We've known for a year now that EA has had the rights to toy favorites G.I. Joe, so perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that they'll be rolling out their take on the license alongside this summer's tent pole film, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. EA's not talking gameplay at this point but we know (1) you'll get control of 12 different Joes (2) single-screen co-op and (3) it's basically coming to every platform.
The game's story will apparently pick up at the end of the movie's (it's going to have a story?) and allow you to "re-create and re-live the greatest moments from the film, cartoon series and action figure toy line". From that last bit, we can only assume there's going to be a level where the Joes dry hump giant Barbie dolls and get their faces melted after lying under skyscraper-sized radiators.

They should make it a brawler like Final Fight. Not enough good ones this generation...

Brawlers need to have a deeper hook to be successful now days.
At the peak of their popularity, you either played at the arcade; your play was limited by your coin, or played on your home console; your play was limited by your lives.
The gameplay is repetitive and basic, and as much as I am a fan of the type of game, they have difficulty holding up in this day and age of unlimited lives and 7+ hour playthroughs.

Loved GI Joe as a kid, so I hope at least one of the two out of the movie and the game will be worth seeing/playing.
[fingers crossed]

They should just pack this game with the Transformers 2 game and call it the "Rape your Childhood Two-Pack"

Nothing will ever top the GI Joe animated movie.
The intro alone was the definiton of "USA".
Bombs strapped to the Statue of Liberty during a celebration?
Who is going to save the day and kick Cobra's ass while blowing up their mothership at the same time?
GI JOE, M#THERF#CKER! Put that in a PSA.

You guys know you are going to amongst the first people to see both Transformers 2 and G.I. Joe because you're curiosity is going to make you wonder how they deviated from the comics and cartoons. Then after, you'll sit back, criticize the films, and then determine that they were pretty good. And then you'll buy the DVD or Blu-Ray when it comes out.
As for the video games, yeah, I think they'll be pretty bad. (Transformers: The Movie anyone?)

Anyone remember the Konami arcade game? It played like that level of Contra where you your characters run in the z-axis (into the screen rather than side-scrolling). That game looked very impressive for it's day.

A Rainbow Six/Ghost Recon G.I. Joe game could be really great if it was done correctly.

The only way its good is if its all about Snake Eyes and if Kojima's directing it.

The game could be cool if they made it like R6V2 just make the bosses famous cobra bad guys. If Ubisoft was makin it they could. Don't know what EA has that would be close, maybe Army Of Two since they said it was going to be co-op throught.

I would have preferred the game be based on the cartoon series instead of the movie. It'll just look generic if it's based on the movie.
It would also be great if you could play as a Cobra member, either a high ranking member or as just one member of the many divisions they have.

They could make such a great game with all the characters and history of the franchise, but I'm sure it will be horrible.
There was a game I used to love called Jagged Alliance, it was a turn-based squad shooter, I always thought GI Joe would be a perfect ft for a game like that.

Jagged Alliance and Commandos were the first games I thought of when I heard this. Sadly, I doubt we'll get anything more than a mediocre action game.
And for DS fans, that means an even less exciting game. I love the DS and all, but we get hit hard whenever there is a multi-platform release.

I'll admit that just the idea of making a G.I. Joe movie is totally absurd, but I have to admit it's looking to be one of those fun PG-13 friendly big budget B-movies. Just like Transformers, this just looks like it will be an absurd amount of fun to watch.
Also, the action scenes in the superbowl ad were really much more impressive than I could have hoped. And the cleavage shot at the beginning? Guys, I think we have an instant classic on our hands.

A GI Joe game needs to be made by DICE's Battlefield team, since the vehicles played such a big part of the cartoon and toys.

As for re-living the past you forgot GI Joe getting strapped with 8 bottle rockets then launched into a low neighborhood orbit before crashing into the neighbors window. Oh wait I dont think the neighbors want to re-live that night. But man the fire trail and little bits of GI Joe goo melted across the street it looked like a Jihad bombing done by Stewart Little. God times, Good times.
