Our Xbox-toting brethren at 360 Fanboy recently came across a list of Xbox Live Arcade titles which may be up for expungement in Microsoft's spring cleaning of their online store. The list (available after the break) includes all titles that fulfill the first and second criteria of Microsoft's new standards -- that is, they've been available for six months, and currently hold a 65 percent or lower average score on Metacritic. A steady conversion rate (the number of people who purchase the complete title after downloading the demo, a figure only Microsoft has access to) is the only thing standing between these games and a date with the delete button -- so if you've been holding out on downloading Shrek-N-Roll, you may want to pick it up in an expedient manner.

Cant be right...many of these games arent out 6 months. TiQal for example isnt out for more than 2 or 3...

I'm sure that the list of actually delisted games is going to be much smaller. Texas Hold'em will be on there forever cause everyone downloaded when it was free a year and a half ago. And considering how much DLC is coming out for Marathon, there is obviously enough interest there for it to stay. And I doubt Microsoft is going to take out 75% of its camera enabled games (Spyglass and the Hardwoods).
I think the actual list will only consist of old Namco games (which are really easy achievements, i love New Rally X) and true failures like Trace NYC and Speedball. For those remaining titles, I think a 50% off sale is in order.
BTW: Has Space Giraffe been out for six months? Cause I'm sure that game will get booted ASAP. Worst game on the XBLA

The main problem is they just need more sorting or a better search feature, then it won't matter that the list is so large.

That conversion rate statistic has to be messed up with the advent of auto-download. I've downloaded (passively) every XBLA game for the past year or something, but have not even tried playing them, and I'm sure there are more like me. Doesn't seem like a good policy, as I have nothing against the games, just haven't had a chance to try any of them.

Well, Wing Commander Arena certainly won't be missed.

I would like to shed some light on the errors here.
1. They're not being deleted. Just not listed on the download list.
2. If you downloaded them before, you can download them again.
3. If someone has the game they can recommend it to a new xbox user and they can download it.
4. So few games meet all 3 criteria that only the really bad games or rarely bought games will get delisted.

DLC is supposed to have a so called long shelf life and maybe only be pulled for licensing or compatibility issues. This is a bad policy and shows Microsoft has failed to understand DLC.
Perhaps we can believe M$ when they say they need Hard Drive space after all they justify 20GB value is at a $100. Apparently even for a company with market capital exceeding $260 Billion can't afford to hosting.
Hey M$ why don't you ask Google for help and learn how the Pro's do it! :P

This is the biggest mistake MS has ever made. To have the likes of Contra and Pacman---I don't care if you played them everywhere, it's F;ING PACMAN FOR GOD SAKES!!! But yeah, to have them delisted is a crime.
Some people said lower the MS points on these titles, I couldn't have said it better. I have Contra already, and I'll be downloading Pacman, Xevious, and Tetris Splash this week so I'll have them before they are delisted.

Here's an idea: Bundle all the games they're about to delist onto a retail DVD and sell it for $60. Repeat at regular intervals when the next wave of delists comes along (six or twelve months?). Offer subscriptions of these XBLA volumes at slightly reduced rates.

I think MS wants us to think, "oh, sh1t- if I don't buy Super Contra now I risk never being able to in the future!". Marketing ploy to get us to buy a bunch of stuff at full price right now. They could boosting sales immediately for the cost of spreading a rumor.

How dare you bastards take down Marathon Durandal. It's one of the best games on XBLA, and I've enjoyed every moment of it. It's such a glorious piece of Bungie history, and it's a solid fps with great multiplayer value. I can't remember how many you can fit in, but playing four player mutliplayer was superb.

Well I just grabbed Texas Hold 'Em and TiQal since I enjoyed the demos but was waiting for price drops. TiQal was relaxing which I thought was nice but the reviewers said that it was too easy and not hectic enough? Texas Hold 'Em will be a good online game. I'm getting these with this in mind as well:http://ebm.email.xbox.com/c/tag/hBINv9HAlyGDmB7RCOBAr92IBUf/doc.html

Why don't they just thrown them in the discount bin which would probably increase sales a little or at least just give them away for free, seriously how much does it actually cost MS to keep them up?

Texas Hold 'Em is a fantastic game if you like poker, but the biggest thing for me is I got it in the first 2 weeks when it was free.
Isn't Hold Em like 800 or 1200 points? Lower that to 400 and see how many people download it, I know a lot of people that would

I agree with the rest of you; they really need to try a price cut before delisting all these games. The only XBLA title I've ever felt was worth the money was RezHD.

What a weird move. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater. Solve this dilemma differently, MS. There are some good $5 options there... Reorganize and have an 'Attic' section for 'old forgotten/old forgettables' like these. You're fucking up the whole 'long tail' concept (http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/12.10/tail.html), and it's not like it's for lack of server space.

I have only demoed one of those: Word Puzzle, and dont own any. Although I heard of many.
But I agree with the sentiment that they should be stashed in a bargain bin somewhere and not appear in the categories where you search recent titles.
That way new stuff one be lost in a sea of ancient crap and if one want to go swim in said sea for some reason, one can.
Although, is it even worth the extra bucks to put in the extra digital room with extra digital shelves? As I said, I for one, only played a demo of one of those.

Have to agree, this is really stupid of MS. Maybe a lot of these games do suck, but still, removing games is just dumb. Looking at the list there's a few that I want that I didn't even know about, but now if I don't buy them immediately I won't ever have a chance to play them or buy them? Yeah, that's really smart, MS, good thinking.
Why don't they at least drop the price on some of them and see if that makes any difference? Things that I want that cost 400 points, I never even thinking about it. 800 points though, yeah, I think about it before buying. Too many games are 800 points.

WTF is with all these dumbass comments?
Joystiq readers don't read?
Joystiq readers don't comprehend?
Joystiq readers don't think?
Or is it only the fools rushing in to show their ignorance?
Or does Joystiq really like posting incomplete information just to get the above commenters to rush in?
It would have been nice to know that delisted titles can be activated if you still have the trial. It would have been nice to know that someone can recommend a delisted game to you. It would be awesome if Joystiq went through these comments and shared our questions with Microsoft and get more details. Details like when this is going to start or why there hasn't been more price cuts.
I'm actually glad that they're delisting some titles, as it's just a waste of time wading through the seas of crap. They really should put in filters and more sorting methods in the interface.
For all those that are super worried about not having access to the sea of crap anymore (yes, you, who only get hot-and-bothered about something that you normally wouldn't have given a second look until it's about to be taken away from you):
I'm sure even if MSFT doesn't do anything, the community will band together to keep these games available to you. Off the top of my head, a simple hack would be to publicize an account that has access to the delisted titles and use it as a crap-recommendation service.
Oh, and fire Griffin McElroy -- Tiqal is only three months old.
