@Wickerman22

Quick everybody, boycott Wickerman before his heresy spreads. He started the whole $5 horse armor fiasco.

It's obviously a redemption code for used copies like we've seen with UFC 10 & EA's titles. Expect the new COD coming in NOV to include such a code.

Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling, who stated, "nobody has to pay to play COD or MW2 multiplayer, nor will they."

Didn't say anything about MW3 there though. I HATE Activision

People are getting way to bent out of shape. It's just a marketplace glitch. I saw it a long time ago. No big deal. And even if they do offer a subscription it will fail as long as we don't succumb.

Chill

@Che J P This is the wisest thing I've seen -- glad someone remembers that the market holds the power no matter what happens.

It's "just a glitch" for another month or two until they officially announce their plans for a pay to play service for CoD...

Wall Street Journal: If you could snap your fingers, and instantly make one change in your company, what would it be, and why?

Mr. Kotick: I would have Call of Duty be an online subscription service tomorrow. When you think about what the audience's interests are and how you could really satisfy bigger audiences with more inspired, creative opportunities, I would love to see us have an online Call of Duty world. I think our players would just have so much of a more compelling experience.

WSJ: Is that coming?

Mr. Kotick: Hopefully.

WSJ: Are the customers ready for it?

Mr. Kotick: I think our audiences are clamoring for it. If you look at what they're playing on Xbox Live today, we've had 1.7 billion hours of multiplayer play on Live. I think we could do a lot more to really satisfy the interests of the customers. I think we could create so many things, and make the game even more fun to play. We haven't really had a chance to do that yet, so that would be my snap of the fingers.

It could be like the EA and THQ codes needed to play online.

Activision knows they can get away with a subscription fee for Call of Duty. I don't see why they wouldn't try.

@Speedracer98 Kotick's already talking about dropping the Sony franchise, so if that goes through as he plans, you can't play new CoD titles on it anyhow. Just Sayin.

It's only a matter of time until they start doing this type of business. Even though they still make a shit load of money, they will always want more.

Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling, who stated, "nobody has to pay to play COD or MW2 multiplayer, nor will they."

Check the wording friends, they said nobody would have to pay to play COD or MW2.
1) No mention of future Modern Warfare games (remember, they tried to take the COD out of MW2 - maybe they'll be more successful next time around).
2) It's possible the membership could offer something "enhanced" (think Playstation Plus) where it gives discounted (or free) DLC to members.
3) They said no one would have to pay to play COD or MW2 - does that mean they're rereleasing MW2 for free and reimbursing everyone who's bought a copy? (haha, just joking... but it is what it says!)

@Axcalibur "Discounted" and "free" are two words that do not exist in Activision's language.

As much as I hate Activision for what their business model has done to what was once one of my favorite games (now the game I hate the most)... I can't say I blame them.

If they offered a bag of dogshit and slapped "Call of Duty" on the side, millions of children and/or idiots would still stampede forward to buy it.

Hell, they'd buy it even if the statement went out that: "This FREE bag of Call of Duty dogshit can be had for only $39.95! Because we understand our gamers and customers and know that gamers want to be rewarded with FREE merchandise every now and then... It's our way of... giving a little back every now and then for their continued..."

In economics it's called willingness to pay, so as long as people keep buying sparklehorses, 15 dollar map packs, and horse armor, companies like Activision, EA, and everybody they own will continue to put out stuff like this.

Watch, Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 will have pay to hire companions.
