Sad news from the front, soldiers. DICE is not currently working on any new Battlefield 1943 maps or content for the downloadable hit, which has now drafted over a million players. Speaking with Joystiq, DICE Producer Gordon Van Dyke said the company is definitely working on the game's squad-swapping bug -- he believes it's a server-side fix that will hopefully be resolved soon -- but that all the effort at the moment is being put behind getting Battlefield: Bad Company 2 out the door.
"We need to figure out what's the best thing for the community. What's the best thing for the franchise?" Van Dyke told us about why the online hit isn't getting further development attention. He currently has "no idea" about when the company will get to work on more content for Battlefield 1943. That certainly calls for a sad face emoticon, don't you think? :(

I'm not even interested in BF:BC2. I'll take MW2 over that any day. New maps for 1943 seems like a no-brainer and it surprises me new maps aren't being worked on... Its like saying no to free money. Obviously they want BF:BC to sell but they shouldn't ignore there over product. Reminds me of Call of Duty 4... That only ever got 1 map pack, when they could have made more and made a lot of money, just like WaW is now but they left it too late.

I must be the only one who didn't expect any DLC for 1943. There's never been mention that there would be and everything I find pretty much says that there's only ever going to be four maps. It's not like this was a normal priced game. Heck, there's not any DLC for BC:2 either and I paid for the gold edition of that and still have it.
I don't have any problem with them not adding DLC for 1943. I got in on launch day and since I have a normal life too, I'm think I've only ranked up three times. Not to mention I get sick of all the deathmatch frag kiddies who don't know what teamplay is about.
I do wish they'd fix the flight controls. Those suck.
Other than that, it's exactly what I expected when I bought it.

there was DLC for BC. initially there were only 4 maps on conquest then they released 4 more for free. they sent out a request for what maps the community wants.
i expected DLC for sure, they would be mad not to as everyone still playing will need to get the new maps. and the price paid for the game in the 1st place justifies the DLC if it was not free.

DICE, you must be on CRACK!!!! You've made DIGITAL COCAINE with BF 1943. Why wouldn't you want to make us pay $15 more for 3 more maps? For real, I'd pay it 2 or 3 times over. All I'm asking for is 3 map packs with 3 mapes each. Not too much to ask for is it? Nah, you'd much rather try to make us pay $59 for a game that I GUARANTEE that I WONT BUY until it's $29.99 or less (USED), so, you're not gonna get my cash regardless. Nah, I'll be BF'in it up in 1943 THANKS!!!!

if they are smart they will release some more maps around december in the lead up to March next year for BC2. that way they keep the momentum right through until BC2 comes along.
we'll see some more maps for sure. just hope it is before BC2 or no one will even notice.

See, I won't buy Bad Company 2, or Call of Duty, or any of that junk. Those are for hardcore military FPS gamers, and I want it casual. That's why I like BF1943.
So it's disappointing that they don't want to give us casual gamers more maps.
It would be great if they allowed user-made maps as DLC...

So adding maps seems like a low cost scenario for them, as they don't need to alter the game itself, and just add content to their map editors. Also, I'd probably be willing to even pay for additional maps, like $5 per map even, as I really miss some of the desert maps, and I think we all could use a change of scenery.
A game this popular really needs more maps and content. Also, adding in a few additional weapons and vehicles would add tremendous value.
