This needs a dude falling off a ladder, or someone slicing themselves with a cheap samurai sword.

"All these activities now available in the Kinect ready 'HSN: The Videogame.'"

Seriously... Horrbile...

"I'm gonna jump back in and help you!... I'm coming back in and now two people will appear on the raft!..." *nothing happens*... *crickets*

A couple weeks ago I was wondering whether I should cancel my Kinect pre-order. Doing that right now. The amount of lag at the beginning was just unbearable for somebody like me who loves fine-tuning and calibrating games like Rock Band for hours to make it "feel right". Blah.

Actually, I thought it performed better than any other time I've seen it so far. That woman clearly didn't know what the hell she was talking about and was just reading what came up on the teleprompter, but she actually knew that you had to stand in front of the person to be recognized and it worked perfectly for her. The 'gaming expert' must have forgot about that one.

I sent this in to Joystiq over the weekend cause I thought the core gaming community would get a kick out of it. Also because it's further proof that Kinect is going to sell like crazy.

One of the all time great short stories! Also, just saw that there was a pretty well received short film of it released last year:

@Resonanse I see a lot of potential for Kinect once developers start putting effort into it. It's Move that I'm not so sure about.

@stubby boardman What is really important is that MS gives XNA developers access to the Kinect API. Got Knows we would see amazing implementations of it in XBLA and Indie games.

After playing around with the Move quite a bit, I am pretty sure when all is said and done, it will end up being the motion controller of choice (at least for me) this generation. I do have kinect pre-ordered, but so far I am not all that excited about it. My kids are wanting to play Kinectimals.

@Resonanse Gotta laugh that i get voted down for stating a subjective opinion. Kinect and Move are terrible; imitations of the Wii without the decent games. By all means waste your money; nothing good will come of these peripherals, look at the Wii and how many "hardcore" games actually use them correctly - they don't, because motion control is a step backwards for gaming [literally if you look at the power glove] and your fools for supporting it...

The only thing "good" that could come from it is that games become more mainstream...but then again do we really want that type of game to be the type pushed by ALL the major console creators?

You, good sir, have no idea about anything, ever.

The Wii has a few good hardcore games that do use the motion control well. But since Nintendo is all about awesome first-party titles that anyone can play, it doesn't really matter, since Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Kirby, etc. just destroy anything else that is release on the Wii.

Motion controllers are just a cheap gimmick until you put good games behind them. The Kinect and Move will both see their share of good bad games, not unlike the Wii. Even consoles without motion controls get the same. And it's not exactly like when devs see these peripherals they think: "Hey, I could totally make Fallout 3 based around this Wiimote."

If you have nothing good to post, don't post anything at all.

I did not repeat what you said, in any way.

This was you: "Kinect and Move are terrible; imitations of the Wii without the decent games. By all means waste your money; nothing good will come of these peripherals, look at the Wii and how many "hardcore" games actually use them correctly - they don't, because motion control is a step backwards for gaming [literally if you look at the power glove] and your fools for supporting it..."

This was me: Leave these peripherals alone, they'll be good in time, like the Wii. If you're going to call people fools for supporting a fun product, you're the fool.

Motion controls can make games more unique and fun to play and experiment with. If you're not open to this, go elsewhere and hate on something else.

@ honkyjesusownsu

I just think the guy is a bit of a douche, ragging on people who support motion controls, calling them "fools". I just thought I'd comment and defend the gamers who think motion controls are more than just gimmicks and the products themselves. Not attacking him per se, just telling him that I think he's an uninformed dick who isn't open to motion controls.

That is all.

Yeah... looks like they're marking it up a bit. But not as bad as it sounds. There's HDMI cable, 1 mo Gamefly Sub/XBL Gold, 2 games and a disc cleaner or something to that affect.

@majg You know who really does heavy markup? Fingerhut...they keep sending me catalogs saying "you're guaranteed for 1000 in catalog credit!" I use something I know the price of as a litmus and game consoles always have a 50% markup at least.

Actually it's 1 game, a 6ft HDMI cable, a month of Gamefly, a disc cleaning kit, and Xbox Live for $129.

You would probably pay the same amount for all that crap at Best Buy.

Its to compete with the mind bogglingly successful Nintendo Wii. Its an anyone can do it with a smidgen of practice party favor a la Rock Band/ Guitar Hero.

Even when i hear the term potential, there is nothing i can create in my sometimes over imaginative mind that = anything close to epic. Niche yes, but Im not playing any 6 hour + game standing up ANY DAY...

But there are two flaws with that marketing strategy.

A) Its so late in this generation of counsels that anybody that wanted the Wii already has a Wii

B) That Nintendo has a much higher appeal to kids-teenagers then X-Box does.

Its a nice idea, just executed poorly. They needed to do something to make it stand apart from the Wii, and besides no controllers(which will, IMO, cause more human/computer error then what a controller does), it doesnt offer anything different, especially with the price.

@jph89 MS is putting such a large investment into this product they are likely looking to Kinect to go much further than video games. Think how big touch screen tech is now compared to 5 years ago. That's what MSwants with this.

I'm more excited about the idea of computer navigation more than the games.

Not arguing with you since your point is well made, but the difference is that it uses no controllers, has pretty pictures and utilizes voice commands. It screams, Momm i want a Kinect!

HSN is just 1 outlet, i foresee cool ads on TV during our favorite sports or show breaks if no done so already. (i don't watch TV at all.)
