While controversies have mounted in the wake of Konami's Six Days in Fallujah reveal, a group of Iraq war veterans told G4TV they have "no problem" with the game.
"I believe that this could be a good thing for both combat veterans and for the war in general," triple-tour vet., Sgt. Casey J. McGeorge said. The group points out that a realistic game set in the current Iraq conflict may help civilians understand the situation. Army Sgt. Kevin Smith notes that an Iraq-based video game could "hopefully bolster support" for troops and encourage more empathy for veterans by showing civilians "what the war is really like [for soldiers]."
Peace groups, veterans and families called for Six Days to be banned following its announcement, but Marine Corps. Gunnery Sergeant John Mundy reminds everyone that those who are against the development of such a game "can spend their money elsewhere."

Sly,
What does time in history/time passed have to do with what you just said? Heck, if anything, you just supported my point that WW2 was worse.
Courtney,
I stand corrected.
I apologize, I should have looked it up, my memory fails me sometimes ;(

As with everything, if you have a problem with something then...to put it kindly, shut the hell up and move on with your life. Making a game isn't going to do anything to help or hurt you, so save everyone the hassle of hearing whining and move on.
And yes, I'm talking to anyone who has a problem with this game even if they served. I respect and appreciate what you did but that doesn't make you immune from being a douchebag.

Yes, perfect. This is the simple logic many people seem to be lacking.

It's not enough for some people that they don't have to buy the game, they don't even want it to get made. Makes no sense to me either.

You know what'd be really cool? Real life troop rosters of actual overseas combatants complete with real-time stats on them for a war game, EA sports style!
The real world combatants would be NPCs and you'd fight along side them. If they get their head blown off, it's immediately in the game!
Better still... instant replay and the ability to replay battles against a fallen combatant's ghost... based on the logs of their real world activity taken from the last seconds of life recorded on their little black box units on their belts. (Sure beats dog tags...)
Heck, it'd make the lives of superior officers easier too... now instead of actually writing a "he died, lady" letter to a fallen combatants mother, an automated system can simply send out a game disc mom can pop into the computer or game console and watch a glorious 3D recreation of their son's last moments from any angle they want! (Monthly subscription fees still apply...)
Shock and Awe*, indeed!

Sad thing is... much of this is probably already happening. :-P

3 or 4 posts in a week? The game is reaching everyone's ears and I can't help but think that Konami was aware of the controversy that would happen and see it as beneficial to the marketing aspect.
Also, I imagine that Sargeant Mundy's comments weren't in the spirit of 'reminding' people and more along the lines of making them 'give him 20'.

That's ok... in a few years it'll be more like "give him a 20"...

Glad to hear all the pessimists and naysayers haven't yet created a chilling effect on this game. I really want to see what these guys come up with. Maybe if its successful, the days of video games set in these generic Middle Eastern countries will finally come to an end.

Make this shit and make it well. I have 27 months overseas (Two tours, both Iraq and Afghanistan) and I can't wait to see what they do with this game. I'm a Combat Engineer in the Army and I love seeing what people think about the war, even if it's just so I can laugh at them.
To everyone saying they hope this game is like "real war," I pray to God it isn't, because that would be the most boring video game ever made. Let's all practice sleeping in a tent with 20 other people for a year and trading porn amongst ourselves! I was lucky enough to see some action in Iraq and I know no medium will ever come close to portraying the sheer epic nature of it. If you want to know what real war is like, join the military. If you want to be entertained, play video games about war.

not surprising... american's often like to see themselves kicking ass - legitimately or illegitimately. the iraq war is an example of the latter; an illegitimate slaughter of innocent peoples, and the pillage of their land. you can bet i won't be buying or promoting any game that promotes this type of blunder on world history...

Before you start the obligatory America bashing, you should know that Canada was one of the biggest supporters of the U.S. during the Iraq war in terms of material, logistical support and transportation. Canada also deports war resisters back to the states. If it weren't for Canada it would have been a lot more difficult to "pillage" and "slaughter." I'm not saying that I support the war. I'm saying don't throw stones. Sure, Bush started the war, but the whole "coalition of the willing" supported it.
P.S. There is no apostrophe in Americans. Maybe you're more proficient in french.
P.P.S. Is there such a thing as the legitimate slaughter of innocents?

Canada doesn't have to worry about the horrors of war when they know they can run to the US in the case of any military aggression against them like the true descendants of the French that they are.

First, and this is coming from a parent of two kids. Any parent who is upset with the US government because their child died fighting in the military since the draft was dropped, needs to get a grip on reality. Those people are whiners who don't have the balls to be upset with their own child. POINT: Their child CHOSE to join the military knowing full well that they might die while in the military. People like Cindy Sheehan tick me off. Her son chose to join, he chose to fight, he sent letters telling her he knew what he was doing and he was proud to do it and that if he died, he was happy to do so. Then she turns around and belittles his life, memory and sacrifice. Not only that, but all the freaking money she's making off decrying his memory makes me sick.
I have friends who will never be the same because of their experience fighting for the US. I've had a few die fighting for me to sit here and type this. Not one went in believing they were going to a party. People, remember our soldiers with gratitude, respect and honor.

It's a shame too few people realize the fact you presented. Most of the ones crying about our poor troops have never served themselves and have no idea that the majority of people in the military like what we do. We sure as hell aren't in it for the money.

appeasement is the word i think you're looking for, but canada's government does not necessarily represent the views of the people. our position in afghanistan (not iraq) was initially accepted as a peacekeeping operation, but only recently has it escalated to the point of war. 100+ dead soldiers should not have to compensate for the united states' failure to handle foreign relations. americans should look and observe beyond their borders, instead of actuating their world view on others, especially when it's not fully understood; is your idea of freedom not having medicare or any semblance of a social-safety-net? americanization, and your failed capitalism is not the type of structurally flawed system that should be imposed around the world. sorry.

Yeah, you canadians are so great, we Americans are so horrible.
I'm glad that you pay taxes so that people who don't take care to take care of thier health don't have to worry.
Our "failed" capitalist society isn't the cause of the economic downturn, it's the government regulation requiring banks to give loans to people that shouldn't qualify that led to this disaster. Ie: exactly the kind of touchey feeley eh bullshit you got going on there in Canada.
Hey how's that free health care after all? Did it kill any more celebrities since Ms richardson with your cost benefit analysis?
Guess what? our emergency romms are required by law to treat people regarless of coverage, and our doctors don't have to weigh the cost of using equipment to save someone's life.
But if you seem to love paying higher taxes, which is YOUR MONEY btw so others are insured, that's great, you just don't need to make 500 joystiq posts bashing our system.
I have government health care and it sucks.

writing that at 2:30am EH? nobody dies in our waiting rooms, but thousands every year die in the USA because their uninsured. blah blah, i'm sure you've heard it many times, but why defend your nation's health care system when its among the worst in the world? i would rather wait a few months for a cat scan, than die because the quarter million dollar surgery 'isn't covered.' and i've made under 10 posts here, maybe because i'm not as insecure as some people. well... americans, really. you make us canadians (and the rest of the world) laugh our asses off. get an education. durrrrr

You think every person in the U.S. supported Bush and the war? Bush didn't even win the popular vote. Your stupid mistake is thinking that every American agrees with the war. I know you want to sound smart, but when you make generalizations you are a fool. Then you bring up heal care...why? It's not really relevant to this page.

I actually wrote it this afternoon. I'm at GMT +1 Buddy guy.
I don't know what people you think are uninsured, but I see a lot of your worthless countrymen jumping the border to get a crack at our health care so it must not be all that bad.
There's no reason for anyone here to be uninsured, unless they choose not to, for the people that don't work, there's medicare and medicaid, for old people medicare, for poor kids, S-CHIP, if you have a MCjob, they offer healthcare, if you are too greedy to pay for it, boo fucking hoo, it's your choice.
The reason our healthcare is high, is because of asshole lawsuits, lack of tort reform, and illegal alien who like to use the emergency rooms (which I've pointed out above HAVE to treat them regarless of coverage) as a doctor's office.
Frankly, those people dying wouldn't make me shed any tears.
