Oh no! Not boobies! Ahhhhhh!

Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with a hack that some sad people can CHOOSE to download that can show an animated female "creature's" chest. Killing people is far worse than seeing animated breasts, in my opinion.

Bethesda should not be penalized for an asshole who made a mod to show partial nudity. #17 actually makes a little sense even though that seems kind of weird. #41 Iran is a problem. And whoever was wondering why it was T when you went in oblivion, it isn't too graphic and the bodies can be found all over Cyrodill. Just look at Dark Fissure or Echo Cave. Or any necromancer hideout in fact. They all have stuff like that.

Rating it M for violence sounds fine but even if the naked boobs were actually in the game and just hidden or "forgotten" they don't constitute an M rating. It's just breasts. Everyone has seen them before.

There's something wrong with a world that thinks sex is more offensive than violence.

I guess the thing that irked the ESRB is the fact that the textures were IN THE ORIGINAL media and not hacked or added into the game by the mods.

That said... so next time if someone makes a game with anatomically correct models.. with visible nipplage, but only clothed textures, so if someone came up with a hack to disable textures and color the bare polygons correctly would said game be forced to an M rating too?

this would be funnier if someone moded swords to look like a big floppy penis. then IT MIGHT make sense to slap a new rating up or something. but seriously how is this game trickeling into as many 8year old hands as GTA did? oh thats right NONE. unless they are a cool lil 8 year old & more than likely would just giggle at the sight of some boobage than become a hidious sexual deviant.

Wow. Had they stuck the rating to M in the FIRST place they wouldn't have any problem with it now. Or the fact that the files were probably hidden from the ESRB. AGAIN. Why keep the files in but HIDDEN if they aren't going to be used?

Honestly, I thought Oblivion would be an M game anyways if it's a game that lets you do anything like GTA.

Count me as one of those who thinks that if they can do this, then they should be changing all movies to higher ratings when they're on DVD with bonus scenes that weren't part of the original rating.

Oh great. Old Jacko will find this and get all pissed off and rally Hilary and Ahnold together and we will have "hot orc coffee" and it will be all over the news and people will make a big deal about it and gamers around the world will be insulted once again and in the end Oblivion *may* end up with way lower sales just like GTASA did. It might be the company's fault, but come on! And in response to the dude that was talking about the sims, ol' Jacko already went after EA for that and they told him basically to go screw himself since their sims when the censor is removed are barbie dolls that move.

Well, here's Bethesda's response:

http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2919&Itemid=2

Sounds like the ESRB are just being dumb w/r/t to the reclassification because of violence. And it also sounds like third-party software was required for the nude modification. I don't know that there's actually anything hidden that was "unlocked." I thought it was more like the modders were blocking the coding that called in individual characters' clothing skins or something. But I'm no programmer, so I could be wrong.

Okay guys, I found this interesting tid-bit. Just over a month ago, the founder of Bethesda Softworks, and the creator of the Elder Scrolls series, Christopher Weaver, wrote an interesting editorial in Next-Gen. It was about the mobile phone game Office Massacre. Here's the link.

http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2639&Itemid=35

Here are a couple of interesting comments in the editorial.

"The rank stupidity of the people who brought us the Hot Coffee scandal was bad enough, but at least they are now behaving themselves after getting stung by the press and retailers alike. Now comes another bunch of idiots who do not understand the first thing about social responsibility."

And here is another excerpt.

"If we as an industry fail to look carefully at what we do and to understand the ramifications of our actions enough to govern ourselves, then someone else will do it for us."

Don't you just love irony?

First: from the sounds of it, the gore in this game on its own should warrant an M rating. If a movie had people's guts being ripped out and severed heads and whatnot (I'm just going by the comments on this page) then it would definitely be rated R, and I think similar standards are reasonable.

Second: if I were selling a magazine that was about remote controlled cars, and every issue there was one blank page with hardcore porn printed in invisible ink, then I wouldn't be able to sell this to minors. Even though the reader isn't immediately confronted with the porn, it's still accessible to them if they know what to do.

Third: female nipples are not hardcore porn, and I don't think there's anything wrong with people of any age seeing them. Half of us have (female) breasts of our own, and all of us have seen them.

Fourth: the ESRB should not be able to change their minds about ratings after a game has already launched because they were too negligent to conduct a proper examination of the game. Maybe they can use their insane boob policy to weasel their M rating onto the PC version, but there's no excuse for the Xbox 360 version as far as I can see. The only way they would be justified in this is if they were relying on Bethesda to *supply* them with the goriest content in the game, and Bethesda shipped with something gorier than they claimed would be in the game.

Fifth: the average level of violence and gore found in the games I like to play is much higher than in the movies I like to watch or books I like to read. Is it something about video games in general where I feel they're a necessary source of adrenaline in my life, so I choose them based on that criteria more than I do for other media? I'm really excited to see how non-violent video games grow and mature over the next decade or so.

OMFG! Boobies? I think women should be rated M for feeding us during our infancy. And the war in Iraq? Hell, that should be A-O. Right now little kids are being exposed to innocent civilians being burned to bits! While we're at it, let's rate the entire world! Why not? It helps get politicians elected and gives soccer moms and NASCAR dads something to do with their spare time.

Women can go topless in public places, same as men, in New York, only if it's not used for business purposes.

http://www.dumblaws.com/laws/united-states/new-york/

There are even some public beaches in New York that people go completely nude (not legal), but no one cares.

It seems the latter 1/2 of these comments missed the article their commenting on...
The ESRB is rerating the game based mostly on the violence and gore, this game does warrant a M rating and always did (before mods or whatever). The orc boobies are just a bonus. And I agree about the Sims 2. Either lock a game so tight no modding is possible (suicide in the PC game market) or drop the whole issue where modders are concerned (they will do whatever they want)

Really this country is way to uptight about nudity and kids seeing it, most kids see their parents naked well before the age of 3 and not untill their close to adolecence do most parents start to get modest about it. Kids dont see nipples and cocks unless we tell them they are bad or dirty. Adjust your ways of thinking people. Maybe our future children wont be sexually retarded when they get to teenage years (where this confusion and harm really takes place) if they learn properly now.

Just a clarification.

DVD-Only Director's Cuts / Deleted Scenes of movies ALWAYS show up as "ADDITIONAL CONTENT HAS NOT BEEN RATED" So, yes indeed, it's made clear up-front in all DVDs I've seen with added/Director's Cuts (re-rating movies costs money, btw, hence the "has not been rated" moniker).

So please stop citing Director's Cuts of movies, as it doesn't apply.

"OMFG! Boobies?"

This is the only one I quoted of the 20-or-so comments in the same vein.

Most men find naked breasts sexually arousing. I can dig up studies with Google, but why do that when I can just say... this why a lot of porn emphasizes large-breasted women.

So it's not just a case of "boobies," per-se. It's about content that is -- or can be -- sexually arousing to most of the population.

I'm saying this as one who does not agree with the ESRB change due to an *addition* by a 3rd party. But I am also concerned with the truth.

Then how about all games now include a discalimer stating that installed data that is not part of the main game or is not accessible from within an unmodified game does not warrant rating is not rated by the ESRB

Also I think in most EULA's they state that if you modify the game in anyway that is not authorized by the original publisher/owner you are voiding any responability that said pubisher/owner has for the game.

I would agree with ratings being changed if the developers created subjective in-game content that was unlockable, be it by gameplay or mods. If the developers created a viscous rape scene that you could only see with a mod the game should still be rated higher. If, however, the public creates the same animated scene and sticks it into a game with a mod, that is out of the developers control and shouldn't be accounted for. Very close line but I think that's where I'd draw it.

Meh... without even adjusting my channel dish, i get 14 german 247 hardcore porn channels on my tv. half the pages i surf on the net have adultfriendfinder ads. even the book i'm reading (The Gunslinger, by stephen king) has the main character have sex with some chick, break a guys arms as he storms in to win the chick back, shortly followed by a short description of incest, before the hero does a forced abortion on a priest, and blasts the whole town, including children and unarmed women to smithereens. Did ESBR slap me upside the head when i bought the book? of course not, porn in text form is art, art is good!
Heck, porn is everywhere, sick stuff is everywhere. i can't even watch the news without seeing some closeup shots of iraqi soliders and whatnot get blown up or executed. but, i find myself a nice little game on the computer, and PNG!!!111oneoneshiftyoneeleven, here comes the ESBR marching in my door, shaking the finger my ma forgot to shake when she lectured me on stealing apples. computer porn is bad, and the red colour spreading on that bear is illegal! bah, i had the first nude raider, i found the hot coffee mod for GTA, and i'm not a sexual freak.
Gimme the barbie bestiality mod, let me see ps2 singalong britney sob into a giant rubber cock instead of that microphone, i shall see it all, and still think pokemon, hansel&gretel, and fireman sam is the shocking adult entertainment worthy of banning from the face of the earth.

It doesnt matter because all the teens already bought it. They buy before us working adult.

The harder you try to stop something, the harder it comes around. I say let the tits fly. I for one will not mind, its only fair that the women can enjoy the same liberties as men in public.

Maybe if it was not so taboo, there would be less sexual assaults.. I mean you dont see someone with a coat fetish, its because its not taboo. Take the taboo out of topless and it is no longer a fetish.

Question, are the skin's in these games layered?
I.E. Is there always the topless skin applied and the another of an item of clothing applied over it?

If under normal usage the skin (or the entirety of it anyway) is not to be seen at any point, how is it the company's own fault as some here are claiming?
