Mass Effect 2 teaser suggests grim fate of Shepard & co.

what, no taking into account (spoilers) those players who killed Wrex, or who denied Garrus a slot on the ship(or maybe you can't do that. I haven't tried)? Either way, it seems a new protagonist and/or party will be involved. Hopefully the actions in the last game will echo in this one...riiiight?

I bought the Platinum Mass Effect edition and it comes with a bonus disc. On that bonus disc there is a section called "Future of Mass Effect" or something like that and they talk about Mass Effect 2. They heavily emphasized bringing all your character data over and how building on that is the core of their idea. They never stated that you couldn't just pick up from part 2 but they sure implied that if you didn't play the first one you are going to not know what the hell is going on. Lots of great tidbits in it and hints at part 2.

So this makes me think Shepard will not die since it's the character you built from the first game. Also, makes little sense to release on the PS3 when you come in half way thru the story. Yes, I know it's been done before with usually crap results. The PS3 doesn't need this and MS needs exclusives. I hate to sound greedy but EA keep this game where the first one started. I don't want to see if go thru the meatgrinder developement cycle that is the PS3.

I don't think bioware is that shallow as to just randomly kill of a lead character? Oh wait they are making SW:TOR i guess they are that shallow.

Am I the only person excited about the prospect of playing as a new character? Sequel games always feel like a cop-out to me when I've played the first one because there's some stupid reason why I'm not the god I was at the end of the last game. "You got shot, all your stuff is gone." "You got captured, all your stuff is gone." "You threw away all your stuff. Why? Uh... you were stupid for a minute, I dunno."

I think that setting the game further down the timeline with a new character, dealing with the repercussions of Shepard's quest would be epic. And maybe Shepard shows up and is an NPC/party member, but the story is about your new character in the same universe. My two cents.

Shepard doesn't die...the geth are infiltrating the alliance and turning humans to robots like they did to the species they wiped out 50,000 years ago..I forget their name.

Does anyone else here just LOVE the soundtrack and the music for Mass Effect?
Not that you'd sit back and listen to it in your own time but that it is perfect for the game.

If you go to the official website, the video page has it outlined as a cerberus group transmission, so don't write Sheppard off yet. Besides according to the site as well the next tidbit will be on February 24.

This makes me mad because the developers promised that your character would continue in the second and third game with the same save file from the first game.
I bet they are killing off your character and making you start fresh because the sequel went multi-platform.
I'll wait for more details but if it doesn't continue your character with the save files you already have like the developers promised then I'll be striking this one from my list.

I said this on IGN as well. Does anyone else notice that the "2" at the end of the trailer doesn't just look like, but IS the 2 from the Gears of War 2 boxart?

It makes me question the validity of the trailer in the first place. And in my opinion, I think you're either going to play as Shepard or you will have to find or uncover information about him.

Well...I really hope Shepard's not dead- I mean, what was the point of the romance subplot and all that other stuff in the first game if it's just gonna get wiped away?

Honestly, I hope s/he's just gone missing somewhere and the second game is the rest of his crew trying to find him/her. Like, you play as Gunnery Chief Williams or Lieutenant Alenko (whichever one survived the first game) tracking him down or somesuch.

Either way...I just came bricks.

I have SO many theories about this trailer, I can't tell where to start.

Basically, there are 3 main ones I have:
1- Shepard dies in combat as the Geth start to take over, possibly with the help of the Reapers or the Terminus systems (i think that's the other system of pirates and etc.).
2- Shepard stops some big, dangerous plot to destroy the galaxy and is assumed to be KIA, but he miraculously survives. This leads directly into the start of Mass Effect 3 where Shepard has to struggle to survive with few items, which he takes from enemy Geth or whoever, and he has to get back to his crew.
3- Shepard is captured by the Geth and turned into one of them, making it so a new main character will be introduced in ME3, OR you can play as another squad member to save him somehow, although im not sure how that'll work out...

Well, however the story plays out, they'd better make the side mission buildings unique this time, add more primary story missions, and can we PLEASE have a Salarian on our team? or maybe a Volus. But if nothing else, I really want the MAKO to not suck this time. Seriously, that ride needs a serious upgrade and some serious pimping out.

Now I have the sudden urge to go play Mass Effect again...

fucking geth, anyway, i loved tali, i hope that she is still in the game, and has more plot development this time, she seemed to be ripped off a bit. her and that turian whose name i cant remember.

What a lot of you seem to be missing is that some of this appears to be a video log from a remote drone, you see his gun (either floating in space, lying on the ground or standing straight up), then you see the N7 of his armour and then catch a glimpse of possibly blood on the lower right (notice this is only A section of his armour), then you get a zoomed out shot of the location of the section of armour (which could have been taken off, shot off or placed as a burial marker), then you see the Geth head (of either the foot soldier or larger tank, etc) attack and the video feed go dead.

So from that there could be quite a number of possibilities but for a stab in the dark I'll go with Shepard and the crew went to Terminus system/s and Shepard is missing (then presumed KIA due to the found armour either by the crew and/or other parties), the crew is still alive and well and you either have to find and rescue Shepard and carry on from there OR Shepard being KIA is a ploy (for what ever reasons will come out in the game) and the crew knows he's alive but everyone else thinks Shepard is dead.

Guess we'll find out a bit more in a few days when the next vid comes out lol

Never finished ME 1. Got up to the bit where I had to choose someone to set off the nuclear bomb after I got Wrex killed on the beach. Got bored after that.

I hope Shepard at least makes it through the game and dies at the end of it if at all. Would hate to have to start as a new recruit after becoming a spectre and honing in my sniper to maximum lethality.

Just Thought Id throw this out there, but (and this is basically a spoiler for the to be mentioned game) But In Brothers In Arms: Hells highway, It seemed Baker Dies, but turns out it wasn't what it seemed.

whats going to happen is this-The normandy will be shot down at the beginning of the second game. the crew will die with an exception of Shepard. THe N7 seen on the geth is either from the ship or possibly Kaidan/Ashley's armor or possibly they lived and were impaled on a geth spike. Either way they are dead and shepards not. This way the only thing that has to carry over from the save is Shepard's attributes and whether or not the Council lived. Also it lets shepard start from the begining and slowly unlock a whole new crew.
