I think they should do a "Tester" like show, but only, "The Developer."

Let some talented up and comers duke it out for a development gig in a major Sony-owned studio.

That's something worth competing for.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze The problem with that, and to a lesser extent The Tester, is that whoever one would have to face the stigma of everybody else in the studio feeling that they dont really deserve their job. The studios that everybody dreams about getting into usually have like a 5 year experience requirement, and going right from 0 to a job like that would almost undoubtedly cause some resentment

Good idea actually, would rather take part in a competition for the chance to work with talented people rather than playing games all day in a tiny booth for tiny pay.

Unfortunately nobody is going to make any interesting games in hours. Even a 24 hour developer challenge would really burn people out if done consecutively. Plus if you really had those skills you don't need to go on a reality show to get a job. Talented developers are always in demand.

I'm totally feeling this. But do it in a duo setting.

Imagine them getting into 24 hour crunch fests where they're supposed to complete a certain goal, like creepiness or comedy or certain platforming elements.. Whip up a small barebones game within that time, show the week leading up to it, and all the drama involved with high deadlines and the like.

Then, the winners gets their game produced and sold as a Playstation Mini. Their concept gets shopped around with Sony's support.

They're glorifying the job in an entertainment way. There's nothing much left for winners of reality shows. It's not like all the winners of American Idol became big time famous like Justin Bieber.

Sony might want to break into television shows. Reality shows get the most product placements. Sony already has Sony Pictures and Columbia Pictures. Hey, it's a start.

Well the idea to these types of shows is that everyone competing have the credentials and ability to win...
I'm not really condoning any of it, just saying.

@TheDarkWayne With the developer idea I think that lack of experience would be a moot point, since the person who wins would have to have experience developing games beforehand. You couldn't take a schmuck off the street and throw him into a competition with people who know what they're doing and expect him to win, unlike the tester.

Hey, if PSN users like the content and watch it, then more power to Sony and their customers. If they can make good shows that their customers demand and watch, then I see this as a win for not only Sony/PS, but the whole games industry as a whole.

I reluctantly admit to enjoying the Tester despite it having very little to do with games.

I think the cast should be all female to lessen the annoying douchebag quotient.

HBO started in 1972. Does Sony think they can start serving up HBO-quality content any time soon? Maybe they'll make something watchable by PS6 or 7.

@TheBatman4141 I think they're testing out PSN as a platform for delivering shows. Sony already have a lot of production companies capable of making high-quality tv-shows.
Before they can throw money at a new and better show, they have to see if people are interested in watching shows through PSN.

I like how he mentions being "right there on par" with G4 in terms of ratings, while 2 articles up, DirectTV just announced they're dropping G4 for being "among the lowest rated networks."

I'd love to see some PSN comedy come out similar to The Guild or something but using MAG or SOCOM as a basis or whatever other Sony games would work.

I don't mind original content, but please don't pull a Heros, 24 or Lost on us and start off an amazing series which deteriorates into a painful mess >_<

Or so a show like the 'Million Pound Drop' but instead of competing for money, contestants compete for a stack (50?) of the greatest PS3 games, vouchers for PSN content etc, that would be enjoyable to watch :D

Tired of Sony throwing half-baked products and keep telling people that sh1t will smell good soon. Spend your freaking time and develop something that works or something that people care about then you and my wallet can talk "again." Other than that, Sony, I am disappointed at you and filed a separation.

If they limited their online video content solely to a subscription like HBO, then they might have something (hint: Playstation Plus?). Instead, I get asked to purchase individual episodes, which I won't bother to do because the content just isn't there yet.
