This is actually pretty good on the PC. Contrary to the screenshots from pre-release, maxed out the graphics are not as horrific as I expected.

The load times are massively improved over consoles too. I don't think I've had to wait longer than 5 seconds max between locations.

The wait times aren't nearly as anger-inducing as oblivion though.

@vask If you have an Nvidia card the newest drivers will fix that. Its the AA in the game causing the flashes.

My game is practically broken.

While trying load and start-up a save file from the menu, it freezes in the middle of the loading screen.

I can't even play the game. People, including Obsidian/Bethesda, do realize how ridiculous this is, correct? I want to go back to Vegas, I shouldn't be barred from its greatness.

@Shadowbender I've put like 60 hours into the game, but you are absolutely correct it is BROKEN! At least 4 of those hours have to be from the absolutely mind crushing loading, and then reloading after it freezes. Arggh!

@TheDarkWayne And what makes it even more hair-twistingly frustrating is that, for me at least, the game can be pretty challenging, particularly when encountering enemies. I could be the only one, but I died a lot, and when you have those loading times...argh.

But I swear, I really do love the game. That's the charm of Fallout. It penetrates all frustrations.

Ouch. I saw my brother playing the copy I bought him for 360. The loading times are hell, 30 sec to 80 secs?? I would go crazy.

The PC Version, the version I bought for myself, gives no loading times or at most to 10 secs of loading.
and with the community and their creation of bug fixing mods, my game runs smoothly.

I feel bad for the console players tho. No Mods = Wait for Patch.
it was expected out of this game though.

That was only on Game of the year edition, but I had a large problem on the game of the year edition of Oblivion. I put in an upgraded hard drive on my PS3 and for some reason oblivion wouldn't download game data to my hard drive. Oblivion holds about 5Gigs of data for helping load times, etc... but for me it would hit 500MB then stop, so the game would freeze up after a few seconds of playing. This happened on two different PS3s and two different upgraded hard drives.

Bethesda needs to get their crap together and fix/replace the engine they use. It's really amazing for making a massive open world to explore, but if it were any other game/developer their game would get horrible reviews and sales because of these bugs.

That's not Obsidian's fault. Blame Bethesda for having a faulty engine to begin with.

@making11s - My 360 game got stuck on infinite chase mode. No matter where I went, a guard was always chasing me, and I was always in trouble with the authorities. It got so annoying that I stopped playing the game on the 360 and bought it for the PC instead.

So far I haven't had any gamesave corrupting bugs on the 360 with NV, but I'm not holding my breath. I've encountered invisible enemies (that weren't supposed to be), VATS not working, and a few other bugs, but nothing that made me revert to a much older save to fix it.

With New Vegas and KOTOR 2, Obsidian is 0-2 in my book. They might get one back if these patches fix most of the problems, but for now, they are one of those "I hope they don't get to take over a franchise I love" studios for me.

@Shadowbender: Yes I know. Same happened with Fallout 3. But, you know, it not theirs fault. Its OURS. Because US, the gamers, review this game so high, and THUS WE BUY IT.

If we stop buying glitched games, they will stop releasing glitched games. I know every game has a little glitch here and there, but are minors and doesnt even affect the gameplay. This happens with Fallout and New Vegas? No. They was/are so broken that are nearly unplayable.

Gee, I sure can't wait for Fallout: New Vegas to come out of Beta!

All joking aside, I've heard some great things about this from even my most cynical friends, I guess I'll have to pick this up once the bugs are smoothed out.

@Mach2

It really is splendid. Despite the old engine, there are some cool design choices. A lot of things that you never saw in Fallout 3.

Gunplay is better, items are cool, and I like being involved with the issues between all of the factions. The writing is also really nice, with the same humor and wit of the previous games, making dialogue great fun. Customizing your character is a joy, locations are always interesting, weapons are satisfying, and enemies are spectacular in design. The story is something I was looking forward to prior to release, it sounded electrifying, and I knew it would be, but it caught me off-guard on how interesting it really can be, and how its handled through the exploration and gameplay.

Only complaints are, obviously, the bugs, and some of the missions aren't always clearly explained.

Voice-acting is impressive as well.

Wish I could keep playing.

I've already downloaded one update a couple of days ago and it improved the only issue i've really had of long loading times when on the strip. Guess I'll be downloading another one here in an hour or so.

I'm loving this game even more so than Fallout 3 actually. Very pleased with my collectors edition purchase :D

I played the game for about 5 hours on PS3 without a single game ending bug. I downloaded the patch last night and now It is a broken mess. EVERY TIME i go into VATS it froze permanently. I tried it around 6 different times. I even uninstalled game data and reinstalled with no change. What a joke.

indeed. i've heard enough good things that i want to play this game, but also too many bad things to pick this up right now. no way am i going to let game-killing glitches wipe out near endless hours of play.

even if i have to wait for the game of the year edition, obsidian won't see a dime from me until they patch. i'll just go back and replay the first 2 fallouts.

@aray48 You're right - they probably completed a build of this game the day before release, and then had millions of copies distributed to stores and outlets the following day. Or maybe, they finished the game a while ago, and have had weeks of dev time to create patches while the game was undergoing its manufacturing and distribution process. MYSTERY.

@Glad Retail games need to be completed a couple months before they are released to have time for certification, pressing discs, sending to distributors, etc. They just went with whatever they had at the deadline and in the time since have been working on this patch.

It really sucks this has been happening for people. This crap should have been sorted out pre-launch. Bethesda should have designed this game without Obsidian IMO. Luckily though I haven't seen any glitches in my 360 version...I hope they're not all waiting around the corner to ambush me!!!

The best thing about this game is that it compelled me to go back to FO3, which I'd abandoned about halfway through. Now that I don't have to go through any damned tunnels, I'm really liking it. And there are five juicy DLC packages for me to play through. Perhaps NV will fixed after I'm done with all that.

Only 200 fixes? In a world this massive? Of course they didn't fix the Bye Bye Love quest. or the ED-E quest? or the fact that if you kill a casino cashier (he attacked me!!), you can't cash in your chips (how will the casino create revenue streams if it can't collect money. Respawn him please!). I'm scared to talk to people b/c I fear it may break a quest later!

Beside this, I love this game. It had an abundance of quest that can be quite thorough and thoughtful in design. But they failed to fully QA and test them. You would think that bethesda wouldn't want to sully the good name of fallout.

Yes except that Bethesda is famous for making good games and making vicious bugs in the process. I can't tell you how many times Oblivion froze up on me, or there were odd bugs and quirks that shouldn't belong. Like mind reading guards that can see through walls when you are committing a crime.

@Faenix Except it doesn't. In RPGs, there is supposed to be real world balance. I love consequence in these games, but they should be matched by real world expectation. How would the casino stay in business on the strip, the epicenter of money in the fallout universe, if its one-and-only cashier were killed. It's an underskilled job and the NPC was basically generic. Now if I walked into a small store in the middle of the Mojave and blasted the owner, I could understand and appreciate the consequence.

The NPC in question came out from a locked door to engage me in battle. If I had known that it was Ultra-Deluxe's only cashier, I would have run (although I didn't even realize who it was until I offed him). Maybe he could have announced when first talking to him, 'I'm Ultra-Deluxe's only cashier, I"m irreplacabe, so don't go shooting me later when I come after you in the broken mission you are undertaking."
