Portfolio.com just published a short excerpt of its interview with EA boss John Riccitiello who tells the site that it's "got two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development" including "the one that people are dying for us to talk to them about -- in partnership with Lucas, coming out of BioWare." One doesn't need to connect too many dots to arrive at the conclusion that BioWare is returning to the Star Wars universe with a Knights of the Old Republic MMO.
Of course, this product has been rumored for ... well, for a long time. Separately confirming a BioWare / LucasArts collaboration and a BioWare MMO project lead to certain obvious conclusions and countless other rumors and leaks seemed to do everything but confirm (and some denied) the project's existence. Though it would appear Riccitiello wasn't quite ready to put a name on that project – it's Portfolio.com connecting those dots – by referencing that this is the game that "people are dying for us to talk to them about" he clearly seems to be pointing to KOTOR.
[Update: We've just spoken with N. Evan Van Zelfden, the writer of the report, who told us that when asked specifically if this game was "KOTOR Online", Riccitiello responded unequivocally, "Yes." So, there you have it – sounds like we can take off our skeptical glasses.]

Why is there this assumption that it will be a KOTOR MMO rather than just a Star Wars MMO?

It will be on Wii and you will have to exchange your 16 digit friend code AND another 18 digit KOTOR code withe EVERYONE playing AT ALL TIMES. Offline you will be able to export your Jedi to the Mii plaza, where he/she can stand and occasionally blink.

COMPLETELY AGREE. Fuck... I am so pissed now. Fucking MMOs are shit. I want to be a loner sitting at home playing KOTOR 3 all by myself. Not a loner sitting at home playing a KOTOR MMO with a bunch of other losers online.
I'm so mad.

MMO's are awesome. Star Wars Galaxies was sweet till they came out with the NGE....since then they have made leaps and bounds with that game. Too bad the KOTOR MMO(It just means KOTOR era....not exactly a 3rd game but an MMO) will almost certainly kill SWG(Star Wars Galxies). So much such in that game is so inovative and just awesome that it will be sad to see it go. If the KOTOR era MMO does anything they should get the rights to copy the SWG crafting system.....cause it's the best out of any game anywhere!!!!!!!

I have nothing against MMO's, except the subscription fee. There's no way I'm paying that much to play a game each month, not when other companies can offer the same thing for free.
Lower the price, or change the method entirely, then I'll be interested. Just how many MMO's can the market sustain?

Agreed. That's why I live Guild Wars. Sure it might not be an MMO in the same way as WoW or EQ or LoTR, but its close enough and I don't feel guilty if I can't find time to play it for a month or two.

No kidding. If this means no part 3, which I imagine it does, I consider this a big loss. The KOTOR story line was amazing and an MMO probably can't do it justice.

I am not sure why I am saying this since I have a sweet gaming rig, but will this come to 360?
Regardless, a Star Wars MMO without SOE, they had me at "No SOE"!

EA's still involved. They have a tendency to screw things up too.

Just return SWG to pre-CU and consider that your new MMO, and watch your subscriber numbers quadruple, LucasArts/SOE!!!!

Hang on guys/girls, lets not freak out over this. It is still not clear whether earlier reports of the MMO being "The Old Republic" are true or not, meaning the MMO may not be KOTOR 3, rather just a KOTOR MMO stand-alone separate from the original story. I know that is what most of us hope is true, because we want KOTOR 3 to be a single player experience that continues the story. Mr. Riccitiello just said "yes" and didn't elaborate, so hold your horses on accusations.

It is true. While I want it to be an MMO with the Mechanics of the last game(and it's letdown sequel), there's still much unclear...
