Lego Rock Band tracks revealed, transferable to Rock Band

The Lego Rock Band disc export will cost $9.99 (800
) and transfer all tracks from the Lego disc for use on the regular Rock Band platform. "Spin Doctors -- "Two Princes"
gahh dammit!!... well then i guess the tracklist sounds good enough to rent and then maybe transfer over. I wish i could just buy the game itself but i don't wanna own a disc im not gonna play.
Bananarama @ Oct 12th 2009 11:20AM
You probably won't be able to do that with a rental.
"It appears to work in the same way as the conversion of the original Rock Band disc, except that owners will have to enter "a unique code from an insert in their game manual into a dedicated website" to activate the option."

That's what I was thinking, but then they said you need a special code from the game manual to put into a website? Can anyone verify if that's a one-time use code? Will people not be able to pass their game to friends?
Also with the export tool, will we be able to select which songs to export, because there's a few on there I'd rather keep out of my Rock Band 2.
GewurztraminerX @ Oct 12th 2009 12:06PM
@ davebo:
If LRB is anything like the Track Packs and RB2 free DLC (which I expect it is) the answers to your questions are:
Yes - the RB2 free DLC required the use of rockband.com which just meant it wasn't an instantaneous download from XBOX LIVE. You submit a code and email address, they email you a DLC code.
Yes - Joystiq just did. All RB codes have been one time use to date.
Sure - But i'd advise keeping the manual for reasons above.
Maybe - If it works like the Track Packs, then No, it's all or nothing. If it works like the free RB2 DLC then you get to pick and choose. I'm willing to bet it's the latter, because so far only the RB2 DLC required the use of the website/code/email/DLC procedure and it allowed you to pick and choose. Or maybe it was download all and delete individually. Don't remember.
Mike @ Oct 12th 2009 12:15PM
It'll most definitely work like the RB1 and the various Track Packs, where you can export them all at once but then delete unwanted songs later on.
VaultBoy @ Oct 12th 2009 9:28PM
Be the first to rent that copy with the aforementioned book and it might work. But you might have to "forget" to return the book or the next guy to try it is in for a sad surprise.
VaultBoy @ Oct 12th 2009 9:32PM
But yes that would be stealing - which I do not support.

Meh to Ray Parker Jr. -- "Ghostbusters"? Meh to you, sir.

meh to Jimi Hendrix - Fire?! meh to you sir.
mywhitenoise @ Oct 12th 2009 12:29PM
I don't know why he's getting downvoted. 5 good songs out 50 is definitely worthy of a "meh".

lol opinions
drew @ Oct 12th 2009 3:09PM
yeah. i guess that's what happens when you have one. and it's not the opinion of the majority of the people on this website.
VaultICEE @ Oct 12th 2009 7:44PM
You have an opinion? Then justify it other than typing an exhilarating
meh
Frellwit @ Oct 12th 2009 10:11AM
Spin Doctors FTW!

@Hafkie
Thanks, I got the conversion rates wrong. I was mostly trying to pull it out of memory. Thank you :D
@Chris
Why not just buy the game and keep the DL code and sell the game? I'm sure you can sell it to someone for 45$ dollars day 1. The 10 dollar promotion is only meant for those who pay full retail.
One last thing for no one in general...
If your upset about these songs not being included as individual downloads consider this. If all 45 were to be put on the store they would be 2.00 dollars each. If you bought 5 songs, that would equal the prices to transfer all 45 songs from Lego Rock Band. Don't be upset if you never planned on buying the game. The fact that you can't rent the game and transfer (steal) the songs isn't unfair. What is unfair is that you think your entitled to content because you rented the game. If the content is so important to you then buy it! I get so sick of hearing people say "oh that is to expensive for me." or "I can't afford that!" while they buy their over priced sub from subway. If it's important then buy it. (this is where I'd go on a rant about piracy...)

$10!?!? By Comparision someone tell me how many Songs RB1 had compared to this....RB1 was only $5
Bobby Kotick 2: Echoes @ Oct 12th 2009 10:24AM
But if you can find at least 9 good songs, then the price is fair ($7 to rent, $10 to export).
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Oct 12th 2009 10:28AM
I GameFly'd RB1 and transferred the songs for just the $5 cost, had another game in 3 days...this price blows
benjaminhain1 @ Oct 12th 2009 10:35AM
You can only rent and transfer if you're the first one to do it and you get the whole manual. (Read: "owners will have to enter 'a unique code from an insert in their game manual into a dedicated website' to activate the option.")
MarkHawk @ Oct 12th 2009 10:51AM
The game is about 10 dollars cheaper (15 if you order from Amazon) then Rock Band 1 or 2 was at launch. Plus Guitar Hero did charge you about 4 dollars for smash hits 22 songs and an additional 4 dollars for the 35 songs from World tour.
It's more then I expected, I was expecting 5 Dollars again but considering you can keep the songs and re-sell the disc, it doesn't seem to bad to pay 10 to keep all the songs.
Hafkie @ Oct 12th 2009 10:59AM
Actually, it was 2 dollars for Smash Hits, and 3.50 for World Tour.
When you divided the # of songs on the SH, WT, and RB1 imports, they were all at about 10 cents a song.
This is just insane though. I though Harmonix said they liscensed all new material for the Rock Band platform?
Also: Those who just wanted to rent the game and export. SHAME ON YOU. You should pay full price for this game. This is a great setlist.
Troy Powers (PSN: TroyPowers) @ Oct 12th 2009 11:03AM
I agree with Markhawk. If you buy Lego Rock Band and transfer the songs, you've paid a grand total of $60. So, pretty much, the cost of exporting the games is built into the price of the game. But, if you're not exporting the songs, you save 10 bucks.
I think it makes sense, considering when they made the first Rock Band, the though of exporting the songs to another game had probably never crossed anyone's mind. The $5 to export songs from RB1 was an afterthought. Now, it seems like they've got a pretty decent plan.
But, I guess it would have been smarter to charge $55 for the game and $5 to export just to stop discussions like this.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio [Planeteer | Power of the Anti-Fanboy Bitch Slap] @ Oct 12th 2009 11:26AM
Well as I said in the article about GH4 & SH's exporting fee's, I'm really annoyed RB did this. So much for licensing songs for the "platform".
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Oct 12th 2009 12:43PM
Benjamin....this I know...I can read....I was saying in reference to RB1 which all you need was the disc...no code
Eh @ Oct 12th 2009 4:27PM
RB1 also had a lot better songs. This setlist is as bad as Band Hero. Theres a few good songs that would have made them way more money as DLC but most of the tracks look like rejects that couldnt make it to the main game or as DLC.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio [Planeteer | Power of the Anti-Fanboy Bitch Slap] @ Oct 12th 2009 6:21PM
The songs are decent in my opinion, what really pisses me off is that Harmonix claimed they were licensing the songs on the "Rock Band Platform" so that imports would be more straightforward. This seems like a step backwards to me. Myself and a lot of others attacked Activision when they did this with WT and SH, and now Harmonix is doing it. I can't defend Harmonix anymore, even though I'll probably always prefer the RB games to GH. There should be a 1 use code only, not a 1 use code and a fee. It's stupid to buy your tracks twice.
Paul @ Oct 12th 2009 10:16AM
wait so are these going to be available in the rock band store? or are they saying the ONLY way to get these songs is to buy lego rock band and either keep the disc or buy that license key and transfer them over?
@ Chris
rock band 1 had 58 songs but only 55 of them were exportable. so 55 songs for 5 bucks and 45 songs here for 10 bucks....
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Oct 12th 2009 10:30AM
Thanks....I don't really think this is worth it. So I'm good with the RB1 songs I got for $5 along with the RB2 songs and "Smooth Criminal"
Troy Powers (PSN: TroyPowers) @ Oct 12th 2009 10:38AM
45 songs for 10 bucks is still less than 25 cents per song.
Martin @ Oct 12th 2009 10:42AM
Yeah, this value is ridiculous considering the amount of places you can get the disc for free or nearly free. I'll either Gamefly it and transfer, or buy used from Gamestop, transfer, and return it. Either way I'm getting a shit ton of songs for $10.
Martin @ Oct 12th 2009 10:45AM
Nevermind, I went and RTFA. My bad.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Oct 12th 2009 11:08AM
yea martin you have to have a code from the manual to do that, RB1 was just rip and return...
gib @ Oct 12th 2009 12:07PM
"wait so are these going to be available in the rock band store? or are they saying the ONLY way to get these songs is to buy lego rock band and either keep the disc or buy that license key and transfer them over?"
No, this is a full game, so you can't expect to see this as DLC. It's not like the track packs that are either already available as DLC (classic rock, vol. 1&2 packs) or will become DLC in the future (metal and country packs). They haven't (and won't ever) release all of RB1 or RB2 songs as DLC, so don't get your hopes up for this game.
Yes, if you are cheap/broke/lazy, just transfer the songs... Resell the disc to GS (for probably no more than $15, those greedy bastards), or on eBay for around $30 (more if you are one of those dicks who wouldn't say it has been opened and used). You'll end up paying more per song that way if you take into account the amount you lost in the resale, but I personally think it is worth it. There are more than enough songs to cover the costs...
Game = $50
Transfer = $10
Resale = -$30
Total = $30
If you want to compare it to the RB Store, you would get 15 songs for that price. If don't like 15 songs (that you would pay the regular DLC price for) from that setlist, don't buy the game.
MarkHawk @ Oct 12th 2009 2:52PM
@Rib
This is a perfect game to trade on Goozex. You can buy the game and use the DL code to get the tracks you want. Then you can trade the game for full value to people who know they are just getting the game. I love Goozex for the most part and feel good trading in a game there as compared to when I use to bring games into GameStop.
Check it out here: http://www.goozex.com/referral.asp?idr=6178756537285
(That is my referral link. If you sign up I get a thank you, but if you use the service I get some goodies.) I highly recommend it and learned about it from Joystiq's own Chris Grant.

BleachMan! @ Oct 12th 2009 10:24AM
I just remembered the game cost $50 instead of sixty... so it's doesn't so as much anymore, but still sucks.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio [Planeteer | Power of the Anti-Fanboy Bitch Slap] @ Oct 12th 2009 11:34AM
It still sucks for sure...$50 for 45 songs vs. $60 for 84 songs in RB2.
Peter Moore @ Oct 12th 2009 11:47AM
Rock Band 1 had 58 songs and was $60. It's not that unreasonable. Certainly cheaper than if it was all DLC for $2 each. It wasn't really until last year with Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour that you started to get 60+ songs in a game.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio [Planeteer | Power of the Anti-Fanboy Bitch Slap] @ Oct 12th 2009 6:18PM
Sure it's not unreasonable and I'll probably end up getting it when it's on sale, but what the hell happened to Harmonix licensing songs for the "platform". The way I imagined it working would be like the track packs, you put in a code and get to import the songs you just bought...not you put in the code, then pay $10 more, and then own the songs twice. That's stupid.
benbias @ Oct 12th 2009 10:21AM
"ghostbusters" needs to start giving credit to Huey Lewis and the News.
Ray Parker Jr. stole the theme song from their song "I want a new drug"
its common knowledge, but im still looking forward to renting, burning, and playing
Patrick @ Oct 12th 2009 10:34AM
Do you like Huey Lewis and the News?
Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour.
Filthy Assistant @ Oct 12th 2009 10:36AM
Who cares, Ghostbusters is a better song.
Filthy Assistant @ Oct 12th 2009 10:36AM
Also I liked Phil Collins more.

Have you seen Paul Allen?

Does anyone else find it amusing that someone is complaining about copyright infringement out of one side of his mouth and then following it up with plans to bootleg a game out of the other side?
