Wonder if you could use a friend's old PSP/UMD... 3 free games for everyone!

No, the PSP has to be registered to your PSN account.

Nothing against PSP Go and I think it looks cool and all but I collect good games so, I prefer the actual copies of the games I want. If the games are PSN exclusive, then fine I can download them too, my PSP3000 and 16GB memory stick can handle it. So if Sony makes PSP Go with UMD I might consider getting one.

I have a friend who buys every system to hit the shelves so i will wait and check out his PSP Go and see if it's worth buying.

So far I am leaning towards getting one. I have a PSP but I don't own that many games as I primarily use it as a SNES emulator. I wouldn't be missing the UMD that much.

Tekken, GoW or GTA should also be on that list. Pretty sad choice if you ask me. Only a few are worthwhile and I already own those on UMD.

But it's still better than nothing i guess for someone crazy enough to get a PSP Go. But we also have to see if a 'deal' like this would ever even come to North America.

I'm afraid i'll stick to my older PSP's and my 80+ umd collection for a long time. Until they will release a PSP2, which most likely will take many years... if ever...

Are these games (which are some of the best the system has to offer) even available to download off PSN, I can't find them or any announcement that they will become available. Surely sony should have been uploading every single game available for PSP to the PSN to even make this a worthwhile replacement. Whats the point in removing the UMD to create better battery life etc if you can't play the best games?

Tekken: Dark Resurrection, God of War: Chains of Olympus, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty & Vice City Stories... In my opinion some of the best games on the PSP and which I enjoyed playing a lot. If they don't put those on the PSN store for download then Sony really doesn't make any sense.

This system is in no way better than the regular PSP, it's just another format-controlling, insane cash-grab from Sony

So if I already sold my PSP 2000 at gamestop for 100 dollars off a PSP Go then I pretty much own useless UMDs right now? Ugh, I was actually trusting Sony to come up with some sort of way of transferring the UMDs you already own over to the Go. Big mistake, time to cancel my preorder. :/

The really ridiculous thing about this is that Sony could actually use this method for physical to digital exchanges. I swear, it really is like 1 step forward, 2 steps back with Sony.

Hmm, I must be missing something with all of the anger surrounding the UMD-less PSP Go.

So, keep your PSP-1/2/3000 for your UMD games (and homebrew), and buy the newer PSP for new games. Like how I have to keep my old DS to play GBA games, and I use my DSi to play new games.

AND Sony will give you three free games if you prove you've bought a game in the past. What's the problem here?

It doesn't exactly apply to me, since I don't have a PSP, but I can see why some people are less then thrilled by this.

But again, I don't have a PSP, so I've been looking into getting the Go since I found this: http://www.gamesncs.com/rd_p?p=191613&t=9528&a=28522-PSPGo&c=&gift=29648

What if one is purchasing the PSP Go because their UMD PSP is broken? If I have a stack of old UMDs, then I cannot use this option, right?

I don't see why current PSP owners are bitching so much. No one is making them get a PSPgo. Just don't get one, keep getting UMD games and downloadable titles, and shut up already.

For people that don't have a PSP, the Go doesn't look that bad (although it IS expensive).

Because some people, including myself, just want to upgrade. Plain and simple. I was never a big fan of the old PSP style and this one is much nicer in my opinion. Another thing I like the idea of a UMD-less system, seems more practical for me personally.

I do believe Sony is going about this in all the wrong way though. I was all set on buying a PSP Go because I trusted that Sony would come up with some way to get our current games that are on UMDs onto the Go. Seeing this news is definitely making me rethink my preorder.

I don't have a psp, but it would make more sense to have the ability to back up your entire UMD library for free, cause you know, you own the game and all.

I believe I've detected a bit of a snafu in the headline of this post. An "upgrade" happens when you switch from a device with fewer features to one with more. When discussing a switch from a PSP to a PSP Go, the correct term would be "downgrade."

I too was hoping the PSP Go would bring more to the table, for example a second analog stick, and I can't deny that it is expensive.

I own a PSP 2000 which is running custom firmware. I do have a good library of UMD games and I homebrewed for the very purpose of playing these games without carrying around my discs. So, on the face of it, having a new, more expensive model with a smaller screen and same battery life seems worse than pointless.

However, given the fact that there's no light on the horizon for custom FW beyond v5, I will be buying the PSP Go; and this is probably exactly where Sony's thinking has led them. I want to play new titles like GT - and even "older" PSN titles like Colin McRae Rally 2005 require v5.51 FW - and I want to continue with the convenience I have grown accustomed to: that of carrying them round without UMD. I can't even access the Playstation Store any more from my current PSP.

So, a free download of GT, and three games I don't already is taking away some of the pain. (Although, I saw mention of Patapon 2 being on the list but I only saw Patapon?)
