FFXIII might have been a failed effort at next gen Final Fantasy, but I'd pick it up for $20. In my opinion, FFXII was a much better game.

@Bewoulf In my opinion XIII was the second best in the series.

I didn't like FFXIII for the same reason I didn't like Final Fantasy X. It was so linear, you were lead around by a leash. FFXII at least had some massive exploration behind it. In my opinion, it was the best Final Fantasy in at least a decade and should be the direction the series goes. Exploration and storyline should be the driving force behind the Final Fantasy series. Not flashy battle mechanics.

Wait wait wait.
A game in which the main character wears a pair of overalls and a ridiculous yellow hoodie is better than a game MINUS this annoying twat?
C'mon, now.

Every lead character in FF is a freaking twat. Even Squall since they had to make him part emo.
FFX was fun to play despite being linear, but it still felt like a Final Fantasy.
FXII was an offline MMO. It truly was. It was the best MMO style battle system I've come across, but I couldn't help but feel it would have been served better as FFXI instead of what that game was. Still, if it weren't for Final Fantasy Tactics, FFXII wouldn't have felt like a FF game at all. It was a damn fun game but I never felt like I was playing a FF title outside of it being extremely polished.
FFXII and FFXIII both could have been called different names and it would have been more fitting. They're great RPGs but not so great Final Fantasy games. A series goes by a name for a reason, when you start to stray drastically from the formula, you better start making a new IP and leave the Final Fantasy name alone. FFX was about the farthest away from the formula that I felt comfortable with and I still really want an open world map again. "Realism" be damned, I'm playing a game either way.

"Here's a FREE copy of FFXIII. No strings attached!"
*bm111 crosses arms then sneers*
bm111: "Whatever, it's just not worth the time you need to spend on it"
*bm111 looks around to see if people in the immediate area are impressed, particularly the female variety. No one is and bm111 returns to his parents' house*

@Monkey D Luffy Actually X was the start of the downturn to the Series and XII revitalized spirits. FFX only had a pretty good story going for it, otherwise its a corridor fantasy similar to FFXIII but not as drastic. FFXII re-introduced and innovated on freedom and customization for the series which FF is known to do. It also re-introduced a mature theme story which we havnt truly seen since FFT. FFXII is the best in the series with FFVIII being a runner-up.

lol that's pretty funny. Guess what, the game still sucks ass and is a waste of free time. ;)
@Acosta02
"I've always played games for the gameplay rather than the story..."
Then you're going to hate FFXIII, they took out almost all of the gameplay, leaving only the battles, which you're expected to be content with for 50+ hours.
Even the developers themselves have straight up -admitted- they could only make half a game because they spent too much time and resources on the graphics. People who still defend this might as well send a free bundle of cash to Squenix with a note saying "please screw me up the ass more!"

why are the ps3 versions more expensive than their 360 counterparts? i have both, but i usually get non shooters on my ps3.
Posted: Oct 26th 2010 1:08PM Jack Kevorkian said
@pkpk523 Because gamely bought more 360 version to satisfy higher demand is the likely answer. Now they are stuck with more used 360 discs.

@Jack Spicer I saw Bio 2 for under 20 the other day and Dantes for 15ish. You save about 2 bucks for an inferior product with all of these games and help no one.
Well, it isn't as bad as advertising gamestop as at least the guys at gamely buy a whole bunch new in the games' early cycles.

So how is GameFly? I have a list of nearly 20 games I have yet to play this gen and I think something like GameFly would be my best bet.
Is their game selection ok?

@NaeemTHM
Their game selection is pretty good, its the waiting that is the tough part.
It all depends on 1) how close to one of their distribution hubs you are, 2)if you local post office uses their "fast return" option, and 3) if you want new releases or older titles. Since it sounds like you want to play your backlog via them, I'd say it would probably be pretty decent for that. Keep in mind the turn-around can take forever (≥2 weeks!) depending on 1) and 2).

@NaeemTHM Blockbuster has better turnaround times. I wound up quitting Gamefly because it took them weeks to send out anything regardless of its availability.

I've been a member of Gamefly since March and I've had really good experiences with them. They do not have a lot of shipping depots though, so sometimes it takes a little less than a week for a game to ship.
I signed up with Gamefly because there was a slew of games that I bought which were definitely "of the type" i generally enjoy, but I hated them, so now I Gamefly any titles I might be on the fence about. And if I like it, I just buy it from them and they ship the box and manual.

Darksiders was one of my favorite games as of recently! Some of the puzzles were multi-room and you really had to think about things.

To those who have bought a used game from Gamefly, do you get the retail box and paperwork as well or is it just the disc?
Posted: Oct 26th 2010 4:57PM Rirath said
@Breakdown - You get the retail box and manual if you buy or keep a game, with free shipping. Often times, if a game has bonus content codes or discs that comes with the retail purchase, they won't rent out that content but they will ship that to you as well.

The thing a lot of people miss with these deals is that after you've been a member for awhile, you earn perks. Every buy is 10% off, and every 3 months, Gamefly gives you a $5 off coupon valid for 3 months. The really sweet thing is that there is always 1 or 2 days when the old coupon and the new coupon overlap, giving you a $10 off (+10% more) on any game, in addition to the always free shipping.
BioShock 2 (360) -- $12.99 becomes $1.70, shipped!
Last time my coupons overlapped I got Metal Gear Acid! for the PSP for free, due to the total cost being less than $10.
