BTW, I now work at the Apple Corporate offices! Don't be hating.

I loved the first one, hated the second one.

So, I'm not sure how to feel about 3.

Though I am going to give Fable 2 another shot eventually, since I got it for free and all. I wanted to like it 'so' bad.

I actually skipped out on the first two; the first due to reviews and the second because I don't own a 360. But this is going to come to PC eventually, so it's the one I'll finally get. And I'm still really looking forward to playing it.

Me neither. Especially if those horribly frustrating and annoying colored-ball quests/challenges still exist. Those were so unbelievably infuriating I wanted to break the game disc on multiple occasions. What a horrible and stupid game design decision.

If I recall correctly, Fable 2 is actually an open-world-ice-skating-sim. Fable 3 is as well, from what I hear.

Seriously, Lionhead. Have you ever seen a human being run or walk? Do you have no comprehension of the friction that enables our movement? I've been replaying Fable 2, and the slideyness of your character's movement bothers me to no end.

That, and the magic system. Ironically, now that Fable 2 can be installed, the menus aren't half as slow and irritating as they once were. They put all this effort in to reinventing the wheel, but my character is still Apollo Ono in one of those "broken holodeck" Star Trek episodes, and it takes 10 seconds to charge up any spell worth a damn.

@Monkey D Luffy - I thought the first two were already dumbed down enough. They were always fun for the action, but unforgivably shallow on the rpg side of things.

I honest-to-God feel bad for you that Fable is your favorite franchise.

Reading it gave me the same feeling I get when I see one of those commercials for adopting a starving, homeless child in a third world country.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze - I'm in the Bizzaro-Boat: I hated the first one, and I'm liking the second one so far, despite it's well-known short comings (I got it for free as well, when it appeared on xbox.com for said price).

I can see why people don't like Fable, much like why I can see why people hate Final Fantasy. I have yet to meet an RPG fan who loves them all. Technical blunders asides, Fable 2 was pretty good. Hearing about Molyneux's line about polish and the two-year dev-time is a little disheartening, but give it time, and it'll be cheaper than $60 (plus, there'll be the GOTY edition with the various, overpriced DLC that gives you about an hour - if that - of gameplay).

I'm willing to give Fable 3 a shot. I just might GameFly it and call it a day.

@Mirhderer

Not when the movement in Fable 2 was just as clunky as it's animation. That's really the only issue I had with the actual mechanics of Fable 2 though. Everything else seemed fine. Glitches ran rampant in that game and as far as I can tell they are still around in 3. I got stuck trying to rescue my kid from the hobs in the first game when it spazzed out on me, not allowing him to leave the cave and treating the area around the cave like a town by filling it with random villagers.

Last night I got stuck at a certain tower that's part of a certain group of wizards' quest and it wouldn't let me through. I also shouldn't have to dashboard a game in order to reload a save.

I think that, instead of ditching the hud in 3 and only giving you two options when you come up to people, they should have just made it invisible when you weren't doing anything. I don't want to dance with dudes if my character is straight, I want to give them one of the hilariously awkward handshakes. They could have given you a button to press for each type of interaction (kind, evil, rude) and then popped up the wheel or just given you another three options so that you could actually use the expressions.

The other issues I've had are minor. Aiming reticule, which you never use, for guns is horrible. I can't even find it on the screen. I don't really care about the clipping and stuff, it's hilarious half the time, like when the entire population of Driftwood wound up stuck in the same rock. I'm surprised that the game wasn't knocked for all the hand holding it does. You don't have a damage meter, you just use a potion when it pops up down in the left corner, no MP, every good decision is mapped to the same button which is clearly marked, you don't have to decorate your own house, you don't have to create your own outfits.

RPGs are the only genre where I expect a good story, and I can't even remember Fable's. At no point was I ever really invested in either game. I see no point in playing them when I can fill what time I have playing Bioware RPGs. Mass Effect 2 is still GotY, imo.

I pity the fool that cant enjoy a good environment/story/humor/co op/world unless they are dieing every 5 minutes. Molynoux has said many times that he feels that dieing ruins the immersion because the hero of the story shouldnt die 1/2 way through it.

Just picked up this game during my lunch break at work. Cant wait to go home and play it.

Okay, I agree with the not dying part. It's becoming a trend in the industry. See also Enslaved where you can't fall for the sake of making your character actually be an expert climber.

However, it was laughably easy. Run here, kill these things, use a potion every now and again. Plus, the end of the story arch just sucked giant nuts. I wanted a boss fight and I got talking and Reaver. I don't want anything to do with Reaver in the first place... so why does the game have him finish off the bad guy for me?

This review is the first, and I mean the FIRST, bit of information I've read about Fable 3.

After being lied to about Fable, and lied to about Fable 2, I decided that maybe ignoring every bit of lies and bullshit that fell in big brown clumps laced with diamonds and jewels from molyneux's mouth might make the game end up feeling better than it actually is.

Without the lies, there are no expectations, and without expectations, you can't be angry when promised features spoken about as absolutes weren't actually in the game.

And yet, this review makes it sound like a big giant piece of crap yet again. Which is pretty bad since, like I said, it's the first information I've read about the game.

Sure, when I play the game, I won't notice that some feature he promised isn't actually there, or that something else he promised is dumbed down beyond belief (examples coming to mind for fable 2 include planting trees, watching them grow, an actual system of gradual aging, starting towns by donating to camps and caravans which would gradually grow, having children and watching them grow, all of which were simplified to the absolute bare minimum with all the interactivity, customization, and purpose ripped out), but I still won't be playing a new game. I'll be playing Fable. Again. And it will be mediocre as all hell. Again.

Let me guess. Your character still runs like a wheelbarrow. Right?

@Kanjimari Oh, and is there a mini-map? In Fable 2, Molyneux claimed they left it off the HUD because it would "confuse people" since the game was 3D and the map would be 2D. Which in itself is a pretty big sign that this man is too stupid to be making games.

I always found the map situation in Fable 2 both hilarious and awful. They don't give you a minimap on your HUD, but the only maps they do give you are nothing but minimaps which are awful to read and worse to navigate.

Intuitive.
