@Jenks What's even more disgusting is when you realize Joystiq made a typo and Zynga's valuation isnt $29 million more than EA it's $290 million more than EA...

No it's not, EA deserves to lose money with all the crap they've been pulling like charging for cheat codes and game mods that are already on the disc.

In my opinion, that is an excellent point. Although I really don't understand social gaming at all...I would have never expected this to take off..

Shouldn't that be $290 million, not $29 million?
5 510 000 000 - 5 220 000 000 = 290 000 000

That's a whole significant digit more upsetting.

Facebook, and these kind of games, is a fad. In a few years there will probably be something better to replace facebook and all the crap games that companies stuff into it.

I honestly think Zynga is part of a major bubble, and that while social gaming will continue, the torch will likely be carried on by other companies. The userbase for Zynga's games is falling across the board, and they have yet to achieve success off Facebook.

This value is based on speculation, very far fetched speculation at that.

Basically it's like this (crude, but apt, example) - a kid sets up a lemonade stand and sells 5 glasses. The next day temperature rises 1 degree and he sells 10 glasses (not necessarily related). The speculators look at the fact that the kid doubled his sales in one day, they look at the 1 degree temperature increase, and then they also see that the forecast (which in itself is of course not 100% reliable) calls for temperature increase of 1 degree each day for the rest of the week. They take each of these facts at face value, combine them and arrive at the conclusion that the kid will sell 320 glasses of lemonade on Sunday. So they value his lemonade stand based on that, which is of course preposterous.

Zynga is like Apple in that its seriously inflated on the stock end of things. All seems to be leading up to another great "burst" like like .com industry had at the turn of the millennium.

I wasn't talking about EA losing money. I'm talking about all the money Zynga if raking in with some incredibly crappy little games. What's to stop other developers from demoralizing and start making more crappy Facebook shovelware instead of real games when they see profits like that?

Why are you all insulting them? You seem to be afraid of what a rich Zynga means.

It means exactly what it was always supposed to mean. Social and mobile games simply reach a larger audience, but since they only provide a "casual" disengaged kind of experience, they're not going to replace 'traditional' games that offer a more focused experience.

They're just serving different consumer needs.

It isn't about "casual gaming" at all. They are a pretty unethical bunch and them having more money is a frightening prospect.

You got a valid point, but I think what scares people if the fact that publishers seeing how profitable that market is might pressure their developers into making social games.
