Scott Pilgrim pitch video shows an even more retro version of the game

Before pixel-art virtuoso Paul Robertson and chiptune geniuses Ananamanaguchi gave Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game its distinctive style, it wore its influences on its sleeve.

In this early pitch video made for Ubisoft (after the break), the game features pretty much direct parodies of Sonic the Hedgehog, Ninja Gaiden and Mega Man 2, set to chip covers of songs by the White Stripes, Smashing Pumpkins and the Ramones.

But even in this early stage, it's clear that the designers at Ubisoft had a handle on what they wanted to make, in terms of gameplay. And it's even clearer that this game was born out of genuine enthusiasm for both the comic source and the history of gaming.

Old enough to remember 8bit graphics being "cutting edge, high resolution!" and still realizing that they sucked.

I would like to get this version as well, where can i buy, me want now, me devolve longer i no get this, msut go PS3 in store now, me move, me go.

Sorry to say, but the demo was a huge let down for me. Maybe the game gets cooler as you level up and unlock a lot more moves, but after 15-20 minutes of beating up baddies and wondering when the fun starts was enough for me.

The game is fantastic. I bought it today, and I have to say I'm loving it. It's an absolute blast with friends.

Player two gets to play as flute cop, and gets a unique experience being able to transform into Dinosaur Soldier and Avocado Man among others.

Love the Mega Man intro with Toronto in the background.

That really wasn't a Sonic "parody" it was just the Sonic logo remade with Scott Pilgrim elements :\

This does look pretty good, but I'm glad they ended up giving it a "smoother" look.

He can do no wrong! I can't wait for the movie and game! (on the 360, 2 weeks to go....*sigh*)

Whenever I leave my xmb on Scott Pilgrim and the background pops up, I so want that to be a downloadable theme for my ps3 :(

This version of the game seems to follow the books much more closely than the final version. Though Brian Lee O'Malley himself said that the differences are intentional and changing it from the books was the point. Still I like the final version much better than this early concept and given how good this looks its no wonder the final game turned out as awesome as it did.
