars action title</a>, by using a touchscreen gesture system to try and make you feel like a Jedi. impressions of both are after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/joystiq-e3-hands-on-de-blob-and-force-unleashed-for-iphone/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq E3 hands-on: De Blob and Force Unleashed for iPhone</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/joystiq-e3-hands-on-de-blob-and-force-unleashed-for-iphone/">Joystiq E3 hands-on: De Blob and Force Unleashed for iPhone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Jul 2008 22:00:00 EST. It actually plugs in to the Wiimote and emits a healthy glow, so the generic white <em>Wii Sports</em> thingys are immediately shamed to oblivion. Of course, the Wii currently lacks any decent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-wars/"><em>Star Wars</em></a> games, but the aesthetic appeal alone might drive some consumers to pick it up in high hopes that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/joystiq-tests-star-wars-the-force-unleashed/"><em>The Force Unleashed</em></a> won't suck diddly-uck.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/zz-wii-lsword.html">Buy, or do not buy</a>. For those who can see these type of "twists" coming a mile away (it is Star Wars after all) the spoilers won't really matter. Plus, we're sure there's even more too come and we can't help but be distracted by the wooden voice acting of the apprentice's love interest.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/11/force-unleashed-launch-trailer-minor-spoilers/">Force Unleashed launch trailer; minor spoilers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Jul 2008 08:30:00 EST.
