After playing Lost Coast Ep1+2 I would say it'll be worth the wait.

Valve don't seem to be learning.

I really thought by now they'd have figured out the problem with their "episodic content". (that it isn't episodic). If people like telltale can grasp it, i don't know why its so hard for valve.

I'll buy it eventually of course, and the orange box was great value (kind of), but i don't get why they can't be pumping out these episodes every 4-6 months.

Sounds like they are gonna boost the engine.. which will suck, cos i won't be able to play it on my current PC and won't be able to finish the story.

It'd make more sense to stabilise the engine, and produce Eps 1-3 on th same engine.. then its not so slow, and not so much new content needs to be made.
Then make a major boost, and release eps 4-6 on a new engine, in the space of a year or two.

I'd much rather they staggered their releases (an sold them at individually lower prices). Jan Ep1. Mar TF2. May Portal. July TF2 maps. Sept Ep1 maps. Nov Ep2. Etc..

I agree with you that it defeats the purpose of episodic gaming if you wait 2 years in between games.

But on the engine boosing, if Episode 2 was any indication, Source games are always really good for scaling. So I don't see how you won't be able to play episode 3 if you could play the first 2. Sure it may not be as pretty as it could be, but you should be able to play it. (This is of course assuming you could play the first 2 decently)

Waiting for Episode 3 is almost as painful as waiting for the final episodes of BSG to air.

Half-Life 1 like many other games had expansions that are usually released a year or more after the original game or the previous one.

Episodic content was supposed to be released every 6 months. Why did they say that they are making episodes when they are just making expansions like before.

No problem with that, just why get people's hopes up and then drag it out for so long.

Second thing, I hope we don't have to wait 5 years after the release of EP3 for Half-Life 3.

As much as I think the episodes are great games... I would definitely have preferred HL3 in place of them. I understand why they didn't do that (especially after reading this interview), but a true sequel would have been far more satisfying.

Personally I'm glad Valve takes the time to get it right. If they could release a product of the quality they're aiming for "every 6 months" then they would, unless you think they like longer development times because they like less profits. I'll take waiting 18 months for a 4 hour experience over waiting 6 months for a lower quality game any day. It's Half-Life. Would you want a BAD Half-Life game? It would ruin the whole experience. I'll gladly wait 5 years for a sequel too, if it's as good as HL2 was at the time. Bravo to Valve for staying independent and not having to meet a deadline. If I want to buy a rushed product I'll buy a movie tie-in.

I don't think most people have a problem with them taking their time and releasing a quality product, but don't call them "episodes" either. They are taking far too long to be wearing that label. What they're releasing are your typical expansions.

If it comes with a sequel to/tie in with Portal, then it's fine with me...

I really do like half-life2 it actually connects you to the characters in the game, like at the end of HL2:E2, I knew something was going to happen at the end but after the end of the last battle I had completely forgot out about that feeling and I really thought for once it was going to be a quite and calm ending and when Alex's father was killed they had caught me completely off guard, now I didn't throw a fit but I felt bad that he died, very few games make a the player feel for one of the important characters
I've been waiting for them to make a HL2:E3 and i know they will, Keep up the good work Valve
Great Job
