They need to make a universal server that runs all their games, then theyd have no reason to shut infividual games down

No offense mate but you really dont understand servers do you

and besides theres probably only 4 titles there that shouldnt be on the list basicallyeverything else is is a sports game and sure there forcing you to move on up to the newer ones but that just means the communitys stronger instead of spread over 5 games just spread over the 2 most recent ones

Actually I do. They could easily make an extensible server platform that handles any game they throw at it

This is fine for sports games, which are updated annually, but it has me worried about the current run of EA games that rely in logging in to servers to be playable first-person games. Wasn't there an outage earlier this week where Dragon Age: Origins players were blocked from being able to load the game? I'd hate for EA's need to control their servers make the single-player games I've purchased become unplayable in a few years.

Wtf, LoTR Conquest isn't even that old (barely a year). I was about to pick that up to play with a buddy online.

Lame.

Given that it got terrible reviews and was developed by a studio that is now shut down, they probably did you a favor here.

It's under $10 some places, so it's not like I was going to be making a big investment.

I played the demo, and it seemed well worth the 10 bucks if not more. Shame.

But wait, I thought paying for Xbox Live was supposed to prevent such things?!

RIP Burnout 3, best Burnout game ever made. :(

I find it odd that the PS2 version happens to be getting taken offline the same day Live is being discontinued for original Xbox games.

Yet another reason to completely hate online multiplayer achievements.

Agreed.

No trophy/achievement should depend on other people (see killzone 2 for the worst example), 10 hours of work, random chance, etc etc.

I just give up games when I collect all the reasonable trophies. I have too many games to play rather than play for 100 hours to collect a single trophy in warhawk or some bs like that.

This is seriously horrible. I know a lot of these games aren't my favorites, a number of them aren't even good, but it's always nice to be able to pick up a game years later and play it...fully intact.

I know Lord of the Rings: Conquest isn't great, but taking out the online completely strips the game of nearly all its value. Not to mention, for us points junkies, the online achievements will be gone forever, just sitting there, STARING AT YOU, and you'll know you'll never be able to reach them. Absolutely stupid.

All this, every single one of these games and their online shutdowns, stems from EA wanting to spam you with emails instead of swallowing their corporate pride and using Microsoft for their online supplies. In the end, yeah, they sent you a few annoying emails, but all at the price of not being able to play THEIR OWN DAMN PRODUCTS.

Medal of Honor Pacific Assault for PC

Little curious about this one. I never really played it online since my comp at the time could not run the game well., but I'm fairly sure this runs on dedicated servers anyway. What exactly are they shutting down here.

It's a slippery slope for them. I've amassed a backcatalog of games over the past year thanks to some pretty sweet deals and clearances of a lot of games. Facebreakers for $5, LOTR Conquest for $7, and a whole lotta NFS goodness for likely less than $10-20 total. Games like Conquest are new to me....yet to be opened.

But by the time I get to it, it will be "expired". Games with expiration dates are the scary thing. Games shouldn't have this. There needs to be a system in place which will patch games with axed servers, and allow for self-hosting your own matches. Internet speeds are getting up to par these days to allow it without fear of massive lag for all involved.

At this rate, I stand to lose about a dozen titles functionality. Lucky for me I didn't buy these at normal MSRP pricing or release price. But that's still a lot of games i'm now probably going to sell off post-haste. It's likely also going to affect future purchases from EA or any other company willing to do this too soon to a title.

THIS is why we need to have dedicated servers and LAN play for our games.
