I still can't get over the horror of just the thought of playing something like Ghosts and Goblins without buttons.

Or are the mobile versions toned down?

Not to be mean here, but what's the point of 3D on a 2D side view platformer?

This is what I'm afraid of with this 3D stuff on portables. EVERYTHING will have it. It'll be the motion control of the next generation. Ugh.

@Shockwave

Imagine playing a 2D sidescrolling Mario games on the 3DS... all the layers in the background would look in 3D, with depth. It would be a very pretty effect.

Same with games like Paper Mario 3DS... the graphics will look more paper-like.

The only example I have ain't a great one, but Wario world on Virtual Boy was quite cool in 3D, despite it being a 2D-style platformer. There were obstacles that took advantage of the extra dimension (like you needing to run behind or in front of swinging spikey ball thingys - which would have been actually a bit harder if you didn't have that extra sense of depth.)

That's it... the 3DS is doomed!

There was a so-called Wooo H001 phone released in Japan last year that has a glasses-free 3D screen, but it's hard to come by details on it.

Virtual controls should stop being used.

Just when it seems like Western phones are about to become as cool as Japanese ones they have to go and crank it up to 11. Well played, Japan. Well played.

The idea of glasses-less 3D phones has me pretty intrigued. Seems like it won't be long until we have 3D holograms hovering over our cell phone screens (read a news bit about some researchers achieving realtime 3D holograms yesterday).

That screenshot reminds me of Mr. Bones from SEGA Saturn. So hard, just like G'nG.

Capcom can do whatever it likes on other platforms, BUT PLEASE, make another side-scroller Castlevania, for the 3DS!

Right now I'm most excited for OoT. Castlevania would change that.

@Greippi
Konami owns Castlevania, not Capcom.

Oh wow, I feel really stupid... my bad XD
Hell, some of the games even have the Konami code used for easter eggs. I think I need some sleep...

As long as I can play these games on a phone with buttons, I am good. I just tried to play a Japanese RPG on the Android market on a Droid 2. It was far better to play it on its slide-out keyboard than the touch buttons instead. Of course the issue is that not all Android phones have a physical keyboard but its either that or bust for me with these games.

I haven't played it, yet, but it doesn't have the same
visual charm as the 16-bit, sprite based versions of
Ghosts and Goblins.
