I'm hoping there will be some sort of discount for current owners of Left 4 Dead who buy L4D2 through Steam. Maybe like $20 off.

Or selling the two games bundled for $50-60, and allow steam users to gift their original game to a friend who never got in on the action, much like the Orange Box allowed with HL2

Valve.I love your games, but quit blowing smoke up our asses with empty DLC promises. Team Fort and Left 4 Dead one are still waiting on DLC. Left 4 Dead's "DLC" was a glorified patch to fix exploits and put in two maps that should have been there from the start. HIRE MORE STAFF VALVE, WE WANT EPISODE 3. I do think Left 4 Dead is my favorite game of last year (along with Fallout 3) and am PSYCHED about L4D2!

This.

For the sheer gall of it, I won't be buying the game UNLESS their is a discount involved for those who purchased the original L4D.

VALVe has constantly stated that they want to make customers always feels like their purchase was "worth it".. and, well, seeing this announcement makes me want to Boomer right in the company's face.

*sighs.* I normally don't do this.. I mean, how can someone get angry at an inanimate object like a company?.. but, srsly, fuck you. I:

I paid $49 for your unsupported piece of shit..

I'm just as ticked as everyone else and I back up the OP 110% on their suggestion, but come on guys? Everyone who says they're not picking up the game or until it gets a serious price cut "out of principle" is talking out of their arse and they know it. Once the hype machines starts running full-motor and your friends and clan start high-fiving each other over how great the latest Valve game is, you're gonna lay down the $60 and buy the damn thing.

Whining doesn't mean anything if you don't back it up in numbers and history has shown us that Valve games are worth whatever "betrayal" you feel the company has inflicted on you.

I'll gladly pay $50 for the game since I know I will get hundreds of hours out of it like the first Left 4 Dead, but some kind of rebate coupon would be nice. Epic did it with Unreal Tournament 2004. They gave people who bought UT2k3 a discount if they bought UT2k4.

Wait... why can't L4D be the platform and this be a paid-for DLC? There's nothing stopping the updating of the engine through Steam and the campaigns from L4D are already compatible with L4D2.... i don't get it.

I have to agree with this. Unless there's more to L4D2, this probably should have been a premium dlc.

I'll still buy it though.

With the changes they are making to the gameplay such as the overhaul on the A.I. Director, the changeable levels created by the director. The new infected and different mechanics for the returning infected. There is a good chance that these changes are a bit too much for the current game to handle as DLC. It honestly sounds like they are taking the current L4D game and basically giving it a huge dose of steroids, because if you look at the Survival pack, aside from gameplay tweaks (no real new additions), the core game remained the same. This isn't the case with L4D2.

Yep. From what I have seen in videos they still have the same Hunter skin (have not seen boomer or smoker). That just seems pure lazy. If I'm going to pay 60 dollars for something, I want it to be new or at least re-skinned.

Absolutely no reason this couldn't have been DLC. Source engine is definitely flexible enough and the Survivor mode showed that.

In response to the "much longer" quote, it'd be pretty hard for this one not to last much longer than the first one, so that's not saying all that much. Even twice is long is still a pretty short lifespan.

I'm sure Valve will have no problem if folks wait for them to deliver on that "platform" DLC promise before laying a penny down on this game. That's my plan, anyway. (And I liked L4D... uncharacteristically, as I usually play as Francis.)

Seems fair enough if they made L4D 1 and found they didn't really do as good a job as they could. L4D 1 to me seemed like a test for the concept, as nothing else quite like it had been done before. However, for sure it could be more polished.

If they make L4D 2 as a much better platform for the whole game, then it makes sense they can concentrate on that as their expandable platform for DLC etc.

I suppose L4D 1 was kind of a L4D beta... with L4D 2 being the 'real deal'...

I hope they offer some sort of discount on steam, or offer some kind of deal for those of us who bought the original.. :(
However Left 4 Dead 2 is certainly looking to be an excellent game from the media released so far

So I shelled out $60 for a 'beta' of L4D ? That doesn't sound quite right. If I knew what was coming ahead, I could have just waited a bit longer and get the 'real deal' for the same value!

I love L4D, but I'm a little mad that Valve basically played me.

This doesn't change your original game, you still own the thing you paid for, and they are not holding a gun to your head and making you buy this,my guess is if you loved the original, you will get this, from impressions, they have made enough additions to fully justify a purchase.

Have you not has countless hours of enjoyment with the original L4D? Not to mention with everyone crying "Too Soon" that there is still another 6 months to go before L4D2 releases to still spend more time enjoying the gem that is L4D.

You make it sound now that L4D wasn't a quality game now that L4D2 is announced and yet it's still one of the best games currently out. I remember hearing word of DLC, and we got it through the Survivor Pack, but I don't recall them saying that they were going to be releasing a ton of DLC for L4D, but instead they were going to look into what they could do.

6 Months left. Plenty of time to still get more bang from your buck from the first game. I know I got my $60 worth in the first 3 months...and yet I'm still playing the game religiously. Worth every penny (and then some)

LuL to you PC owners wanting cheaper L4D2 through steam but completely negating the console owners having the game as well. They can't really update the game engine that easily for them nor can they "verify" ownership for a cheaper price. Wouldn't really be fair for valve to show more preferential treatment to PC users of their products than they already do (See: Updates to TF2 on 360 orange box).

Yeah, I'm really annoyed at this coming so fast... though what would make it semi-palatable would be if somehow the maps from the first game would be in the sequel so that they get the upgraded engine, and so that I don't have to switch discs to play them.

Agreed on the idea of the original content coming to L4D2. I hope that eventually Valve takes the original campaigns (with the original characters) and ports them to L4D2 either as they were from the original game or with enhancements to fit the new mechanics of L4D2 (though I think the latter option may be difficult with the way Valve makes levels).

Oh, and of course as free DLC.

I'll end up buying this anyway as I will blindly support anything that valve does(honestly they got me by the balls) but if they bundle with the original and let you gift your original to a friend and play with them this will be well worth the money (save me a Christmas gift to buy) "Hey joey look I got you l4d for Christmas now I'm going to go play l4d2 :-). I just want the new mode to be all melée survival :-)

People knew what they were getting when they purchased it, ever heard of reviews, do you even know how the sequel got initiated, read the ign impressions, they say how.
I am amazed at how people are getting bad reactions from this, they announced a sequel to imo the best game of 08, whats bad about that.
Its like the second this was announced, your 50/60 dollar purchase was meaningless, if that's how you feel, you should never buy a rock band/guitar hero/call of duty ever, because you will constantly be disappointed.

@Damien

The difference is I feel I got a full experience out of COD 4...as I logged around 30 days worth of time in the MP game.

I'm a huge valve fan, L4D purchased on the Xbox day one for me. 3 months after my purchase, the fan base practically disappeared. Getting a versus game takes forever to fill up a 8 man lobby (hence I've only played it like twice) I wanted some DLC, something else. Not to pay 60 dollars for a beta that was skimped on the features.

I really don't see how I can buy this one on Xbox now after seeing how fast players left the game.

Get some friends, douche. My buds and me play l4d 3-5 times a week and always have full games. Factor in that we play at around 2am PST and you can only assume, during normal hours, the community is even busier.

Hit a nerve did I? Strange...my freinds are more into drinking and playing football games, not zombie games. Hence I turned to Xbox LIVE, you know, the online service that connects you to people across the globe. How dare I to think there should be plenty of people playing this game three months after release!

I think ya'll are missing the point of J Snaz'es football quote... my impression is that he likes the games ya'll like, but his friends are a bunch of brain dead jocks who play madden all day while drinking.

He on the other hand, turned to the Xbox Live community to get his zombie killing on and there isn't much of a community to be found for L4D. There are 3 X360s in my house and I'm the only one who plays L4D but when I was in college, I had more friends who played. Fortunately, I can still play L4D against them even though I'm 900 miles away.

We can all pick our friends, but honestly, I'm not going to go around on a Friday or Saturday night asking everyone I meet while out do dinner or at a Brewers game if they play L4D and make my friends that way, nor will I even talk about video games with my coworkers since most of them are 40+ and save that sort of activity for their kids.
