if you would buy it as dlc youd have to pay MUCH more. 48 tracks for $2 each, you do the math...

Except if it were DLC I wouldn't be forced to buy all 48 songs to get the handful I'd actually want.

At 48 tracks, this is pretty weak.

I mean come on, the original Rock Band game had more songs.

However, I'll admit that due to the nostalgia value of having tracks from 1, 2 and 80s, I would actually think about picking this up.

You know, 3 and a half years ago, I bought this game that only had 47 songs. Most of them were terrible covers. There were no bass, drums, or vocals. There was no Hyperspeed. The hammer-ons and pull-offs didn't even work, and some of the solos were even undercharted! Hell, there wasn't even a Pro Face-off! It was the first Guitar Hero. Despite the fact that there wasn't 84 songs, the setlist was epic.

Quality. Not Quantity. And with the tracks that have been announced so far.... I'm pretty sure they are going for quality.

When I played RB2 and GH:WT, I felt like 10-15 of the songs in each game were filler. I really didn't like having to drudge my way though those songs in career mode. Some bands are good to listen to but they just aren't GOOD for these games. Like Interpol, or Coldplay.
So Whatcha' Want by the Beastie Boys in RB2 is a fine example. It was so pointless, it 100%'d itself on expert vocals, and was straight green notes on expert bass. In GH:WT, you had a few of the foreign language songs. Also, the guitar battles were boring in GH:WT. (The ones in GH3 are crazy fun, and this was a huge let down for me.)

I will gladly take a game filled with 48 fun songs, rather than a game padded with filler songs.

I'm a huge fan of Rock Band, but when I played GH: Metallica, and compared the charts of songs I have on both games, and far and away preferred the GH charts over RB. While it's unfortunate that I won't have the option of adding the tracks to an existing platform, the charts are ultimately a lot of fun to play, and I'll be picking it up. Incidentally, the song that pushed me over the edge was "Free Bird."

Does it seem to anyone else that the way Activision has treated GH:WT is much like Microsoft treated Windows Vista? They touted it as their main platform, but every action they've taken since release implies that their focus is on a future product (revealed as Windows 7 in MS' case, unknown in Activision's case). Unless Activision decided that they don't want a unified platform, but neglected to mention it to anyone.

Wow, so many people complaining over nothing. What's the big deal with DLC, not everyone is able to get stuff online so it would be unfair to those who have no internet. I prefer to have my stuff on a disk anyway, you never know what's going to happen to all your DLC ten years down the road.

I'm getting sick of the rate Activision is pumping out new GH discs. It's ridiculous.
Now that I've gotten that off my chest, I might actually consider picking up the disc just for the hell of it. I really liked some of the songs on GH 1&2. Will they be original masters by the artists themselves? Or will they still be covers like on the original games?

GH is a joke now.........i loved Metallica, but WT/3/Aerosmith(lol) all blow in comparrison

as far as you kids saying the charting is better on GH?

no, the charting on RB is more realistic, maybe easier, but RB is if you like music, GH is if you like being punished, if you play these games because they think it makes you look cool then by all means buy GH, but if you like these games because its a different way to experience music and you plan on playing with some of your friends then get RB

and those of you looking for a challenge? 600+ songs available for DLC with more to come.........still plenty of insane songs..........between 5-10 still havnt been FC'd

Rock Band has a superior vocals system, hands down, which is too bad because I've been waiting since day one to sing-along to Franz Ferdinand. Not to mention some of those other songs would be fun to sing as well.

Until then, here's hoping for next weeks Rock Band DLC... again. :/

As much as that would rock (so much), I'm optimistic about Rock Band's chances of eventually getting more Blue Oyster Cult, and I refuse to cave in - I am just not going to reward Activision for behaving like this.

Sorry Activision. GH is a turd and there is little you seem interested in doing about it other than creating new offshoots. If that pays the bills, that's fine, but DLC sales will show where the core music rhythm audience is.

The whole RB/GH thing has become the mac/pc debate of the gaming world, and its incredibly annoying. When RB is putting out a Beatles game and it can't export thats ok, but GH doesnt export and they are the asses. GH "puts out too many games, saturating the market" RB announces a PSP game and they are brilliant. UGH... I own both games on Wii, and the only thing i'm hoping for in GH:SH is the ability to use DLC I got in GHWT in the new engine. it would also be smart for them to put the music store in smash hits as well.

I fell in love with Guitar Hero when I played "Take Me Out" in a Best Buy. I never had a PS2, so I've been waiting for it to come out on DLC ever since. But a full priced game? Ugh. I'm going to hurry up and wait for a price drop.

I love how some people try to put down DLC but lots of comments mention buying the game because of one or 2 songs that are in this game. So instead of being able to just buy those must have songs they have to buy a $60 disk. PS2 and Wii owners its your fault your buying the gimped versions of the games so stop complaining about DLC.

On the other hand juan,

I love how some people put down a compilation disc, screaming for DLC. But then fail to remember they bitched up a storm when Activision did it for Guitar Hero 2.

Or are we supposed to forget about that since it didn't happen in the last six months?

I own every GH except for Metallica, Activision is insane if they think I'll pay $60 just to play the same songs again. If they really want to sell a lot of copies they should provide discounts for those who own the older GH games. Otherwise $30 is the most I would spend for this rehash.

DLC is technically more profitable per song downloaded, but is not without overhead. Each DLC track has to be developed as a level and tested thouroughly for playability and quality. Also consider that boxed games still outsell DLC by a WIDE margin, that there are a great many gamers that do not purchase DLC either by preference, or lack of the service necessary to do so. As an avid fan of both Rock Band and Guitar Hero DLC makes a lot of sense, but I would ask Activision how much the GH1 track packs sold for GH2 when it came out on XBOX 360. Probably not nearly as much as they had hoped. For the most part the buying habits of the general public revolve around purchasing tangible boxed copies of their games. That and this way they can bring it out for PS2 as well, which is still the most played console (why not its the oldest and cheapest).

Actiblizz could do DLC and see their returns decrease dramatically, but unfortunately the business model they are using WORKS. I would be greatly pleased to see them do more DLC and fewer releases but as long as Guitar Hero is printing its own money I do not see that happening. Curse you Actiblizz!

PS: With Harmonix doing Beatles Rock Band, Acti will have to work pretty hard to make a comparable band-based GH title. Metallica was GREAT but going forward I do not think Van Halen is going to cut it.

gh3's hopo system is broken. period.

you can strum a note and then merely hold down the next no-strum, no matter how far away it may be, and it will be played. no timing whatsoever involved.

not that i didnt like gh3 but i do recognize a flaw

I would be highly tempted to get this, but I'd need to make certain that they haven't Neversoft'ed the note charting. Because I don't know exactly what it is, but since GH3 I've never enjoyed playing the guitar as much as I used to. In GH1 & 2 even songs I didn't like musically were surprisingly enjoyable and it had that "just one more song..." gameplay going for it.

And while GH3 was still reasonably good it just didn't have that same feel for me, and by World Tour the game actually felt like a bit of a chore--even when playing some of my favorite songs something was lacking. I had actually thought I'd just gotten sick of rhythm games in general, but then I picked up Rock Band a little later and I got that old feeling back. I can't put my finger on it, but I can only assume that it has to do with the difference in the note charting.

So yeah, will definitely need to be a rent first to see how it's changed or not.
