Microsoft's VP of Interactive Entertainment Business in Europe, Chris Lewis, tells GI.biz that the removal of the HDMI cable from the Elite packaging was to enable more "flexibility to consumers who can then decide which type of cable they want for their specific gaming and TV screen set-up." Pardon us, but that's like saying Sub-Zero ripping out your spine gives your body more "flexibility." Of course, the drawback is that you're dead.
Adding insult to injury, the new Elite bundle isn't just shipping sans HDMI cable, it has no HD cables at all; meaning that consumers now have even more flexibility to purchase better cables. While any old HDMI cable will do (they're cheap too!), the Xbox 360 component cable is proprietary and priced at $40 (as is the VGA cable). Want optical audio with your HDMI? That adapter's proprietary, too -- and $50. In fairness, PS3s don't ship with HD cables either (they do have an optical audio port, though), and that's always been a joke -- a joke that Microsoft is now in on.

Sorry, I phrased it wrong. The HDMI Cable I use has two ends: One you can plug into a HDTV and a "Standard" end. The Standard end actually looks better on my TV than the cable that comes with the Pro. Maybe its just my TV, but the Dashboard and other game graphics look washed out. :P

this is retarded!
they could at least put a hdmi cable in, after all it's meant to be a HD ready console!
jesus!
the don't need to put the adaptor thingy they used to or component, as long as there's an hdmi one=/
it makes no sense to take it out!

Absolutely ridiculous.
"Here's a console centered around the idea of HD gaming...oh and here's some RCA cables. Nope, not even S-Video. Component? No can do, chief! You want an RF adapter with that?"
Adding even more insult to this new practice of not including overpriced cables with products that obviously use them is the fact that these cables often cost you a pretty penny at retailers...but the cost to the retailers is a few bucks.
Those $50 monster HDMI cables may cost a Best Buy employee 5 bucks (that's how I get mine).

I've had a 360 for years, and just picked up a PS3 Slim yesterday - shocked and delighted how the HDMI port was on the freaking unit (plus wifi) along with optical (which I'm bypassing for HDMI) - no $50 bullshit adapter necessary. I also had to CALL MS to end the autorenew on my Live Gold account - what an unnecessary pain in the arse. C'mon, MS - get your shite together!

maybe people who don't care for gaming or media will want to get it for twitter and facebook... but that would be really lame.
i was just saying the other day how great it was that MS provided HDMI out of the box and how Sony only had RCA composite cables, which meant no HD gaming or Blu-ray out of box.

Am I the only one that thinks that monoprice is working in a partnership of Sony and Microsoft? With all the cables they don't include in the box, they can sell separately and make even more money off of. Granted monoprice is pretty dang cheap, but selling a item that was once included is still more revenue.

again: HD IS STILL THERE. you can get 1080p off components. im doing it right now and all my 360 games look beautiful on my 72" samsung. stop compaining over an HDMI cable that sells for 3-4 dollars on ebay.(i bought 2 off ebay for 4 bucks each and use one for my blu-ray player and one for my dish receiver with no problems)

I bought one o' these here HDMI-less 360s yesterday.
Why? Because I opted to get a more reliable system than an included HDMI cable, because I already have one for my PS3. I also snagged a VGA cable for the 360 for some lag-free SFIV.
I can see why others are pissed, but it made my choice easy.
