Man, Xbots out there couldn't come up with a better rumor than this?

A year into production, the PS3's defective rate is hovering around 0.5%. That's astounding for a new high-end piece of hardware.

And how ON EARTH would the new 40gig model be so defective? They removed some hardware and all reports say the system runs quieter and cooler than the 20, 60 and 80gigs (not that any of the older systems are loud OR warm).

Garbage.

The media outlet who ran this story clearly isn't too trustworthy. They cleansed their site of all traces of the story afterwards, which shows how much faith they have in their reporting.

Gotta admit that the 60G is the best system and i have no problem paying more for it and even upgrading the hd when bigger drives come out. Its like a car, look how many cars you can buy around the same price point but if you something upgraded in it, you pay more for it. Its not like you have to upgrade because something is broken, its a choice. You can take it a step further and buy a more expensive car if you can afford it and there's nothing wrong with enjoying your money if you can afford to. You get what you pay for! 40G is great for people who just want a Blu player or just want PS3 games.

NO A GAME SYSTEM IS NOTHING LIKE A FUCKING CAR!

Sorry but I'm tired of all the analogies between consoles and random crap. A console is like a console where you play games, and, if you're a PS2, Xbox, Xbox360 or PS3, where you can watch movies.

That's pretty ignorant unless you've never built your own pc which is the direction consoles have been moving to but thanks for coming out.

Jesus, analogies make you needlessly angry...

You're reacting like a baby that has had its candy ripped away.
You're like a guy that just caught his wife banging his father.
You're like a city cab driver with road rage issues that just got cut off.
You're like a wife beater talking to a marriage counselor.
You're like an athiest in church.
You're like one of Michael Vick's dogs.

But most of all, I would liken you to someone that spent $600 on a gaming machine that doesn't actually have any games.

People are doing everything they can to keep Sony down. LOL
In the end, we all will know the truth!

40% failure rate is ludicrous. The 40GB PS3 haven't even been out that long.
Someone out there is making sure Sony always get bad press no matter what. LOL
This is so funny to me!

And now Xbox 360 is suppose to have a life span of more then 5 years. LOL The damn thing cant even last more then a year without dying. Now they want to go for the long term cash. LMFAO!!! "M$ are total jokesters I tell ya!"

It doesn't surprise me that the ps/3 is rumored to have problems, but i still think the 360 has the most serious of problems out of all the nextgen consoles.

The 40% failure rate is most definitely uninformed buyers returning it when they discover it doesn't play PS1/2 games. This is FUD.

With the original article gone, it's foolish to give the 40% any credence. Not only could it be because of something other than hardware problems, it could just plain be completely false.

I would note that the current version of Pro Evo soccer for PS3 is poop. This could drive some returns in Europe too.

Nice try though, to whatever rumour-monger started this BS today :)

I recall seeing a similiar story (on digg I believe) about people returning their systems after finding they weren't backwards compatible with PS2 games. So a 40% failure rate? I smell B.S. Incidently, my 40GB PS3 runs great, and when it's not playing games it's Folding.

Wow. Well if it's true then I guess that's another reason not to get a ps3. I already have one console that can die on me at any moment, don't need another one.

Also, Fernando. You need to cool the fuck out with the trolling. If no one's saying anything, there's no reason to bash the ps3 for no reason. The reason why I'm saying is that you have your moments sometimes when you can be logical.

The alleged problem isn't BC.

True, the average consumer doesn't know about it necessarily, but I have been in game stores multiple times when people are buying PS3's and the employees ALWAYS point out the lack of that feature. A few I've seen opt then for the 60GB, but the rest didn't care.

Most consumers don't know but they find out when they go to buy one.

Plus, the problem is regional.

the only problem this system has is that it has no games. I really wanted to try that "real time weapon chaniging". I also heard that it can bend space and time and it also can make Biblical prophecies come true.

Amazingly the early adopters of PS3 might actually benefit like the early PS1 owners (Easy Import Playing)....

No gimped PS2 BC, Rock Solid Hardware (though this may only be because PS3s aren't getting a massive amount of playtime).

After the multiple PS1 amd PS2 replacements....consider me skeptical of PS3 being error-proof.....My bet is that slot loader starts breaking right after the 2 yr mark.

NO GAMES!?!?!?

I get so tired of this comment, so let's put facts in place of stupid comments.

The majority of good B or AAA titles are multiplatfor and available on BOTH PS3 and 360, maybe a month later on the PS3 but available still: All the major sports titles, COD4, Assasins Creed, so on and so on for a huge list.

Exclusives, the PS3 has out right now Resistance, NG Sigma, Ratchet and Clank, Heavenly Sword (which I absolutely loved), Motorstorm, Folklore, and within the next week orso Drake's Fortune and Haze (really an exclusive?).

People like angryguy up there seem to only compare Exclusives and forget the slew of multiplatform games. How many games do you need at one time!?

Too bad you had to pay extra $ to play the same games. And I would take MS/nintendo's exclusives over Sony's any day.

LOL! Don't be sorry angryguy.

I'm a gamer and I don't mind at all having access to a strong list of great exclusive titles now and in the future and ability to choose which version to pick up multiplatform titles too, oh and the BD movies I get to enjoy look outstanding and the upscaling of my huge library of PS2 games is a huuuuuge selling point for me.

I enjoy the hell out of my 360, Wii, DS, and PSP too but the PS3 had a lot to ooffer for me.

Still, I can respect another person's choice simply not to buy the exact same pleasantries that I do, just so long as they keep their reasons factual or "in their opinion".

As a gamer that was burned out by Sony's horrid history of game consoles (3 PS1s and 5 PS2s, all died on me), I can safely say I'm impressed by how excellent the PS3's quality turned out to be. They fixed that gripe and shave off the $200 I was asking for and now am a PS3 owner. This sure beats the 3 Xbox 360s I've had die on me since launch.

the Xbox had a high fail rate (above 5%) but manageable the PS2 skirted above 5% with 2 or 3 instances of bad lens but it was not as stable as MS's higher than normal fail rate, the GC also had issues that was as random as what the PS2 had, the 360 is a POS in terms of fail rate there is no reason to ahve a higher than 8% fail rate on anythign and MS takign 2+ years to fix it is a travesty.

the PS3 has no above avrage fail rate issues yet, I would be surprised if it dose but then again they have hacked the thing to death since launch to save money....I would not be surprised if some of the revisions were bad...

Are these the same people who complain that PC software doesn't work with their Mac?

Perhaps more people would've taken this seriously if the claimed fail rate had been lower. I guess hindsight is 40/40.

I HAVE TO CALL BULLSHIT ON ALL THE FANBOYS SCREAMING BACK AND FORTH.

Every system ever made has a so-called "acceptable failure rate" according to the PR and Marketing departments of it's respective company, and if you'd stop being such system-whores you'd realize that.

The X-Box had some serious issues, and along with the PS2, cost Microsoft and Sony more money in tech support than any FOUR systems before them.

I personally punted my NES, baked my GameGear(literally, not figuratively), BEAT MY SNES WITH A SLEDGEHAMMER, and took a power drill to my PS1 and all four systems still work TO THIS DAY. That my PS1 still works is the only surprise about a Sony system I've ever had.

The only reason I have never and will never own a Microsoft "console" is because, from inception to sale, they recieve nothing but glowing reports but the consumer reviews show huge problems, overheating issues, shorts, failures and general tribulations in "regular use".

So Sony's newest consumer-fuck product is experiencing a never-before-seen rate of failure, and the reports were smashed.

It's not like Sony's never lied before.
Remember when they invented 3-D gaming? Remember when they invented motion-sensing controllers? DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN SONY INNOVATED THE RPG GENRE? Guess what, folks, Sony's lying to the consumer again and will continue to do so no matter how loudly you cry.
Microsoft is lying to the consumer, and will continue to do so because it makes them money. Even Nintendo's lied to us, and don't think for an instand I'm going to forget those moments of blackmail material.

My PS3 is DEAD ! Used only a dozen times, performed the latest update 2.10 and it no longer boots up. We lost the receipt and SONY says too bad! We need it to fix it! GAMESTOP stores and the corp customer service can't re-print one. Shame on them! Sony knows that this model has only been out for a couple on months and still require proof of purchase?
Heck, MS fixed my 360 with no proof and did it 2 years and 11 months after I bought it..

PS3 failures are showing up all over... MY PS3 is dead and I am mad that spent $400 for junk!!!!
