As promised, today's episode of Pokémon Sunday brought the now not-so-surprising reveal of Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver. While the actual revelation wasn't particularly mind-blowing, the episode did feature a few seconds of gameplay (posted after the break) that will likely whet the appetites of many a pocket-sized monster fanatic.
The gameplay itself isn't that interesting -- the protagonist merely walks in circles a few times -- though we do get a good sense of the Pearl and Diamond-esque art style the remakes will adopt. Also, if this clip is any indication, it looks like your starter pokémon will follow your character around in a Pokémon Yellow-esque fashion. We feel so sorry for Pokémon detractors. If you guys had hearts, that news would make them feel pretty warm.

Very informative trailer, though the revelation of that Platinum-styled system where your starter follows you about is neat.

This'll be the first pokemon game I'll buy since...Gold and Silver >_>
Only if they have 251 pokemon. I don't want those new generation ones getting in my pokebutter.

Most likely it'll be limited to the 251 during the main quest, and you'll end up seeing the rest of them turn up after you beat the elite four. Although, I dunno how they're gonna handle it considering that there's a whole other region after you beat the elite four.

I'd have to disagree with you. As an owner of Gold, Ruby, and Diamond, I can say that I got the inferior versions of Pokemon each generation. One reason: the legendaries.
Lugia > Ho-Oh due to its tank like defense along with their equally uber special defense. Oh, and Ho-Oh gets utterly destroyed by Stealth Rock and Stone Edge.
Kyogre > Groudon because Rain makes a single type team (Water) become unbeatable whereas Sun barely adds anything to a team in my experience. Not only that, but even with Sun, Kyogre can destroy Groudon with an awesome move called Ice Beam.
And Palkia > Dialga due to its Kingdra like typing. Put Palkia and Kyogre on a doubles team and it's virtually impossible to beat. Put Kingra for opponents who love Grass Knot and Swampert for opponents who want to get Thunder on you on the sidelines, and watch your opponent struggle to beat you. And those are not even the only options.
And that is the reason I'm definitely getting SoulSilver instead of HeartGold.

I'm probably the only one who's disappointed. Remakes with better graphics are fine, but in the case of Pokemon Gold/Silver, unless it's a console adaptation with Pokemon Arena-Esque 3D Graphics, I'd much rather pull out the old GBC Cart and play it with some nice nostalgia. In which case, I'd much prefer a brand new game with an actual new storyline, rather than repeatedly using the same one as every Pokemon game (Beat the Gym Leaders whilst Occasionally Battling Rival/Beat the Gym Leaders whilst Occasionally Battling some Evil Pokemon Group).
How about something like this:
You're a Team Rocket Rookie. Your goal is to go sneaking about, stealing Pokemon, and getting promotions. Once at the top, you make your final battle to win control of Team Rocket.
That or battle some Gym Leaders and occasionally fight some evil organization that's trying to resurrect a legendary Pokemon.
Even if they have to be cliche, it's all ruined by the fact that you -know exactly what's going to happen the entire game-. It's like watching a Movie, and then watching a remake of it every year or two, and the story never changes.

You're sort of right. I have a big feeling that this game, even though I'm sure it'll be good and high quality, will just get bad reviews...Kind of like how platinum didn't get stellar reviews, this game probably won't bring much to the table, but that's just me assuming, I'm HOPING they make many many major improvements, and HOPING that this isn't like DSi only or something dumb like that...

I agree I always felt that the Color Palette in Gold,Solver, and Crystal were great, even today I still think that! and to me the sprites seemed to me like they took a lot of time and effort to draw them or the fact that they look hand drawn with ink or water color :D, also I know Everyone is in love with Typhlosion and Feraligatr, but one day I said "I wonder what it would be like if I started with Chikorita?", so I restarted my Silver version and ever since Chikorita became my favorite and Strongest Johto Starter Pokemon...anyways I can't wait!!! XD

I hope they dont follow you around all the time. I really don't like the Johto starters. I'd rather have a Piplup, Mudkip, or Bulbasaur follow me...

I want my cindaquill following me around. And then having an incredible badass typhlosion protecting my back.
Man that trailer was so nostalgic, some fuzzy feelings filled my heart for a moment, and not many things can do that, nostalgia sure works.
