How does this not get localized for North America? ...Only if Square Enix wants to make me cry. Which, given Crisis Core, maybe they do.

"the demand is great enough."

Wasn't the exact same thing said about a FF7 remake?

Umm...yeah, "not confirmed." I'm sure that NP devoted a cover and 10 pages to a game that isn't going to come out in the USA. Oh, not to mention a release of 7/08 in their Game Watch Forecast.

It's coming.

Games evolve and change, getting prettier and more in-depth, with (usually) better crafted stories and the like. After a while, it can be hard to go back and play some of the older titles. They're still good games, we're just used to a different standard.

Remakes allow both those who played the original and those who have only heard about it give the game a fair shot in a new industry.

Case in point: Final Fantasy VII. Have you tried to play it recently? The graphics are ass. Cloud has like 3 polygons outside of battle, and maybe 6 in battle. However, most people can agree that FFVII was (and still is) a good game. The only problem is that we, as gamers, are now used to games like Lost Odyssey, FFXII, etc. -- games that look and feel much more polished. A remake of FFVII would allow it to appeal to both people wanting to play it again and people who never got to play it in the first place.

Not to mention that FF7's localization is almost as bad as FF4's original localization.

I thought I was just stupid because I didn't understand half of what was going on. Turns out, it was Engrish all along.

I'm able to just barely follow what's going on in the game after 3 years of Japanese in college

"It would appear that the men are beginning to embrace dissident opinions of you, my lord"

boy that was a fun phrase to puzzle out

i loved this final fantasy way more than any other one... yes even 6 and 7..

im excited for the remakes because honestly i find new rpg's way too complicated for me...i like the old school ones that were simpler and more fun to play.

i tried playing XII and i was just amazed about how non-final fantasy it felt to me. it looked like a great game but i quit really early on to pick up final fantasy VI advance...remakes are amazing!

FFIV for DS all the way!

Demand? Since when has the big N ever cared about demand?

Never, but this has nothing to do with the Big N.

(That said, it does piss me off that they didn't translate Mother 3. I was *really* looking forward to it, more so than this remake of FFIV or the remake of DQIV, which are both amazing games.)

To be honest, the ONLY ff to stand the test of time is final fantasy 6.
But yet, squareenix milks the crap out of anything they make. They've already rerereleased this stuff. Please stop. Your fans have a childhood nostalgia complex, you can stop exploiting them now.
I can say the same for nintendo, but at least they leave their rereleases for 5 dollar downloads...not ten times that. Also, you can give nintendo some respect for their hardware creativity this generation. Nothing speaks "Still relying on ps1 success" like square...and they surely have the talent in their studios to step it up, but why put the effort to use those two feet that god gave them when they're making so much money by not moving at all. The answer...integrity, self-respect, the want/need to create art, etc. That's all well and good when money doesn't trump all of those things.

The only FF to stand the test of time? I dunno, Final Fantasy IX is still to this day a really solid title.

I think once you get to FF8, "test of time" becomes invalid since the games are pretty much still in our time. FFVII is starting to show its age pretty bad though, and all the sequels and prequels and side-stories aren't helping the original look any better.

FFVII doesn't show it's age well because the technology was constantly changing mid development and the art style reflected that. Hell, just look at FFVIII for contrast which has a much more consistant art style and stands the test. FFVII was a first in many regards, and for that it's severely handicapped.

FFVI I'd like to see redone in 3D, but not on DS. I don't care where it ends up, just make sure it's a system that has the muscle to make it glorious and considering Crisis Core, that could even mean PS2, PSP, or Wii.

By the way, people, if you're going to bitch about when SquareEnix only takes the safe bets, I sure as fuck better see Erghiez, Einhander, Brave Fencer Musashiden, Valkerye Profile 2, Vagrant Story, and Front Mission in your collection. Because if you bitch about their safe bets but don't support their risks (like almost everybody), you has jack to say on the matter. And in that respect, where is my Drag On Dragoon 3?

Yes, Square, I would buy Chrono Trigger again if you remade it again for DS. Or PSP. Or Wii. Or PS2.... Because that's all I have currently.

As long as it doesn't have the horrible loading times of the PS1 version, I'll be happy.

You can try the SNES version, the original, with no load times. It is the best version.

this would be an awesome addition n all but id much much rather have a remake of chrono trigger in a heart beat, or secret of mana since thats got some of the most entertaining multiplayer ever done on a 16-bit system.
