New games this week: Gears of Resistance 2 edition

Last week, our hearts were being pulled in two completely different directions and we just couldn't pick a game to feature. This week ... well, we're just not going to get in the middle of it. If you own a 360, you think Gears of War 2 is the most exciting. If you own a PS3, you think it's Resistance 2. If you own both ... well then, you think it's going to be tough paying rent this month.

There's also Quantum of Solace, Legendary, EndWar ... the list goes on. Which will you be picking up?

I couldn't tell you one thing about the show or the naruto universe, but I played the last game on 360 and I loved it and I loved the fighting in the demo for the new ps3 game, so if it's also somewhat open world like the last game then I'll probably get that too.

I hope Resistance 2 is less generic-as-shit than the last one. It's getting good reviews, so I'm definitely going to try it, but I'll be saving my money for midnight, Thursday.

Fallout 3 is taking up my time now, but I'm getting Gears anyway. And unless I get enticed by a good sale between now and the holidays, the only other game I'm getting is Left 4 Dead. I think that will do it for me for a while, plus I probably should work on the unfinished pile.

Gears 2 LE (preordered) and Resistance 2 will go well with my unopened $36 copy of Far Cry 2 (pc) from GoGamer that will arrive today...

and those three will fit nicely in the stack of stuff I'm playing currently which includes LBP, Fable 2, and of course Rock Band.

Thank god gas prices have went down lately because otherwise I'd be donating platelets.

Well, we can all agree, PS3 and 360 owners have a ton of great games to play this fall. LBP, R2, GOW 2, Fable 2, Dead Space, Fallout 3, ect. and the Wii sucks as usual.

It's not as poor of a quarter as people keep advertising. No blockbusters for the quarter, which is piss-poor planning on Nintendo's part, but a study diet of good titles that keep sliding under the radar. Clash of the Ninja Revolution 2, Mushroom Men, Tales of Symphonia 2, Rygar: Battle of Argus

My brother will be renting GOW2 when its comes out for my 360 as he's loved the original he's played on his PC. Then I'll most likely sell it and get a gaming PC myself. I guess that'll tide him over until it hopefully comes to PC next year, even though Cliffy B said it'd never come to PC, I'm sure MS would love to have it in their Games for Windows LIVE label. : )

Gears 2 is going to crush Resistance 2. I'm a PS3/Wii fan and hate Microsoft, but even I can see that!

Sony needs to stop wasting resources on wannabe shooters aimed at 360 owners. Anyone who is a serious fan of the genre is going to buy a 360. Sony is trying so hard to win that battle, they're losing the war! If Sony would just bow out of the shooter genre and re-deploy their 1st and 2nd party developers to other genres, they could easily win over fans of nearly every other genre away from Microsoft, and win in overall numbers.

P.S. I'll be getting Valkyria Chronicles.

Evan, what if PS3 owners just want more FPSs for their console? Resistance came out around the same time as Gears of War in late 2006 so its not really a rip-off.

I think the main factor that has driven some 360 owners to PS3 has been their 360 breaking down, ironically vice versa happened to me.

One of the stranger developments of this generation was how Sony completely lost sight of how to repeat the success of the PS2

Audience diversity (a term i hesitate to use, as i don't want to draw parallels with what Nintendo is doing) is important, and Sony seems to have shifted focus dramatically to fight Microsoft on Microsoft's terms, which is a bad idea for any company trying to beat MS

On a serious note:

Is Quantum of Solace going to be any good?

The last dozen games were made by EA, and they were all adequate, but this one's being made by Activision/Treyarch and is being put on 6 systems.

It seems like it'll be a rip from an older 007 game that looks playable on the DS, and is just slapped onto the PC, PS2, PS3, Wii, and 360.

I'm wondering if Activision is just going to sell it on everything, rake in all the cash, and leave the 007 franchise in a corner, curled up like a helpless victim.

I've heard good things, which tends to be normal for previews

But it is promising

There'd have to be awesome reviews for me to actually drop ANOTHER $60 in addition to the hundreds I'm already spending.

I need to get previous Bond games out of my head to not be prejudgemental (save GoldenEye of course).

Whatever. Go pay $60, sucker. I'll be enjoying my awesome $20 title protecting the President and other super important things. Possibly tracking down counterfeit currency, too.

I just notice this game is coming out on 360 and the PS2. No PS3. Weird. I checked out the trailer. Doesn't look bad. How it plays is yet to be determined. I'd have to imagine there's a reason no one is talking about this game though.

Who releases an FPS alongside Gears and Resistance expecting to sell well unless it is there to fall upon an unsuspecting public? Seems more like a safe rental than "I'm gonna run out and buy it."

And I've not seen it anywhere for $20. $40, yes.

BTW. I was totally joking. I don't have time for Far Cry 2, Fable 2, Fallout 3 from the past two weeks, let alone Resistance 2 and Gears 2. haha

The 360 release does seem funny, though. Maybe Justin will nega-review it for us.

Why the HELL can't these games be spaced out a little?! I'm still trying to finish like 5 games right now, and three of them are like a year old!!!

I do not appreciate the assumption that my owning a PS3 makes me excited for Resistance 2! Actually I'm cool with it, but I really only have interest in GoW2. Oh well. Stupid money shortages.

Buying Gears, asked for Resistance for Christmas. And its always the Limited/Collector's Editions that get me. I am a sucker for them.

Although, I only am getting the Collector's Edition of Fallout 3, not the crazy Supreme Deluxe one with the clock.

I'm getting GoW2 Friday after work but after reading up on the story behind Resistance, I must say I'm intrigued. Looks like this week will be good to all HD-capable console owners.
