whoa, sheppy

I was speaking from personal opinion

I, personally, do not find anything over $300 acceptable. I would pay it, but i wouldn't like it, I do not own a 360, but if i ever considered buying one i would go for the $400 only because the $300 version is gimped to paralyzing levels (buy the $300 360 and you pretty much HAVE to buy peripherals to be able to do basic things, thus making it worse than the Wii out of the box)

This is one of the reasons i want Wii to win(set the trend for reasonably priced consoles), aside from the fact that top-selling Wii would bring more 3rd party titles, which would benefit my Wii-exclusive palate

"The funny thing about the 500 version is that theres no way to add wifi or the card reader to it but its otherwise just as functional as the 600 version. "

Umm, BZZZZT! Wrongo, chapo. You can add a USB based wireless adapter to a 50GB version. It just will not, for the time being, be compatible with the PSP remote play. Likewise, a $10 USB card reader works with any PS3. PS3 is completely open to a vast majority of the devices out there. Hell, I expect in only a couple firmware updates, printer support could be added to the browser.

Regardless...

@Mr. Kahn.

Damn, that did sound rather catty. My point is for the mass market to start adopting a console, $200 is the magic number. The only question at this point is who will have the better library for casual gamers by the time that price range is reached by PS3 and 360. And yes, I do put focus on the word CASUAL gamers because 360 seems to focusing entirely too much on the hardcore gamers. Likewise, Sony is doing the same although they are a little bit better. But only a little bit.

The inventory system for Target is showing that as of today (3/18/07), the 20GB PS3 is discontinued and will no longer be shipped to stores.

20G is not big deal, I have 160G drive in my 20G PS3 - simple to do and Sony even includes information in manuals.

Another thing to keep in mind, since the EE is getting dropped from the PS3, this will, in all likeliness, lead to a new SKU. Since Sony has confirmed this chop is coming stateside, that could be the answer.

@ 51

the Wii winning is like a step backwards. it would be horrible for the industry for price to be more important then presentation or technology. i want my games to look the best they can rather then having them look like what i already have and have to play them with some gimmicky controller.

just my opinion.

@ 57

Wow, games should be about fun & having a good time, not what they look like and thats what the wii represents. If you haven't seen a lot of RPG games on all platforms they have amazing story's and get you wrapped into the game without overall great graphics and also things like warioware & wii-sports, you just turn it on and have a good time, no one player or even have a huge learning curve for people that just come over and don't play it a lot.

It's just there to play and play it does.

Just my opinion to buy games that you have fun with not ones that last a few days and you get another (like most first person shooters). In each console I've had there are few titles that I have actually bought due to this.

57... What would the world be like if the only computer someone could buy was $3000 Alienware boxes? The internet would be a much more desolate place, because very few people have thousands of dollars of disposable income.

I don't want gaming to become a luxery item. I want to play good games on my 20 year old TV. The idea of paying $600 dollars for a video game console is ludicrous to me, and a lot of other people. In the end gaming is a hobby and most people have to budget their income and the difference between $250 and $600 is huge.

Too bad about the 20GB PS3s they were the way better deal. The memory card readers aren't necessary(unless you auctioned your PS2 on ebay to raise money for the PS3), and as we've all seen the 360 does fine with only 20GB.

@anyone who bought a 360 at launch

If you started off with the gold membership of Xbox live then, you'll have paid more for your machine than a 60GB PS3 by the end of the console run(assuming it's a 5-year run as usual). However, that is over time, but $40 more. (So, fanboys PS3 and Xbox alike, I want a good clean fight, no more low blows about price)

@anyone still deciding between the 3

The 360 is easier to pay for because it's $649.99 over time, $49.99 less now a year into the next-gen assuming you ever want to play anything like Halo 3 online.
Think of the price tag of the PS3 as paying for the online capabilities up front.
I honestly can't say much for or against the Wii, I don't like it's selection of games so far, but I didn't like the GC selection either, and bought one for RE4(thank god I did, the PS2 controls sucked balls).

@60

Perhaps, but I pay 50 per month for a unified online environment... Anyone who thinks Home is going to even come close to the unified functionality of Live is just kidding themselves.

Furthermore, anyone who wanted to try out the PS3 could easily see that 20GB model was the better buy. It's a shame really, as I might have taken a shot @ the PS3 for a Blu Ray player at least... and hell if I liked it, might have picked up a few games for it. As it stands now, I am out of the market for a PS3, 599 is entirely too much for even a hardcore gamer to stomach up front.

As for the AV freaks, @ 599, you are getting into the territory of just buying a stand alone Blu Ray player...

I don't blame the retailers for dropping the version however.. as it is obvious that the margin on the 60 GB must be higher...

Devil May Cry 4 is now on the Xbox 360, and it will see a simultaneous release for both the Xbox 360, PC, and Playstation 3!

This means the Xbox 360 has taken away another one of the games usually released for the Playstation brand.

Xbox 360 is the BEST!!!

Xbox Live costs $50 per year, which is only about $4 per month.

I am happy Devil May Cry 4 will be released for the Xbox 360, because now I have no reason to buy a Playstation 3.

The Xbox 360 let's me download all the high-definition movies and high-definition TV shows I want, and so does my Digital Video Recorder. So, there is no need for either a Blu-ray or an HD-DVD.

That article http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/774/774093p1.html is great!

I agree with you, the Xbox 360 is amazing!

Come on you guys are seriously paying $600 for a next gen system and playing it on a CRT?That's the most ridiculous thing I have heard in a long time.The HDTV is the center of your entertainment system.You can buy a 23" for $500.20G is fine to start with you can upgrade when you need to.A lower entry price makes alot of sense for consumers and multi billion dollar corporations,this means Sony is planning on making ALOT of money on downloadable content and they want to make sure everyone has plenty of room for it.
