OremLk, That is a matter of opinion good sir. I personally find the value very good. I see only two games worth the purchase of a 360 (Fable and L4D, which I bought an arcade for) and about 3 or 4 for Wii and a LOT for PS3. So, I think paying the extra is worth the value, and you don't have to buy $50 internet, wireless adapter, batteries, etc.


But now, price is not an issue.

Sure it's a matter of opinion and circumstances. However, I don't bother with a Gold membership, never needed a Wi-Fi thing, and use a wired controller, so the 360 was indeed much cheaper for me. I will be picking up a PS3 now though.

Slim is the same price as the Go? Even if the Go is only £230 as some sites have it listed for, that's still only £20 cheaper than a PS3...

Hey there is nothing wrong with being frugal, but a good value is a good value.

Someone who still complains about the price now has already instilled it in their mind that they don't want one. Brand loyalty is powerful indeed.

I already have a PS2. I want a PS3 that plays PS2 games so that I can replace my PS2 with the new fangled model and reap the benefit that the power of a new system brings to the games of an old system.

You can't reason with PC gamers as we can purchase a brand new machine and still play every single game we've ever bought over the 30ish years we've been playing PC games.

The reason that I pay for games is so that I can play them forever and if a platform doesn't offer me that option then I quickly lose interest in said platform. The simple fact is that hardware dies and there's no reason to throw away a bunch of perfectly good software just because the hardware gave out.

If it can't be replaced then I emulate and if it can't be emulated then I wait for it to be. If Sony isn't concerned about carrying the software over from generation to generation then I'll simply stop purchasing their hardware, continue to purchase their software, and then play the software via emulators.

That's not being a fanboy. That's being someone who loves games, wants to play them all forever, and really really wants Sony to give them a reason to purchase a PS3. As it stands now, Sony is only giving me a reason to wait for PCSX3 and avoid their policy of abandoning software.

I still don't think thats a good reason not to get a PS3 to play new games because you cant play your old ones. So you are gonna miss out on a whole generation of new games because you cant play your old ones.

I'll miss out on the few PS3 exclusives for now but the vast majority of the PS3's offerings are on the PC or 360 or both.

Like I said; I want to purchase a PS3 but I will not support the abandonment of software. Sony has the hardware and the software and the know-how to make it work right now and they are choosing not to. They are actively and purposefully abandoning the PS2 library and it's disgusting.

I waited until the Jasper unit to purchase a 360 due to their horrendous hardware failure rate.

I have 3 Xbox games which don't work on the 360. While the backwards compatibility is a redheaded step-child on the 360 it is there in every unit.

No, what they're doing is keeping the market for their profitable PS2 hardware alive.

As long as they are not including BC in the PS3, they can continue to sell PS2s, and they make $$$ on each one. These last couple of years have not been kind to Sony, so they'll take the money any way they can get it. It sucks for the consumers picking up new PS3s, but it's a good business strategy.

People can complain but at the end of the day, Sony has to make money, just like every other company. I'm sure it would cost them little to nothing to add PS2 BC at this point, but their choice not to is a business decision. The number of PS2s they will sell as a result of this decision is no doubt higher than the number of PS3s they won't sell.

There are no games I want to play on it other then Littlebigplanet. So why would I want to buy one?

Now if it came bundled with littlebigplanet at the same price I would consider it.

The fact of the matter is that if you were interested in a PS3 prior to this there is not a good reason not to have one.

If you want backwards compatibility then go buy a launch 20 GB or 60 GB model. Simple.

The fact remains that if you have had an interest in the console there isn't a good reason not to own one at this point. If you were only interested in ONE game (first off you are an idiot and don't do your homework) then why even comment? Backward compatibility is awesome, I have my old PS3 phat and wont be getting this model for that reason alone. If it had BC I would seriously consider getting the latest model, so I guess it matters to people, now stop your whining.

Yeah! Forgetting only the massively reduced failure rate, and the fact that this video store will be available IN EUROPE.

While the system spec may be the same, I believe sony's video store beat MS out the gate by almost a month

Only it comes with a built-in internal wireless card, BD capability, a browser, and the ability to upgrade the HDD beyond 120 GB at a very low cost!

Look, yeah, it's about time Sony came out to compete with Microsoft, but don't go throwing this under the bus like it's not a good competitor with Microsoft's offerings, because it does have capabilities that the 360 has never had and likely may never have. It all depends on what you like and want out of your console system.

Btw, PS3 fat models used less power than an Elite...and didn't RRoD every five minutes.
