All is being unfolded as I and many others predicted: the PS3 is over-priced and under-achieving, and Sony is finding out that it can't treat its customers this way any longer. The downfall of the Playstation is at hand.

Ok, here's my take on the current situation:
PS3's are sitting on shelves due to the price of the console and lack of "I've Gotta Have This" type of game(s). In the near term Sony will continue to struggle moving units but I think they'll eventually have a user base worth developing for albeit not the largest console base.
As for the Wii, you know its a cool little system and that more than anything is making it sell, not to mention the price point. However in the long-term I see the Wii becoming eclipsed by the PS3. Here's why: Well for one, developers of games have moved to a level of game detail and immersion that the Wii, from a hardware standpoint, cannot accomadate. The PS3 and Xbox 360 are well suited for and capable of delivering fantastic virtual worlds which we all can get lost in for a couple of hours.
Another point about the Wii that troubles me about is longevity as top dog or runner-up in this round of the console wars is that I don't see Nintendo getting aggressive with its software. In otherwords I just don't see nintendo breaking out of its traditional type of gaming formula and breaking new ground in software development reaching the "Gears of War" or "Resistance:Fall of Man" crowd of gamers.
Unless Nintendo opens it money vault and buys some developers to add to its first-party efforts I don't see things a chang'in much.
Also Nintendo's hardware design decisions regarding the Wii will ultimately limit the kinds of games we see developed for it and bite them in the ass eventually.
As for Microsofts Xbox 360, it will continue lumbering forward and will be the winner in this round of the console wars. The 360 has a very mature set of development tools available for the developers and individuals with the release of XNA. They have the install base which is attractive to the developers. Finally from a hardware standpoint, it does what it does and does it well. It provides an entertaining experience, reasonable price, and ever-evolving software catalog.

As an aside...Regarding the Ps3 one more time..I personally right before Christmas walked into my local EB Games store and was able to purchase 2 of the 60Gb systems. I wrapped 1 unit up for my 2 boys and planned to sell the other at a small profit, to help justify spending $600.00 for the unit I was keeping. Needless to say I couldn't find anyone interested in buying my PS3 and to be honest on Christmas day the kids didn't even open the PS3 box. Instead they played both the Wii and 360, both of which they also received for Christmas. Ultimately I returned both Ps3's. In my gut I couldn't justify keeping a $600.00 toy with nothing really to do with it.
Just the way I see it...
