Board games can be surprisingly fun. Probably the only pure chance to get a few friends around and have a massive muliplayer session now most games are online multiplayer. A friend introduced me to Axis and Allies at the start of last year, and I was surprised to have liked it. Unfortunately the guy is on a gap year in America at the minute so I've been minus any opportunities.

I agree with your point about impulse buying. If I wasn't an impulse buyer I'd have Prof Layton and Pandoras Box instead of Scribblenauts. Forgive me but Scribblenauts didn't live up the the hype around it, while the first Prof Layton game did, so I'd been better getting the second. I'll still get it at some stage though, hopefully before the third comes out.

Nice to see another fan of Halo Wars and Defense Grid on XBLA.

Defense Grid was in my top 5 games of 2009.

Although between you and richard, I might go back to Halo Wars.

I'm ashamed I never beat Halo Wars. I bought the collector's edition the day of release, and got to about the third level and havent touched it since. It was fun too, i just don't know why I haven't played it. I think part of it was how much i was thinking about achievements rather than the game : /

I agree with you about Killzone 2. Massive dissapointment. A completely average FPS in every way. Doesn't even light a candle to the best FPS games of all time. There's one I wish I had passed on.

Go board games. I'll definitely second Pandemic in this list. Just can't get enough of it, even though the end-game is a little anti-climatic

Agreed about the endgame. I need to pick up the "On The Brink" expansion for Pandemic that came out this year to see how it changes things.

Cool to see the board game aside. Be sure to try Citadels if you get the chance. It's been one of my favorites.

Halo Wars was fine. Something different, at least. As someone who generally doesn't like RTS games (on the PC or otherwise), thanks to the Halo storyline and somewhat simplified (compared to PC RTS titles, anyway) gameplay, this one held my interest long enough to go through the single-player campaign. I generally don't have the patience for RTS games.

I don't know that I'd put it on my best of the year list, but I wouldn't say it's out of place. If they got me to play an RTS game, they must be doing something right.

I thought Killzone 2 was really good...
I guess everyone has different Tastes... You cannot Fault Someone for having different taste than you.

I didn't care for COD4:MW MultiPlayer because since I have been Deathmatching since DOOM and Duke Nukem 3D, well the straight up Gun Play is a Little same old same old to me...

I liked Killzone 2 because of Warzone. I never want to see a Flag again. Sure the Propoganda Speaker is Really a CTF mode but at least it is not a Flag.
I also liked the Air Support Bots and Turrets, it keeps it from being boring to me. I like COD:MW2 much better because of the Knife, AC130, etc... If all I get to do is Run around with Various Guns, well that has been done since the 90s.

Duke Nukem 3D had Jetpacks, A gun that would turn your foe into a Chicken, Laser Trip Mines, Pipe Bombs. So I like a game with some type of Twist.
Halo has Vehicles and Various Modes Like Zombies to Mix it up.
Warhawk has Various Flying Vehicles and Ground Vehicles and Turrets and Trip Mines to make it Different.

Which is why MAG really has me excited because the whole 256 Players and the Objectives are more Realistic. Take out Communication Towers, Anti-Aircraft Batteries, then Helicopters Fly in as a Forward Spawn Point, or you can Parachute in at a More Forward Spawn Point. The Game is a Blast. The Beta is open this week to everyone, if you haven't tried it, I Highly Recommend you do.

Totally agree with Halo Wars. I think it was a great console strategy game, but then again, I would expect no less of Ensemble.
