I've heard of Curious Village and Diabolical Box, and Devil's Flute makes 3, so what else is there? Did I miss a hype train somewhere?

You forgot "The Final Time Journey" or something like that.
Devil's Fruit is the 4th game.

Ah. Still not localized, I'm assuming. Well, I just bought a DSi on eBay, so it's time for me to find out what all the fuss is about. Layton is among the most interesting to me, at least until Scribblenauts and my rooster hat!

It's a really fun game with a lot of unique character, so I would think you would enjoy it. Grand Theft Auto is surprisingly awesome on the DS, might be worth a try...

Third game is called "The Last Time Travel".
Second game is called "The Devil's Box" (in Japan)
Fourth game is...er...the above mentioned.

It's not Layton's fault that you can't solve puzzles.

Brownie Brown's track record kind of sucks. Remember Blue Dragon Plus and Magical Starsign?

I don't see your point. Both of the games you mentioned are great, the Mana games they've contributed to were decent enough, and Mother 3 is the amalgamation of only the best and most positive adjectives I haven't the time to type. They do great work.

F, I'm gonna toss out the yellow flag on the Mana games. Legend of Mana was the last tolerable game in that series, and even that was stretching it (I liked it at the time, but it didn't quite hold up too well). I haven't liked ANY of the BB-developed Mana games, and I really really tried to like Children of Mana.

Why SE doesn't suck it up and remake Seiken 3 for the DS, I'll never know.

Well, to be honest I enjoyed Magical Starsign more than the latest Mana games, and I really don't know where the Blue Dragon Plus hate comes... is a very good game.

And speaking of bringing games to the DS, Nintendo and Square should release an enhanced port or a sequel of Illusion of Gaia. I heart that game a lot.

DID SOMEONE SAY ILLUSION OF GAIA?!?

No, seriously, that's probably my favorite SNES game behind Chrono Trigger. If there was a remake on DS my heart would probably explode.

I hope you meant to type "whimsical" and terrible just sort of slipped out.

That's two strikes, btw. First with Psychonauts, second with EarthBound, for the love of all that is holy please don't comment on Killer7 next.

Come on Nintendo speed it up, there is reason to not release a new Layton game every six months so we are caught up.

Supposedly there is a reason, which is that they ran out of puzzles; some of the puzzles were Japanese-language-specific so they used puzzles from the second game to make the English release of the first one, etc. Consequently it takes a lot longer to make new games; we either have to wait until several more games are out in Japan that they can use the puzzles from, or a separate development team has to come up with a whole batch more puzzles.

I've heard this online several times but don't know whether it's true or not. If it is, there might be a reason for the delay. Reason or not, the delay is indeed really annoying. :( [But let's be positive - the second game just came out - yay.]

I'm now afraid of RPGs. I have been playing Persona 3:FES, that's rated at 70+ hours, for about 95 hours now, with the end still pretty far away. I can't imagine how long London Life will take.

It took them well over a year to localize Diabolical Box. If they ever manage to bring this one over, they'd unfortunately probably either drop the RPG... or we won't be seeing it until 2015.

But here's hoping Level 5 will be a bit quicker this time around.

I have to admit that I'm intrigued by the possibility of a Layton-type RPG, but not sure how it would work. Can't find puzzles until your stats are high enough? How would you do battle (please no match-3 type mini games to do battle)? The concept is intriguing and I'll admit to looking forward to how it will work.

Apparently all you do is wander around 'making people happy', according to the 1UP live blog last night. Doesn't sound like there's much puzzle solving at all. It's basically an RPG full of side quests.
In other words, Brownie Brown pretty much just made an RPG with the Layton cast.

Hmm? I thought they were calling it 'Professor Layton and the Flute of Malevolent Destiny'?
http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2009/08/19/tgs_title_list_round_1/
That's what the official title is on the TGS list, at least.

Either way, this is really awesome. I'm not exactly an RPG fan, so I don't know that I'll enjoy this all that much to be honest, but essentially throwing in a full second game is a kick ass thing to do.

I want this RPG, hell, it looks like they could package it and sell it by itself, and it'd sell thousands!

There are certain things (like sigma harmonics, nanashi no game, and the last two ds tales games) that make me wish I could speak (or at least read) japanese.

This is one of them.

I really hope this gets localised, and preferably faster than Devils Box...

I too hope it doesn't take too long to get this one localized/translated to English. I am enjoying Diabolical Box and already want the next game , the Time Travel one. (Professor Layton is the BEST puzzle series out there, just like Brain Age is the Best Brain series)
