Hope there will be a patch with the whole muliyplayer match option. I agree with whole you can't talk to the person you played with before and have the chance to talk to them after. I hate the whole you have to get out and start a whole new match. It's so stupid and I hate having to sit there and go through all of that painful waiting.

You shouldn't have to work hard to find reviewers complaining about the matchmaking. Why wasn't this included?

I have to admit I am a bit disapointed. The game feels like it's trying to hold my hand to much. Having a cut-scene every 5 minutes rarely allows gamers to get into a "zone". The whole first half of the game (as far as I've gotten) feels like one big Quick Time Event, with mini-shoot outs being the button presses. A lot of the time you don't know if you should be even wasting ammo since it's not always clear if the action is scripted or not.

My other main gripe, and it's alomst game killing, is the friendly AI. Whenever you have friendly AI, you can just sit back and never fire a round. They will always be half a map in front of you, firing point blank range with a Sniper rifle. Me and my buddy like to play as tactical as possible. It's near impossible when your teamates are running waaayyy ahead of you and pushing the action past where you are and want to be.

I'm a huge Gears fan so it's not like I'm just some troll. Gears 1 was and is my favorite campaign experience.

I couldn't get into the first Gears, but this one is simply amazing, imo.

This is a man's game. I love the chainsaw. I love the dialogue. I love the action. I love the over-the-top stuff (like the worm level) and how they kind of make fun of how over the top it is (the dialogue following the worm level) when they are drenched in blood.

It is a style - you either like it or you don't. I like it.

This game feels like a war. It is epic. The scope, scale, and depth is unparalleled in any console game I've played to date. Hell, I'm actually enjoying the co-op campaign more than I enjoyed COD4's campaign and I LOVED that single player game.

And Horde is a blast. My friends and I have never had so much fun getting our asses handed to us.

Ironically, this game has better pace, diversity, voice acting, characters, and story than Fallout3.

Seems everything that made me dislike the first one is still there.. and it still seems like no one cares.
"Well, that all pales to the fact that.. HOLY CRAP HEADSHOTS BOOM BOOM BLAM BOOM! 9.5! 10! 10! ...11 MAYBE!"
Sigh. I'm jaded, I know, but I view this thing being popular and scoring well a whole mockery on where videogames have come, and the advancement of the genre in general.. and the true spot where this gen really failed. "Well, games have gotten expensive to make... Japan is no longer good at advancing game design as they once were.. here's the best we can do folks! This and BioShock. Have fun!"

Ok, I think they did a really good job in Campain. Much better than first one.

Here is where they messed it up BIG TIME. Multiplayer!! What did they do with the mechanics of the game?? It just doesn't feel right and snappy like the first one. Seems like there's a lag between the time you press the button and the time it takes for the gun to fire...and no it is not the connection, it's a local game.
Another thing I found annoying is the granades stuck behind walls. I can't even see them because they are on the other side of the wall and they still kill me?! That's just killing the fun and the rush of the game.
Too bad....very disappointed with Multiplayer! I guess I will try it a little more to see if I can get used to it, but looks like I will have to go back to playing Gears 1.

Be more like COD4's matchmaking, are you serious? That was one of the most broken systems out there. Apart from having to constantly back out and reload the lobby because party members kept getting dropped, inability to enable team and party chat only, and many other issues, the only thing that was good about it was that you could jump into an already existing game that had open slots.

Halo 3 still has the best matchmaking system as far as partying up and game selection goes, though it too has its share of issues, particularly with the ranking system.

I loved GoW1. Absolutely loved it, thought it was truly an amazing game.

I thought GoW2 was very "meh." The first level in the hospital is awesome, and the second level where you are in the town escorting Dizzy and Betty is amazing. The underground was where it started to let me down. Then came the centaur tank driving. Seriously, its the year 2008 Epic, why the hell can't you make one stick control the wheels and where I'm going, and one control the turret. Absolutely idiotic decision.

What kills this game for me are the story and the AI. The story doesn't really explain anything, and all it does it make it so Epic can sell you volume 3 to know what happened. There is no closure, there is no climax, there's just an asanine ending that feels like it was written the day the game was supposed to go gold.

The AI is also horrendous. Your teammates don't help you up, they get in the way CONSTANTLY of your shooting. They get meleed by 3 or more people and take seemingly no damage. Half the time Dom didn't follow me in the Nexus and would just "appear" next to me when I hit a check point.

That said, the game LOOKS beautiful. The levels look absolutely stunning, and some of the visuals they have pulled off are mindblowing. The level design is actually very well done, and the level variances (ie facility, hospital, underground, etc) are all a nice change of pace. Once your sick of one, boom youre on to the next.

I think that Fallout 3 really ruined any hope this game had of being good (well, that and unrealistic expectations).

I never understood the hype with the GoW series; I did play the first one, but it was a notch above mediocre at best. The majority of the game consisted of shoot-shoot-cover and got really old after a few hours. I don't have any complaints on the technical aspect of the game; the graphics were nice, the environments were pretty, I didn't fall into any major glitches, and the AI, although not the best, served it's basic purpose. My main complaint is that the gameplay got really old really fast, and I saw very little replay value for it; I would've been more than pissed had I spent $60 on this. Thank you, piracy!

I think this is why my hard-earned dollars will be going to Mirrors Edge on Friday when I get paid. Its simple really...

the hype that came with GOW2, was really the same that came with Halo 2 and 3. People's expectations became huge. It overpowered them, really. Reviewers seemed to really score this game on hype, and for the little that I have played it (about 10 hours... 7 in main story co-op, getting mid way through chapter 3, and the other three in multiplayer), I can't recommend it. There is too little that is new, exciting and overall spectacular. I liked the first Gears, to an extent, and seeing that they set it up for a sequel really didn't make me happy. what happened to, "Were going to create a self contained story in this realm, and if we do well, we will keep the universe, but have fresh ideas and characters?" Resident Evil did this for all of its major installments. Or if you Truly want to create an epic, look at the Shenmue model, and create meticulous story line, with an extreme amount of detail and care for your characters and the dialog.

As a gamer, I am getting sick of these cookie cutter 3rd/1st person shooters and action games. There needs to be innovation, and not gimmicks, like the Wii. REAL innovation. Better storytelling. More immersion.

Am I asking too much? Probably, but explain to me how games that were made in the 16/32-bit eras like the SNES, PSX, N64 and Dreamcast were so much better then what we are playing now?

No offense, but I don't know how anyone can say this:

"The AI is also horrendous"

about GoW2 and then say this:

"I think that Fallout 3 really ruined any hope this game had of being good"

about Fallout3.

Fallout3 is the biggest hoax of all time.

Its Oblivion re-skinned and with the item-creator removed.

For a game that has:
1) Some serious cover mechanics - lean, duck, stand, jump, go around, blind fire, aimed fire, etc
2) Revival of downed teammates
3) Such diverse weapons
4) Enemies that all have their own quirks, strengths, weaknesses, and tactics

I think GoW2's AI is phenomenal. And then you have Fallout3 where the AI is absolutely, hands down, the worst AI known to man. How hard can it be? All they have to get right is:

1) Pathing (failure)
2) Ranged Weapon (they are all the same)
3) Melee Weapon (they are all the same)

There are no different types of enemies... they all do the same stuff: Shoot at you until you die or they die. Period. No special abilities. No special tactics. Nothing.

Fallout3's pace, story, etc is horrible.

That game is Fisher Price: My First Scavenger Hunt - The Mutant Edition.

Do you want to see everything Obliv... er Fallout3 has to offer? Get the house in Megaton. Cheat with money. Buy each of the available "house themes". There, you've just seen the entire game.

Do people actually have fun scavenging every desk, file cabinet, trash can, mailbox, metal box, ammo box, etc for cigarettes, teddy bears, and empty whisky bottles? Seriously?

And do people like fighting "wanna-be vampires" who act, talk, fight, look, sound, move, etc just like everyone else in the game? No special abilities. No special weapons. No special tactics. Its like, the guy said, "We are vampires!" and you said, "Okay! Cool! I believe you!"

Fallout3 is a slap in the face to every intelligent gamer on the planet. Bethesda should be ashamed of themselves.

Don't get me started on Dogmeat. How hard would it have been for at least a stupid dog whistle item to call him out of combat and make him come to you? You know, so he doesn't die from your own weapons or from things he has no business trying to chew up?

The one COOL thing about FO3 is VATS, but unfortunately, it is way underutilized mechanically. Even with 10 AGI, there is never enough APs. It sucks at long ranges (someone with good aim and crosshairs is superior to VATS at almost all but the closest ranges). There is no synergy with other skills or mechanics in the game and VATS.

Blah, off topic... Fallout3 is horrible. I've said it before and I'll say it again: If a mod team re-used Oblivion assets (textures, models, and sounds), they could recreate Fallout3's story, quests, items, NPC's, etc in 6 months or less.

My TV is a 1080p DLP, and I actually just played Gears 1 a few days ago. It really depends on what part of the game you're looking at. Certain environments are considerably more complex than ones in the original, however there are many times where that isn't the case. Also, character models don't look improved at all, and the actual surface of the water on say a level like Gridlock, doesn't look any better than what was in the original. Lighting still isn't that great, as playing the level River, you can see the shadows of other players going through the floor of the buildings where the torque bow and sniper spawn. I'd rather see a more dynamic lighting engine where EVERYTHING casts a shadow, but maybe that isn't viable with the Xbox 360 hardware and everything they're doing in Gears. The only other thing that bothers me is how the music and sound effects seem to be mostly reused from the first game. That being said, Gears 1 was the best looking game out when it released, so Gears 2 didn't really have a lot to improve.

Talk about heightened expectations and extreme nit-pickery. I played GoW incessantly back in the day-- it's what convinced me to buy a 360 in the first place-- and GoW 2 improves upon the original in nearly every conceivable way. From the variety of environments to the story line (meaning there IS a story line, this time) to the new weapons, enemies and play mechanics, there's really no going back. If you're a fan of the series, the sequel doesn't disappoint.

I totally understand that the game may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I find criticisms like "it's just shoot cover cover shoot" to be somewhat ridiculous, since you can level the same argument at nearly any action game ever made. Me, I find COD repetitive. (Hey! It's just "run shoot cover run shoot.") And I thought Halo's story was anemic to the point of utter senselessness. But c'mon, we're talking about shooters here, let's admit that these games are repetitious by nature and assess them accordingly.

What does GoW 2 get right? Variety of environments and play mechanics, for one. Whether you're dodging deadly hail, riding a locust gunboat through a cave or hacking a giant worm apart from the inside out, GoW 2 keeps offering new environments and variations on its core formula as the campaign progresses. What else? Insane graphics and (more importantly) art direction. Easily the best on the system yet, and if you think they haven't improved the character models and lighting, just boot up GoW and run through the first couple of levels. There's no comparison. I'm playing the game projected on 110-inch screen and the attention to detail is stunning. People complaining this game "lacks polish" are being impossibly greedy (or they need to have their eyes examined). I can't think of a game with MORE polish, even if it's still not perfect.

Most importantly, it's just FUN. I played co-op with a friend who never plays shooters, and he couldn't put down the controller. Then we played Horde mode online-- ridiculous. We were at it for hours, only stopping when exhaustion became insurmountable. This is what action games are all about-- that addictive urge to press on, to take out a few more baddies and see what the next chapter has in store.

What could be improved in GoW 3? A better story with less action movie clichés, sure. And let's see destructability with actual consequences, like eroding cover, now that the engine is capable of it. I think new mechanics like meat shields could be better integrated too, as a lot of the new touches are optional rather than integral to the game. Finally, a few battles with less linearity and obvious spawning points would add to the experience. But overall, this is a no-brainer purchase for anyone who likes shooters and action games. Let the haters hate, I'll be playing GoW 2 'til the early morn.

I haven't found one major issue with this game. All the complaints and gripes are usually things that don't matter..

I always go back with my party that I made after a game.

Silly glitches like punching a guy on the ground and he's not there just makes me laugh, not sad (and for anyone who would cry about something like this.. you need to get out more)

And so on..

To me, the game is flawless. I have no trouble playing matchmaking. I have no lag in matchmaking, Campaign is amazing. etc.

Most of these issues are just silly things that happen every now and then, as it does in every game ever made.

Also, if you're having loading issues with the game.. turn on your 360, then hold the ring button down on the console till it is off. After that, hold it down again to turn it on, but don't let go of it until you are in the menu. What this does, is it clears the 360 cache files from the console(NOT THE HDD). This helps your 360 actually run faster. It worked with me ^_^

LOL, Alot of Hate for this game... Nit-picking, whining.. This has the makings of a dope ass movie.. It's that good. I love the supporting characters, the
graphics are amazing. And it moves at a steady pace that picks up when you near a boss or big battle.

This game would be GOTY to me, but I gotta give that to GTAIV. But Gears2 is a very close, Very Close second.

This is the XBOX360 GOTY though.

And you just gotta play this on Insane co-op! Intense!
