LittleBigPlanet 2 trailer falls to Earth

Media Molecule officially took the handmade wraps off its game-sweding suite's sequel, LittleBigPlanet 2. How do you make a full sequel to a game that's already had a sequel's worth of free content updates? Media Molecule appears to have expanded its game-making engine significantly. For example, it is now possible to add AI characters called "Sackbots," with behavior you can record or define.

Levels can also be bundled to make a whole game, and those games don't have to be platformers. The trailer above gives us brief looks at racing games (one of which appears to involve players riding mice) and a Space Invaders-style shooter. You can even open use a "Direct Control Seat" to alter controls, allowing you to control objects that are not Sackboy, "and make a game that doesn't even remotely resemble" Media Molecule's foundation.

This sequel will even, in a way, act as yet another upgrade to the original: all of the two-million-plus LittleBigPlanet 1 levels will still work.

LittleBigPlanet 2 will be out on PlayStation 3 in Winter 2010.

While I never got into the level building of the first one, I loved the game, as a whole. Still haven't finished it, actually, because now, I'm starting over thanks to my previous PS3 giving me the YLOD and my old backup wouldn't restore game data on my replacement PS3 of the same SKU (thx, Sony).

Anywayz, this sequel looks GREAT! Wow. Great trailer, too. Good choice of weird sounding music. I had already seen several screenshots of this but seeing it in motion is a whole different deal. I will be picking this one up, too.

I was in the same boat a few months ago. You can use any save file you find on the internet for quick access to all developer levels/costumes, as long as you don't care about trophies.

(Apologies if you meant you lost a level you were creating, in which case: that just sucks, man.)

Oh, nah, I didn't lose a created level, although I toyed with one for shitz and gigglez. I lost my progress in story mode. That damn big spinning wheel kept effin' with me and that's as far as I got. Now I'm back to square one.

Didn't the developers say that they had made a fully working 'replica' of Command & Conquer?

That's pretty cool. When I have some more time over August/September I may look more into my copy of LBP...

Loved the original, played it for quite a bit, and this just reminded me how awesome it really was. Assuming I get to repair or replace my PS3, I'm gonna have a lot of fun making levels when I have some down time in college and seeing what my friends think.

The best reason to own a PS3.

It'll be interesting to see if they let you stack stuff in the racing levels more than 3 blocks high. Looking at those jumps, though, I think they're at the very least putting in a new way of switching planes. So we can determine that it is MORE 3D, but not whether it is FULL 3D.

Goddamit, I never bought the original game after playing the beta (didn't really like the loose "feel" of sackboy's platforming - in due to physics I guess) but the new creation aspects in this look too sweet to pass up!

I think I just peed a little.

I bought a PS3 for the original, I will definitely be picking this one up. I just hope that jumping is a bit more manageable.

I personally loved the music. It's not something I would be likely to put on my iPod but I thought it fit the trailer perfectly.

LBP2 looks awesome!

But what excites me the most is that E3 is less than a month away. And Sony doesn't keep something as big as LBP2 to show off at E3. What could be bigger?

But anyway, I gotta go to pre-order LBP2 now.

An incredible age defying game. I played LBP with my daughter and it's fantastic. The online community is without equal.

If i was to work for a software company, it would be this one. How inspired they must be looking at the wonderful, beautiful things that people have created with their game.

To be quite honest, and I'm a very hardcore PC FPS player, I don't think I have been in anticipation for a game as much as this one.

Absolutly cannot wait to load it up and play it with my little girl. And create some levels/games when she's in bed to surprise her with :)

PASSION PIT I LOVE YOUUUUUU. Seriously, loved the use of that song in the trailer. Can't wait for the game, btw. The original LBP was one of the most entertaining games I've ever played, and I put hours of time into the level creator.

This game just blew my mind. LBP 1 was amazing after seeing the trailer WOW!!!! This is why I love SONY.

Before clicking the Play button I was like "meh", not because I didnt think LBP was great, but I kinda expected a few developer levels and a gimmick or two added in the sequel.

After watching this, OMGWTFBBQ!!! This is one of the best trailers I have ever seen in my life. Going now to Amazon to preorder!

Holy crap, I'm seriously tempted to go out and buy a PS3 right now on just the promise of this game. That trailer was epic.
