All I have to say is "ABOUT FREAKING TIME!"

The prices that Microsoft charges for those HDD are ridiculous. I just bought a 320 gb 7400 rpm HDD to replace the 80 gb in my PS3 for $85, why should it cost any more to do so on the 360?

I am glad to see Microsoft finally opening this up.

Best case scenario is that the 250GB drives are the last proprietary Xbox HDDs made and MS moves over to fully utilizing external USB drives. Having the 16GB cap be permanent is the worst case scenario, but I think MS will open it up some in order to get more people to invest in the Xbox Slim- probably no more than 30 to 40GB unless they phase out the 60GB HDD.

Oh I know they there, but like you said, it only gets easier for them and there's things they could do with usb drive support, that we haven't even thought of yet.

16GB thumbdrives fit in pockets better. This is to replace the lame Memory Units I think. You can take stuff with you to a friends house. Its nice to take your gamertag and saves with you.

Awesome, epic, and synonyms for such words. I've already got an 8GB flash, why not throw 30 down for a 50GB? Far better deal than buying a MS HD.

Since I've only got a 20gb hd on the thing, any more space is better than none...

This is great news. I always wondered why they didn't enabled it in the first place, unlike the PS3.

Not trying to start a console war here; I own both consoles and I find the ability to use generic USB flashdisks on the PS3 is very consumer friendly. I'm glad I will be able to do that on the 360 too.

Junk, just noticed it says "up to 16GB." Sucks, but it's still pretty great.

If you don't already have an external drive you can use it really isn't worth buying a drive for a 16GB limit. Even if you can use the rest of the space for something.

This is good news indeed and I'd like to be more happy about it but this seems like a dick move so soon after disabling Datel's MU's.

Just buy the 120 gb hard drive . I picked one up for £30 preowned, its ace . I've got 12 retail and 20 arcade games installed. More than enough for any normal person . As for 32 gb upgrade, it will be nice for people that refuse to give in to the rip off hdd prices ,still not much use .

In addition to the production version of the Xbox 360 system update (flash), the February 2010 XDK contains two preview versions of the flash that developers can use to test titles under development:
o Production Flash (8955)
o "Project Natal" Preview Flash (8033)
o Preview Flash with USB Drive Support (9189)

Here you go, don't quote me.

16GB sounds reasonable to me, how many thumbsticks are larger than that?

Now only if they allow HDD swap on Slim360

I wonder if the Xbox "Slim" that's being rumored will include USB 3.0, and how awesome that will be.

Currently I use an external 80GB FAT formated external USB HDD to play hi-def 1080p movies using my xbox. I am really wondering how this is going to effect me. I suspect MS is going to screw me on this one with their 16gb max. If so I have had enough of their BS, especially after having to replace my unit twice b/c of the red ring of death. This will be the last straw

This actually shouldn't change anything for you. You can still use usb storage for movies and the like. This just allows you to turn a 16g flash drive into a memory card for the 360.

i love how they call those small tiny 16GB USB Sticks "Mass Storage Devices".... roflz

so in fact: this will be no gain for anybody who allready has a MU and a Hard Drive.
Besides that i can now put my MP3s on my USB stick... oh snap i can allready do that. *doh*

USB2 is slowing down Hard Drives (like 30MB/s while a normal HDD on SATA does like 70MB/s ) so have fun with your even worse then before Texture Pop Ins if you realy decide to use this for installing Games on it. omg lol

The achievement cheating script kiddies will have lots of fun if they can pull the data from a friggen USB stick now. Expect an increase of achievement cheaters by 2500% and an increase of reset accounts by 10%

This is only a step to retreat from the Memory Unit market.

The maximum number of usb devices per channel is 127 and the maximum amount is 16 gig so 2032 gigabytes per channel theoretically with powered usb hubs. Oh it's 2032 gigs for each so 4064 or 4 terabytes.

It would be super annoying to set up, but it could be done...

There are two PORTS, each PORT can handle 127 devices, that's the USB standard. Wether microsoft will allow this was not mentioned. The PS3 does.

One thing for sure. I can move much larger files back and forth should a smaller, slim xbox appear. I upgraded my 20g to a 120g for a really cheap price, but obviously that won't work on a new slim style should they remove the proprietary hdd connections. I bought a 64mb memory card for about 10 bucks to transfer stuff. Anything larger than 64mb i had to redownload. This will make things much easier to transfer once they allow this.

Kind of a dick move to limit USB storage at 16GB, since there are quite a few 32GB and 64GB drives out there (not to mention a number of USB storage devices that aren't actually flash drives), but it's progress, I'll give them that.

Kind of curious to see what they're gonna do with the hard drive for the slim though. I doubt they'll do the decent thing and allow swappable 2.5" SATA drives like the PS3 has always had, but it might be better then the price of the disgustingly expensive proprietary 360 drives.

The reason it took so long is because SOME of you people payed MS $100+ for 120GB of memory. That is why. You also pay $5+ for silly, virtual costumes. Nice job consumers, nice f****** job.

@tr1cky tpr. The PS3 has had the ability to read videos from a USB drive, something that should have been default on the xBox from the beginning. But no, MS would rather rip everyone off, overcharging on HDDs for the system and every other component. At least MS is finally getting with game... 'bout time...

What worries me is that there is a limit to only two sticks per console the worry is, is that at a time or registered cos if so that will ruin the chance of moving your profile. me and my friends play rock band at one house and of course have to recover our profiles every time. this update will be great for situations like that but if its a case of registering only 2 then it wont work .

The whole thing seems like an update for flash sticks more than hdd anyway, it seems like a good way to replace the crappy 512mb card only of course if its not a registering issue.

now all they need to do is make an update so you can allocate your controllers to any number you like (as you can on the PS3) then i may actually be content with the 360, i love it now but damn is it flawed
