As opposed to masturbating to making sweeping generalizations just because you can't appreciate something the same way another person can?

Nah, I prefer the rational party.

There are certain things Heavy Rain does right. User control over the plot is important, but ultimately i think if we're looking at how to incorporate a cinematic experience into videogames, Uncharted would be a better paragon, far more dynamic gameplay without the expense of either plot of production values

Nope. Progress Quest is the real glimpse at the future of video games. The degree to which people have become obsessed with achievements and leveling is proof of that.

Part of me wishes that Ethan's kids were the result of an experimental cloning test that took place in the 70's to recreate the perfect soldier. Then whenever he'd lose them in a shopping mall he'd yell:

"Snake? Snake?!? SNAAAAAAAKE!"

Crap, I used to like Heavy Rain, but now Molyneux just vouched for it. Now it must be an overhyped piece of crap.

Curse you Molyneux, for ruining games I actually liked!

jim sterling of destructoid says if you enjoyed heavy rain you're just someone who bought into the hype and drank sony koolaid, to add insult to injury he gives away who the origami killer is, effectively ruining the game for anyone who was only casually interested in playing it. needless to say, i no longer visit that amateur website.

he is a staff member. his featured article right now is bashing final fantasy 13. the psp go wasn't the greatest device in the world but he bashed it for the worst reasons (he couldn't figure out his router's WEP key, and blamed sony). Instead of bashing it for the right reasons (lack of software available). Guy is the walking manifestation of dog shit.

YES! YES! YES! Molyneux, license that engine, port it to your love-child, the 360, and make some bad ass games with it!

'I could not bring myself to play more than 90 minutes, because the world that was there was so dark and so emotionally involving I felt emotionally beaten up'
-Peter Molyneux

God, what a drama queen. Good thing he is so amazing, he can predict the future of the whole industry by hardly even playing the game. As you can tell, I don't think much of Peter and his theatrics.

you know what WM? He's right. Especially if you're a husband and father that first two hours is really impactful. You feel the weight of the events and you continue to feel their affect as you confront the emotional fallout on the other members of the family.

Those early events can feel really draining - which is a remarkable achievement for videogame storytelling. I'm only about three hours in and am truly amazed.

He's totally a drama queen, but as OnToGloryReturns said, he's not completely incorrect. Even at the beginning, where you have to choose which of your sons to play with first gave me a chill of foreboding. It's pretty damn effective at certain things which makes it incredibly frustrating when it's so ham-fisted with other aspects of the narrative.

I'm surprised that he's giving so much love to a PS3 only game. Kudos to him for recognizing a suberb game such as Heavy Rain and NOT be biased.

I'm on my second play through and it's funny how "straight up and honest to who I am" my first play through was, which I think is for many people, then playing through again "forces" you to go against your instincts because you want to play it through differently to see how things turn out as you go. It was actually tough going against my instincts to make different and/or bad decisions this current go round. I found a bit of conflict within myself in those times. Interesting.

As for a few saying that Sony should have waited to release this with Move controls, I could see that, and quite honestly, when Sony first announced new motion controls and strong use of the Eye, I envisioned and spoke of a cinematic game not unlike like Heavy Rain that could DEFINITELY use that tech to REALLY submerg players into the game. Now after playing Heavy Rain, I hope that Quantic Dream would consider another game using both the Move and the Eye in a cinematic fashion. I hope to see more devs go the Heavy Rain route in regards to serious decision making affecting how you feel and the outcomes while sucking you in emotionally. The use of HR's game play went a long way in adding emotion I never felt in a video game ever before.

I'm sure it's an incredible game, but this Molyneux fellow seems a bit like a noodlehead most of the time.

I remember when he orgasm'd over Fable 2 and the oh-so-incredible and apparently super-original idea of including a pet dog.

The future of games is almost always whatever Nintendo is going to do next, with some minor adjustments and improvements by Sony or Microsoft or whoever else will be making consoles.

The great thing about this game is that two people can play the game and have completely different experiences. The game was incredible. I don't expect anything to be perfect and it's a shame to see something so worth the time be put down because it didn't do "this" or "that".

Wait there's drama in this game? Seriously though, me and my friend were cracking up laughing the whole time playing it. It could have been such a better game if it had better voice acting and if I could see the damn choices in conversations. Single tear + death from slowest moving car = Awesome.

Is there ever a week that goes by when Peter Molyneux ISN'T making some bollocks prophesy about the future of games?

Just make an online multiplay version of Syndicate already, dammit.

The demo of Heavy Rain was so god awful that I can't understand why anyone found the piece of **** demo to be even remotely fun, and can't see the full game being any less boring. If this is the future of gaming, I'm definitely quitting.

It's the girl in the whorehouse, but it's not from the game itself. It's a teaser trailer they did back in '06 I think. It was supposed to show off their mo-cap and face-scanning tech.

I really hope it's not the future of games. While I really love everything about Heavy Rain, it won't take long for publishers to come to the conclusion that people like watching games and hitting keys in sequence. Then, whammo Spyro the dragon movie where you have to hit keys at the right time to move forward.
