I have a question....if they were survivors in a zombie apocalypse, and they had to face hordes and hordes of zombies....wouldn't their weapons be modded with more capacity for ammo, with maybe a bayonet on the end, high power uv flashlights, and powerful laser sights? those stock shotguns need to be reloaded quite often...

It's great that Newell is now acting sad that he admittedly screwed over PS3 owners of the Orange Box.

It's one thing to release a bad port, it's another to just abandon it like they did. Especially when the PS3 has such great potential.. they could have done great things with mods like UT3.

How did Valve "Abandon" the PS3, they didn't make the PS3 version of the Orange Box, EA did. If you think that abandoning a console is simply not making games for it, then Insomniac, & Naughty Dog have abandoned the 360 and Bungie and Epic abandoned the PS3 as well, the argument doesn't make much sense.

They still put their name and thus their word on the PS3 version.

I should have worded it differently, abandon the port, not the system. They could have pushed EA to fix up the issues.. or hell do it themselves. Instead they released it, and never looked back.

Come on. I'm getting sick of these rumours and all this screwin around tryin ta torture everyone! Valve says its too hard and they don't wanna waste the time developing for the PlayStation 3. This is a publicity stunt. Eh... Valve will be long done with Left 4 Dead I think by the time they finally develop for the PlayStation if EVER! Look at Electronic Arts. Electronic Arts has a partnership with Valve. Electronic Arts anyday could send its PS3 team is SKILLED! Have you seen Dead Space or the NHL games? There's skill in EA. I don't know about this. I think Valve is still just gonna whine and complain. Worthless. Get outta here. We don't want ya anyway. We don't want anyone that can't appreciate the tech of the PlayStation 3. Don't waste your time, and ours.

Ya know, Joystiq could take this same approach. Say, man, ya know. We could hire some more Editors that have interest in the PlayStation 3, cause with Joystiq, all it is, is hammer on the PlayStation 3. It falls short here, its got problems there. WELL JOYSTIQ, ITS YOUR FAULT! Every time you talk down the PlayStation 3, more and more gamers stear away from it. Game developers aren't gonna take the time to develop for something there's no interest in. The PlayStation has had a rough start, but that's fixed, its entirely dependant on Developers sucking it up and working hard to develop a quality looking game. But they aren't gonna do that, if YOU and other Media sites, look at all the negative that are fixable simply by changing a developers attitude, which isn't going to happen, until gamers change there's which starts with you! Have you given up sinse you've brainwashed them enough. I used to be them. I used to hate Sony because I was led to believe by IGN, Joystiq and Gamspot that it was junk. I never wanted one of my precious 360 games ported to the PlayStation 3 until, I finally saw a PS3. Played it and gave it some time to understand it. Now, any game PlayStation 3 can get IS GREAT! So long as developers aren't lazy and develop a quality version. Of course developers aren't gonna sell a game if they half-ass the job. Build a quality game, and they'll buy.

I definately agree with you. I used to bash the PS3 because everyone else did, and all the game sites said it was crap. Then I saw things like Uncharted, Resistance, and Little Big Planet and after some investigating I bought the Uncharted pack.
Best thing I ever did-I absolutely love it. Now my 360 gathers dust (ODST and ME2 might change that) while I play all the exclusives I missed. And it's likely to stay that way.

maybe they can get some coders that can code actual sense of running in their games as opposed to just sliding a camera angle through a room.

This was actually supposed to be a reply further up in the thread, not sure what happened.

I'm referencing Gabe Newell: "Yes. We haven’t done a good job of taking care of our PS3 customers at all for the existing Orange Box customers, and that is very frustrating to me personally."

He just said not too long ago that the PS3 was a waste of time. What happened?

As a 360 owner I hope they get L4D. It's a quality game

Plus they can deal with all a-holes who gave up playing the game as intended since they are bored with it that then turn around and complain when Valve announces L4D2.

I would just like to point out that he got the metacritic scores for PC and 360 right, but when it comes to PS3 he apparently doesn't even bother to check how his games are doing. The PS3 metacritic score for the orange box is an 89, not an 84. Five points difference on metacritic is actually a pretty big margin. Personally I believe he knew the score already and is still downtalking the PS3 without being obvious.

I would have preferred Portal on PS3 if it had been done right. For platformers and the like, the DualShock buttons work better in my opinion. It's about time Valve supports the PS3. Despite what the fanboys say, it's a worthy competitor to the 360.

It's more than a worthy competitor. We're talking about the future of real gaming, and the demise of a system that has not netted microsoft any profits...especially when they buy their exclusives from third party devs, just so they have something to talk about at E3...

I'm at the point where valve and gabe can take their games and sit on em. I was a huge fan of halflife, but their lazy "the ps3 is just too hard" whining has left a sour taste in my mouth. Nothing like a dev who thinks of themselves as revolutionary and creative who can't even learn a platform because it's too hard...

Pardon me while I hold my breath...

This is the same company that was complaining about the PS3 not selling and being a complete failure when it came out and started outselling the 360 day-by-day almost (granted, that's not true since last Fall, but you get my point). I doubt they will honestly put forth an effort to make a PS3 game unless they happen to be able to port a 360/PC game with no effort whatsoever (which would make the PS3 version inferior instead of equal like it can be). I like Valve and all, but they can be completely full of shit sometimes.

Well hopefully Valve gets on the ball and starts updating Team Fortress 2 for the PS3, I play that game almost everyday and enjoy playing it because it is such a good online multiplayer, but the lack of support from both Valve an EA are ridiculous. I'd pay for the updates for new weapons and maps. Epic does it for Unreal Tournamnet 3 why can't Valve do it for TF2?

translation: "We don't want to learn how to develop for the PS3 but there's money over there waiting so we are hiring people who know how to develop for the ps3 even if poorly so we can get revenues from these suckers." If you really want to give us a good experience you can look around for all the people who had their studios shut down this gen. and you will find plenty of capable people.

Valve has been in dire need of more talent in general (in the sense of them having more people), so if this is a good reason for them to expand, more power to 'em

Seriously, this is not the O.C, Valve.
Either make games for the PS3 already or stop spewing your B.S around.

If Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Zipper Interactive, Rockstar (Agent PS3 exclusive) see the value in the PS3 and make VERY impressive games for it, don't act like you are the holy revolver of developers and you deserve better.

And how hard can it be to hire a PS3 team? Being one of the biggest developers/ publishers in the gaming market today, surely they can afford it. But do they want to? No.
Worse comes to worse just go to any developer and ask for some tips...I guess they don't know Sony Entertainment has a world wide development community either.

You sure are starting to sound like unwilling lazy bastards when it comes to PS3 development there Valve.
