Unsurprisingly, Steyer makes the oft-cited connection between violent games and real-life violence. And when Doocy gives Christensen the final word, he cobbles together an anecdote about his friend the retail manager not selling copies of Modern Warfare 2 to underage consumers, which is met with, "You bring a game into a house, nothing to stop an eight-year-old kid from becoming a terrorist and shooting people" from Doocy. So far, we haven't received any reports of the game sneaking its way into people's homes or making parents blind and unaware of their children's actions, but we'll keep our ears to the ground.
Fox & Friends gets 'fair and balanced' with Modern Warfare 2 discussion

Did you know that there's a murderer in your house ... right now? It's sitting there on your coffee table, in your Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or PC. It's name is Modern Warfare 2, and it lets your eight-year-old child become a terrorist and kill people. Our pals at Fox & Friends got together for a "fair and balanced" discussion about the game's controversial airport scene, with the show's host Steve Doocy inviting Common Sense Media's Jim Steyer and /gamer's Jon Christensen into the fray.

I'm glad the guy that represented the gaming community totally choked and made us all look like a bunch of morons incapable of defending our viewpoint on the subject...
One word can solve this whole nonsense debate: parenting. That's what it's all about. Parents, pay attention to your children and what they're interested in. LISTEN to what they have to say about life. TEACH them the difference between fantasy and reality. All in all, just do your job as a parent and be involved in all aspects of their life.
Oh, and why are games still being held to a different standard than movies or other forms of entertainment?

Honestly, I found what Fox said offensive. They give the impression that all gamers are weak minded idiots who do nothing but bash controllers all day and get all their life choices from the games they play. I'm currently taking a journalism class and what they're doing is exactly what journalists are NOT supposed to do., it's biased, it's opinionated, ect. Just because an 8 year old picks up the game and playes it doesn't mean that they're going to become terrorists. They also made it sound like your a terrorist the WHOLE game. GAMERS RETALIATE! Speak up unlike the slashgamer guy. It's exactly like when Fox bitched about the Mass Effect sex scene, they had a gamer and someone prick who was crying about it and the gamer didn't speak up at all.

Nice job Jon. Fox obviously talked to this guy once on the phone and said "Oh yea, we got the right guy to represent the gaming community."

Can we get some people speaking on the behalf of video games that can actually speak? That guy totally looked like a jackass.

Bin-Laden is the living proof that video games create terrorists. What do you think he's doing in his cave all day???

First of all, to all the 10 year-old kids who don't understand this point, let me make it; Fox and Friends is NOT a news show on the channel, it is people talking about current events and giving opinions.
This is an OPINION, not a report of the news. Fox News Channel does a GREAT job at reporting news via their news show segments, better than CNN or MSNBC(proof of that is in the ratings. There have also been studies about FN viewers and education levels, and by and large FN has the smartest, and most informed audience compared to the other news outlets) by far.
That being said, Fox and Friends are wrong to bring this up if they are not even going to pop the game in and play it. The guy from slashgamer choked big time, which is too bad. I thought Adam Sessler was going to do the debate?
As far as this is concerned, if you think Fox and friends is a news show, then I guess you think Oprah and the View are as well(they are NOT).

They didn't even have a clear argument for what they were saying, and this idiot Jon Christensen failed to mention how you have the option TO SKIP THE LEVEL ALTOGETHER.

@freedomtown - you are just proving what everyone is saying, that people who watch fox news are ignoarnt. here is the quote i love by you: "It is the liberal far left, and out current president, that will create a country where panels will determine what is legal and what isn't, take away your rights, and do away with the army. Get your facts straight before wacking off to John Stewert, douchebag." because that is exactly what all liberals want. eliminate the army at once, take away all my rights. that's obviously obama's goals and i need to support that.
and this gem: "If you morons knew anything about politics, you would know that FoxNews stands up for peoples rights, and liberties, and what the founding fathers wanted for this country." please learn about our history before rattling off glen beck quotes. take a look at things that ppl like jefferson and adams wrote and said about their goals for this country. the main reasons for fighting were for religious freedom and equality, certainly not the things that fox enws stands for.
"In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own." --Thomas Jefferson

Really? All of these people attacking Fox News? Not every show on the channel is categorized as a news show. Has anyone heard of commentaries?
I know most of you are thinking about Beck and Hannity, but those are not news shows. You idiots, they are commentaries. Have you ever watched Maddow or Olberman? I am sad for the world that all of these people talk about this stuff and probably are just repeating what they saw on Stewart or Colbert. I know you are probably just getting mad at this post, but really just take the time to listen to ALL of the facts and decide for yourself, you wouldn't trust someone if they told you that you could go sign up for free money would you? Well, most people that thought for themselves wouldn't (see Detroit "stimulus givaway")

Typical media sensationalism. They take the scenario and spin it the worst possible way they can: This game lets kids pick up a gun and become a terrorist.
Gotta love the media. What rubbish. Next?

Fox News had originally asked me to represent video games in this interview (I am the head of operations and Franchise Office for retailer Gamers, Inc), but this fell through due to the local studio not being available. Wish I would have been able to go on, as here is what I planned on discussing:
-When you start the game up, there are 2 disclaimers with an option to shut off potentially disturbing scenes, including this level.
-When you play as the terrorist, the Russian gov't forces shoot back at you. Shows the consequences of terrorist acts.
-When you see this and play this, it gives you that unsettling feeling. Makes you realize these acts are bad.
-Activision states that allow you to experience this horrendous act to "establish an urgency to stop them" when you finish the game as the good guy.
-Shows, such as FOX's "24" and books such as "The Sum of All Fears" show you things through the eyes of a terrorist. In fact, in the book, the Sec Def and Secretary of State, along with thousands of unsuspecting fans at a SuperBowl in Denver, are killed by a nuclear blast. These portrayals of terroristic violence are ok in these forms of media, but video games are not?
-There is no definitive proof or research to show that violent video games make people ACT (not feel, but act) any more violently.
-Much like Fox News, we believe in the free market and are against hindrances to free speech, such as the anti-Fox "Fairness Doctrine". We believe speech should be free and people can ultimately make the purchasing decision, much as they do when they decide which news or radio hosts to listen to.

God, the only thing I hate more than these stupid Fox News reports are the stupid responses they get on gaming websites like these. Seriously, it's common knowledge by now that Fox News is a joke. Do we really need to spend five pages ranting about it??
