Has anyone had any luck with the Elite? Does it suffer from the same old red ring crap? I want one ....I have wanted an Xbox 360 for a while now...but if I am gonna go through the red ring hassle I can wait a little longer.

My Elite has been running like a champ. I'm fairly certain any Elite you buy as of now will have the heat-sink issue fixed. I know my fans kick on a lot less than my old 360.

I've had no trouble with my elite, on the other hand my launch console died a year after i got it and my 2nd premium died last week. So far the elite is holding strong and apparently they somehow revised the internal design in the elites so that the red ring of death wouldn't be as prevalent on them.

I think Microsoft made a mistake by not dropping the core to $249 so it could compete more with the Wii. Or atleast bundle a 64MB memory card or a game. Hope fully the prices will drop further...

Once in a while I will do a flame-free thread. Just for shock value.

My tone in that last post had nothing to do with "people catching on" as you put it.

I want Jody and anyone else for that matter to discover HD in all of its glory.

HD is the only vision

On that note, the PS3 does a much better job of upscaling PS2 games than the 360 and its normal Xbox games.

Please tell me you're kidding...

Regardless, the PS3 does seem to upscale DVDs better than my old JVC player did, so I'm using the machine for both DVD and BD discs in addition to gaming.

No, I'm not kidding. Final Fantasy 12, and God of War 1 and 2 looks much, much better than any of my old Xbox games. 1080i + smoothing does wonders over HDMI on the PS3.

Oh god, not another bullet point bandit. I thought people finally got sick of this crap.

The 360 is cheaper if you are looking for games. It also has a larger library and way the hell more quality titles on the bargain used rack. You can argue the PS3 is a better value based on hardware alone, but that isn't why people buy consoles. Otherwise, the Xbox would have taken over the PS2 and outsold it.

MS simply will not drop their price that much until Sony starts outselling them consistently. They lack the killer instinct. I also think MS has minimized price drops to stop the RRoD bleeding. It costs them a lot of money to repair the faulty systems. Once the "Falcon" is at full speed, we could very likely see another price drop before long.

Myth,

That was a nice post, though Mass Effect is out yet this year. Doesn't the 360 Elite upscale just fine as well? I know it doesn't do much over component, but I thought it did over HDMI and VGA (HD-DVD add-on only).

I believe it is going to be delayed. Partly for development issues and partly for marketing placement.

According to a cnet the DVD drive is still sub-standard and the upscaling on the add-on HDDVD drive is very bad.

They even have screenshots with specific examples as to how jaggy the upscaling is on the 360.

Cnet says quite the opposite of the PS3's DVD/BD drive as a movie player.

Yeah I know it might still be a little early to tell. I am just a little hesitant. Damn exclusives...Maybe I will stop by Circuit City when the prices go down a little.

You think they would have missed an oppurtunity to say "Its as cheap as a Wii!" Selling the Core for $30 less could certainly be co-opted by the high adoption rate and the overpriced accessories, but i would've thought it a marketing coup to valuable to pass up

Ah well, with the new warranty basically insuring you to the end of the generation, any of them would be cool to buy at this point,

The point is, if it's going to break, it WILL do it in the three years, and you're taken care of. None of the other consoles have a three year warranty. It's worth it, and you're just a fanboy.

To pass up the amazing titles on the 360 because of the RROD, outside of financial issues is just plain stupid.

@ Sceren,

im taken care of for 3 years. after that, if/when the 360 RRoDs or starts damaging my discs, i gotta pay for the repairs. im not about to spend $350 plus $150 dollars on Xbox Live for only a 3 year guarantee of a working console. also, im not sure how long repairs take (Aex just claimed it took him 5 weeks to get his 360 back) but either way the idea of going through the hassle everytime i get a hardware problem also bothers me. there have been numerous reports, both by users and journalists/media, that the units they recieved after the repairs RRoD'd on them again. some even claimed this happened afew times in a row. a Kotaku blogger claims he's on his 11th 360 or something.

if/when MS releases the 65nm Falcon, and if it runs as smoothly as the PS3, ill get it.

And there's more people who have launch consoles that have had no problem.

Whatever dude, enjoy games like [Insert list of Fall Xbox 360 games here] on your PS3.

Problems are fixed, Falcon is not needed, and the people who had repeat problems also did not receive the current fixes that have been in place since May.

New heat-sinks, mounting the GPU/CPU to the logic bored better, and new clamps holding the heat-sinks down will go a long way to keep your 360 kicking for a long time.

But, none of this will change your opinion, because you are a fanboy. What would fanboys be without their stubbornness?

@ Sceren,

"And there's more people who have launch consoles that have had no problem."

actually, probably not. 33% of 11.6 million units is 3.83 million defective units. MS only managed to ship 1.5 million units by the end of 2005. so there are probably more units that have RRoD'd out there than still-working launch units.

"Problems are fixed, Falcon is not needed, and the people who had repeat problems also did not receive the current fixes that have been in place since May."

really? tell that to Brian Crecente. on July 22nd 2007 his 9th Xbox 360 died on him. check: http://kotaku.com/gaming/xbox-360/another-one-bites-the-dust-281244.php

"New heat-sinks, mounting the GPU/CPU to the logic bored better, and new clamps holding the heat-sinks down will go a long way to keep your 360 kicking for a long time."

even if the above is true, where is the fix for disc damaging, even when the console is stationary? and im a bit skeptical of the hardware fixes you're mentioning because people are still reporting multiple RRoD problems in July 2007. the only thing i heard about hardware fixes is improved heat sinks being put in *some* repaired 360s in certain regions, and ofcourse Peter Moore claiming they've revised the hardware.

the 3 year warranty thing is nothing to feel proud about. this is the first time a home console has extended its warranty to 3 years. hmm, i wonder why. perhaps slowing sales and/or fear of class action lawsuits? and did u know the 3 year warranty only covers RRoD units? meaning if your 360 damages your discs or if you experience any other hardware problems aside from the RRoD, you're gonna get charged even within the 3 years.

the first few versions of PSX and PS2 had hardware problems with their cd/dvd drives. that was it. 360 has taken hardware malfunction to the next level.

"But, none of this will change your opinion, because you are a fanboy. What would fanboys be without their stubbornness?"

yeah im a PS3 fanboy, i dont see anything wrong with that. i also like everything about the 360, minus the hardware defects and the over-priced wifi dongle.
