Just as Modern Warfare 2 is hitting PS3 and Xbox 360 this November 10, Wii will finally be getting something a little less modern in the form of a port of the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, according to Kotaku. The site doesn't divulge the source of its information, but claims the game is being brought to Nintendo's console by Treyarch, developer of Call of Duty: World at War. An official announcement is said to be coming tomorrow; we've contacted Activision for confirmation.
Update: Activision has confirmed that the Treyarch-ported "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" will launch on Wii on November 10th.

In all honesty, if the reviews are good and the rumor is true, I may end up getting this game for the hell of it. The only reason I'm even getting MW2 is because that's the only game my friends will be playing for the next year (likewise with 4 and W@W - I'm much more into Halo, Lost Planet, TF2, and even Shadowrun), but I'd actually get this version because I'd be genuinely interested in playing it pending it not being ass ugly of course.

So Call of Duty 4, on the Wii, will come out after Call of Duty 5, on the Wii?

Its probably the reason they didnt put 5 in the title of CODWaW. So it doesn't seem as awkward,

Well, not really, because it was never called Call of Duty 5.

This might satisfy those longstanding rumors that Modern Warfare 2 had been in development. It could also satisfy that age-old job listing at Infinity Ward for a Wii programmer (even if it is developed overall by Treyarch, they'll have IW staff on hand)
Either way, its good news. Further cultivation of the Call of Duty brand on Wii can only be better for all.

I would like that. I played it to death on the PC, but that didn't have Wii Remote pointer controls, and I'm a sucker for those kind of controls in FPS. If it's done right, I'll probably pick this up.

This has to be a fake rumor. No way the Wii goes from WaW to CoD4. Why wouldn't they just do Modern Warfare 2?

Actually, this is legitimately interesting to me. I got to mess around with World at War on the Wii a while back and fount it was actually pretty cool. I still prefer playing on the 360, but it wasn't half-bad. Could be interesting to see how it works out.

I suck at dual analog controls for FPSs, so this'll be nice.
Yeah, the reason I don't own a PS3 or Xbox 360 is because I suck at FPSs with analog control...

Wow, that is just fucking insulting to Wii owners.
It might not bad THAT bad if it wasn't releasing the same day as MW2...but that's just like rubbing salt in the wound.

Hmm... I loved MW on PS3, and right now I am loving the Conduit (especially the controls) on the Wii. So you merge the best of each together, it sounds like a good idea.
But there are definitely problems. W@W was ugly as hell on Wii and full of hackers. The framerate was nasty too. And, if Treyarch is doing MW for Wii, I can only assume it will have the same problems (that doesn't mean I won't give them a chance to prove me wrong).
If they make it a smooth, fun experience that controls as well as the Conduit, I might be down. But I am willing to bet this will be another crappy cash-in like Dead Rising: Chop til you Drop (assuming of course it is real).

Enjoy overpaying for a 2 year old, downgraded game on the Wii.
Posted: Aug 5th 2009 1:31AM religiousjedi said
Wait...how am I overpaying? I already have my Wii console. So I'm slapping down $50 for a 2 year old game (plus taxes).
So you're saying that I wouldn't be overpaying for a $200/$500 console and a $60 2 year old game (plus taxes) just to play in your same fashion?
Hmm...$50 dollars for a game on a console I already own vs. $260 or $560 dollars to enjoy one game...hmm...that's really tough...

How fucking stupid are you kid? I mean really? thats a serious question I would love for you to answer. Racist? How is a piece of hardware a race? and even if you went the route of "the Wii is Japanese" so is the PS3 and it has CoD4.
So now that we have the easy stuff out of the way lets talk about how fucking dumb you are outside of the misuse of racist. IW is first and foremost a PC dev. they made 2 games on the PC before even touching a Console and then after they started on the consoles they only made CoD2 for the 360 because it is a PC that looks like a console. The whole company including contractors is just over 100 people and that includes 402 who does not program. plus they have artists that do not program. On top of having a small team, they also develop and mod their engine instead of just using something someone else created.

Am I the first to say that anyone interested in playing COD4 actually owns a true next gen console? How many people with Wii's are going to buy this game? 75% of them are perfectly happy playing "casual games"

I own a Wii, I like FPS. I will buy this.
Now all of this clicky type console talk reminds me of being in school. Let's take a looksie at your running figure of 75% of Wii owners having no interest because they are too busy being casual.
53 million Wii units to date sold - less 75% casuals, leaves a bit over 13 million Wii units out there.
Any company would be happy to get that kind of sales on a title. Will it? No, but it'll crack a mil easy in the first 6 months.
And why all the Treyarch hate? CoD3 was not that great, but compared to what it launched against and when it launched it was much better than say...Red Steel. W@W is a great Wii game.

I own a Wii and nothing else (I get my PS3 fix from friends). And I consider myself a 'core' gamer, just one who happens to be strapped for cash and has a kid. The Wii is the smartest choice for me, even if wii owners do get shafted with crappy ports alot of the time. So as long as MW isn't a crappy port, I will give it a chance.
Not everybody has 300-400 dollars to drop on a system, then $60 every time a game comes out.
And it's not that wii gamers aren't interested in "hardcore" titles, it's that we refuse to buy crappily made ones.

So there's a $50 price difference between the 360 and the Wii. To say that you couldn't afford the 360 at the time is ridiculous. And MW will be be a crappy port because the Wii can't handle the great graphics, lighting, sound, etc. You'll be lucky to get decent multiplayer out of it, I'd wager. For your sake though, I hope I'm wrong.

Storm Eagle - so just because the box is $50 (depending on where you live, ever leave the county?) one should forgo previous user experience to take a chance on a product that has a good chance of 'something' going wrong with it makes sense?
Just for a game?
Idiocy IMO.
Of course if you'd like to foot the bill and have a big ol cup of STFU - I'll give you my paypal address and you send those bells right on over.

hopefully, the online will use the new thing implemented for GH5 on the wii, using only the console friend code. That alone would make the online better. Also, COD4 wasn't that much of a graphically impressive game IMO.

possibly a test to see how it sells or how easy it is to port?

I think the xbox360/ps3 owners are angry and have fear, becose if Treyarch release a game will all the features and modes, graphics as close the xbox360/ps3 versions, motion+ support, Wiispeak support and DLC with all map packs the original has. This port will be the Definitive version and the best!!
Due this Activision strategy is sure that we see MW2 on the Wii soon!!

I observe that Treyarch saw that they absolutely did the Call of Duty name "Horrible" in which he putted some great graphics and features to attract its users as well as new buyers and i found this as the good achievement of the producer...............

I am a Wii-only owner. I don't know why now, but originally I got it so when I did make a little time to play a game, I would have fun and not get sucked in like I used to with the PC games and X-Box games. So much life lost there. That said, Treyarch's COD 5:WaW used the COD4 game engine from 360 to create what I think is an extremely awesome and addicting online game. Sure it's limited, and I expect this direct port of COD4 will be equally limited, but I really don't care. There's no way this will be considered a lame addition by a Wii-specific gamer. Anybody who's enjoyed the work they did with COD5 is likely going to enjoy this equally, and that's a lot of Wii players.
It's nice that Treyarch set aside the time to give us a little taste of what you "hardcore" advanced system gamers have experienced. They threw us a proverbial bone.

If this is a full version, then that's awesome. The posts on this thread are more about hating on the Wii than Call of Duty. WTF?? Call of Duty 4 is considered by many FPS'ers as a classic and the Wii could use more FPS. For me W@W and the Conduit play very different from each other and I enjoy both. I want another solid FPS and I don't know of anything else coming for the Wii until sometime in 2010. And that’s if The Grinder gets a publisher. I absolutely think W@W has shortcomings, but not where game play is concerned. If Activision wants my money then I want DLC(or at least the original DLC content on disk), Wii Speak support, and more than eight player online. If it’s note full featured then forget it.

Well my opinion is that this game can be properly ported if Treyarch doesn't try to rush and I suspect that this port of the game has been in the process since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare came out. Your probably asking, Why the fuck would the game come out 2 years after the original release of the game? Simple. Quantum of Solace and World at War were both based of the CoD 4 engine. How would they make the two games if there was no test subject?
Granted Quantum of Solace wasn't the best game made by Treyarch but that was simply because it was a movie to game adaptation and they probably had a tight schedule, especially since they were building World at War also. And something everyone keeps getting wrong about the name of the Cod 4 port is that it's not called Cod 4, its new name is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. And to add to my thoughts on this port I have the feeling that all the map packs that may have been released on the PS3/360 or on PC will be added to the Wii version and they will try to maintain all the components of the original game.
Why can't we just have a little faith in Treyarch, because at least their bringing the game to Wii?

Everyone bitches about downgraded graphics, and how it's going to kill the game.
I still play Tetris. In fact, you could replace the neat & tidy square pixels with turds or Paris Hilton and the core gameplay is still fun. Trust me, I've tried it.
By the way, the graphics DO look terrible. Even by Wii standards.
I doubt I'll be picking this one up. Then again, I won't be getting MW2 for my 360 either. At least, not until the inevitable online bugs are sorted out.
