- Game Informer (5.75/10): "As a skateboarder and as a gamer, Tony Hawk: Ride is a curious idea but a letdown in practice. The huge level of frustration is not worth the time it takes to master the awkward gameplay idiosyncrasies."
- IGN (5/10): "The idea? A more immersive skateboarding game that would ride the recent wave of hit games featuring their own custom controllers. The result? An expensive proposition that neither casual nor hardcore gamers will get much out of."
- GameSpy (2.5/5 Stars): "As expected, Tony Hawk Ride is an experiment -- an interesting and ambitious experiment, but one that doesn't come together as a fully functional experience. I love the basic feel of the board, and had occasional bouts of fun amidst frequent frustration, but THR's gargantuan buy-in price is an awful lot to ask of an effective guinea pig audience."
- Giant Bomb (1/5 Stars): "While the Tony Hawk franchise has been down on its luck lately, and was probably in need of a reboot as dramatic as this, the execution is such a miserable failure that it manages to splash even more mud on Tony Hawk's legacy. I'm left with a firm belief that whichever side of the Tony Hawk/Activision partnership has the out clause in the contract should just exercise it and part ways for good. Enough is enough. "
Metareview: Tony Hawk Ride

We're so proud of the individuals who managed to play through the pain radiating from their twisted, throbbing ankle, and craft a review for the latest (peripheral-infused) installment in the Hawkman's gaming franchise, Tony Hawk: Ride. Here's what these brave, persistent critics had to say about the experience.

This is the future of the COD franchise, future games will be required to be bundled with a $80+ gun-wand accessory.

It's a $120 game based around a peripheral that doesn't work. It should be getting the lowest possible scores these sites can give.

the saddest part of all this? this game will STILL sell like gangbusters this holiday season.

Sad thing is it will likely sell well. Not saying this is the same as everywhere else but our Wallmart here has them stacked at the end of the main travelway. I went to go grab a holiday bundle and all the punk skateboard kids were hovering around the game. You just know what they want for Christmas.

Maybe they'll fall on their ass, give up skateboarding, and grow up?

Probably not because their mommy will be there asking if they are all right. Then kiss it better. Then the kid will turn around and say "Mom, go make me Fu*king dinner"

I'm so shocked about this! I was so totally sure that everyone without the ability to skateboard would want to climb onto a fake plastic skateboard and pretend to do it with gimpy controls in their living room.

Pretty much obvious from the beginning. They should've just made it cheaper though. I guess the price will drop now that people know it sucks. I guess this is one of those devices like virtual boy... expensive crap. :D... :)).. haha

Good to see a lame peripheral game that rested on an established name be shot down. Stop trying to push expensive peripherals down our throats and make a quality game instead.

I'm not sure Activision has made a quality game this generation.

Damn straight Duke, damn straight! I really like the skating genre of games, and Tony Hawk games used to get me my fix. I played the heck out of Pro Skater 4, Underground 1&2, American Wasteland (heck, even Sk8land & Downhill Jam for DS). Since Project 8 and Proving Ground was a big fat meh altogether, I've been waiting for Activision to publish a quality Hawk game this year, instead all I waited for was $120 worth of peripheral crap.

Is anyone surprised?
It's Activision. Any game that has that name is going to be a piece of money grubbing junk. Period.

My point is that the DJ Hero franchise has a very small niche, especially when compared to other rhythm games. I never said the game sucked, I said I was unimpressed by it and that the sales will not be anywhere near what they need to be to consider the game a success. You fan-boys and your illogical fervor...

You know, after years hanging around here, I'm still not sure what exactly the problem is. Are you guys just hitting the wrong button (in a UI that is admittedly a bit confusing if you're having a brain fart) or is the reply system occasionally putting the reply in the wrong thread?

Well, when you get an e-mail notification and you click on the link in the e-mail to view the thread, there is a comment box. Unless you click the "Reply" button, this comment box will add a new comment to the replies on the post, instead of replying to the thread that you were being notified about.
My assumption when viewing a thread would be that if there's a box to type in that it will automatically be inserted/associated/added to the one thread that I'm viewing, instead of being sent off to oblivion.

I haven't read all the comments, but has anyone pointed out the terrible misplaced modifier in the Game Informer review?
Tony Hawk Ride is neither a skateboarder nor a gamer.

Lol. Giant Bomb was *harsh*
"The game also has a party play mode, where groups of people can get together to discover just how unfun Tony Hawk: RIDE is in a variety of modes. You can also take the game online, where up to four players can have a bad time en masse. Or, at least, that's the theory. I tried on numerous occasions to find online opposition, but never found any takers."

Tony Hawk should just retire from making video games. He should just retire from everything.

Damn! You're one lucky guy. I think it was priced around $150 or so when it was released way way back in those years. One of the hottest collectors item. LOL. Good for you. You got one for just $30. :D :) Still expensive though...

Proof that adding a shitty peripheral to a shitty game doesn't make it a better experience....sadly it could possibly sell more.

Am I the only person that enjoys this game? Games that make you actually do something are not that popular, I guess. Personally, it's just as good as the first Skate, and just as hard.
BTW, THPS2 and 3 were the best ones.

There are good reviews too. I think Tony Hawk: Ride is very good but it appears that it isn't really finished. So we should wait of Tony Hawk: Ride 2.
