Dear UGO,

2008 was a sucky year and 2009 was supposed to be a lot better. YOU ARE NOT HELPING!

Sincerely,
Levi

Man, UGO can eat a fat dick. 1UP's podcasts were probably their biggest assets, and by far the best in the industry, and they just fire everyone involved with them? Are you fucking shitting me?

UGO, fuck you. I hope you all fucking die.

I agree 100%. The 1up Show and all their podcasts were what made that site really stand out.

Jeez, I thought Jeff Green and Shawn Elliot leaving a while back was a much pain as 1Up would put me through. Turns out I was wrong, good luck everyone who was fired by UGO/1Up. Their podcasts are what gave them their unique voice in the sea of a million voices, it's going to suck without them around every week.

To everyone over at 1UP and EGM, my thoughts are with you guys. This big business taking over the industry is total BS. I mean look at what happened to Gamespot like a year ago; GerstmanGate. And who was there to support Jeff, a bunch of the 1UP staff. I am here for you guys and will follow you wherever you go! Look at Giantbomb, I followed Jeff and have been following that dude for like a decade now!

It sucks this has to happen, but it happens when 1 company buys another. While it is great to get the financial support, they always have to "trim the fat". It just sucks that my work week was always listening to podcasts and these were 2 of them.

1UP.com and Electronic Gaming Monthly were two of the biggest reasons I wanted to get into writing. They showed that if you can combine it with something you love, glorious results will follow. Especially in their reviews and blogs, they showed a lot of free thought and ideas flowing through them.

You knew 1UP would never sell out like GameSpot did because you trusted the people who worked there. I know I did. And to see probably the best gaming website out there being destroyed by laying off nearly ALL OF ITS STAFF for the sake of money?

It's true, 1UP gets a second chance with this buyout, but at THIS price? Consider 1up.com dead as well, because I'm officially blacking it out starting now.

This is a tragedy. Good luck to all staff members who were met with such terrible news at the beginning of a hopeful new year. Now my dreams are crushed.

Wow. 1up.com has become my favorite game site to visit and 1up Yours one of my favorite podcasts. They garner a huge amount of traffic and are one of the few gaming websites out there where people can actually identify personalities from the site.

I am looking at this list of cuts and it looks like 1up.com is no longer going to be my go to site for game information.

Just wow.

So, what about my subscription to EGM? Will I be getting a subscription to something else instead, in light of the fact that I have already prepaid for about 2 years worth of EGM issues?

Wow, this is really sad. I didn't actually use 1up.com very often, and didn't listen to 1up Yours, but I really really liked 1up FM and obviously that is gone since both the hosts and virtually all the guest talent are gone. I'm assuming my other favorite, Retronauts, will be gone too, even though its host is technically still around. I can't imagine he'd still be doing what was probably their least downloaded podcast with everything else cancelled.

SUCKS!! Here I was refreshing all the time and hoping to see a new 1up FM any second and now I never will.

How great is this. When the last Playstation magazine closed they transfered all our memberships to EGM at a 2 to 1 ratio. I had a 2 year and I ended up with a total of 65 issues. I have 54 left! i guess i can forget about them. To be honest, EGM sucked, I only had it because of the transfer. Im not pissed, I got my moneys worth.

You can add me to the list of those fired. GameVideos Intern here...

There is no doubt that this is a sad day for many people (my friends) and for gaming journalism in general.

I know my buddies will continue to succeed in the future and prove how incompetent UGO is. They lied to our faces a month ago, and have tarnished one of the best websites on the internet. 1UP still retains a good group of guys, (Sharkey, Jeremy Parish, Ray Barnholt, Mike Nelson, Alice Liang, Scooter, and the remnants from GameVideos, David, Rich and Nelson. That being said, it will be up to them to decide what will happen to 1UP. UGO has shot themselves in the foot quite early into their reign and I know more than a few of those that remain are pissed, confused, and upset over the loss of their coworkers and the assault on the website they pour love into on a daily basis.

The people that they have laid off are the ones that make the site and the podcasts what they are. Anyone of the bigger names Ryan, Shane, Donnahoe, Mielke etc could start their own site and podcast and have the same success that 1up has in a week. This is pathetic by UGO considering that noone knows their poorly produced bs any how.

Holy fuck!!! 1UP Yours was the only thing that got me through the mind numbing 2 hour drive I've been having to make every weekend. This fuckin' blows balls. Not to mention my now useless EGM subscription. They're pretty arrogant if they think that the traffic will remain the same.

Well UGO can forget getting my advertising dollars. Between Nick Suttner and Philip Koller's 1UP FM fresh take, and the familiar 1UP Yours, I had really come to appreciate 1UP's take on video games and the business of gaming.

Without these trusted "friends" I have no interest in what is left of 1UP.

What the hell is 1Up going to be like without the likes of Shane Bettenhausen, Ryan Scott, and James Mielke? Seriously, this is how 2009 starts out?

All the podcasts gone? The 1Up Show gone? These guys, all of them, were part of my weekly life. Now there's just going to be an empty spot as my days go by.

This is a damn shame.

Does anyone else other than me completely not care about EGM? I've always thought EGM was the worst video game magazine on the market. It was for teenagers and highschool students at best. Like maybe 1 step above GamePro, and that's being nice. Good riddance.
