Spoilers: It wont.

(In before still delusional fans claim it breaks the Sonic Cycle, how I have to give the game a chance and almost burst into tears, rocking backwards and forwards in the foetal position in the slightest hope SEGA will actually make a good Sonic game. I think after 6 YEARS of crappy Sonic games, SEGA has proven, categorically, that they wont make another good Sonic game. I think it's time to get over this, folks.)

Maybe they find enjoyment being abusive. They like throwing him in his cage and showing him pictures of the success of mario and forcing him into these crappy games.

They don't hate it, its just that people love it. Take note that this Sonic love is basically the same thing that a coprophagic dog feels.

Games like these make me really curious about the corporate meetings that must go down.

MS: "We need big names at launch, can you provide Sonic?"
Sega: "How badly do you need big names at launch? Make check payable to...."

Hmm, I've read previews that this game was actually pretty good. I think IGN gave it like a 7 or 8. That's is the only other review I've seen for the game.

Were those reviews co-incidentally followed by a full page SEGA advert or competition to win a Kinect and 'a cool game'?

Calm down guys. I said the only other review I've seen was on IGN and it was drastically different. I'm not saying one is right over another.

I'll be curious to see the metacritic rating on this game.

Yeah, I'm sure a site that has consistently favored 360 games in the past, and is HERE TO RANK VIDEO GAME SYSTEMS AND GAMES, not search engines or chat programs, and on top of that is a BLOG not an official gaming review site that lives solely on the games' ads that it reviews, is bias. Plus, lets not even think about all the times that Joystiq has come through for us and IGN has not.

Then again, I'm smart enough to be posting and reading on a site that I actually enjoy, unlike you, so the need for me fighting for my point is pretty much useless.

Which really has nothing to do with gaming in the slightest, lame comment is lame. Point of the matter is, Joystiq is independant, it isn't swayed by money or promotion ¬_¬

You all do realize reviews are also opinions right? I mean sure they are all paid by certain people and/or given free gifts to sway said opinions but it still comes down to opinions. This is classic case of one person liked it another didn't. This is why metacritic exists. If you're seeing a LOT of opinions in favor of something then surely SOMETHING must be good about it, and the reverse is true as well.

Sonic was never cool to me. 1989 i'd go to elementary school to have console wars of old. Nintentdo pwned everything to me, at times I would go to a friends house who was unfortunate enough to be stuck with a Sega Genesis that we'd play. "Sonic uses blast processing!", they'd say.
*Kany shrug* "meh... - Mario can fly briefly in a Raccoon suit."

I don't think a lot of people expected Free Riders to be good, especially as a launch title. Can't say I'm really surprised.

However, I do expect Colors (Colours) to be good.

In essence, that's ALL video games are supposed to do.

Stupid ass Xbox fanboys messed that all up. BUT TEH GRAFIX!!!!1 TEH GRAFIX AREN'T HD ENUFF!!11

Seriously before the first Xbox dropped, I never heard so much, "yeah but the graphics aren't that good" shit out of gamers mouths.

Kinect will not fail because of what Kinect is. Kinect will fail because it's on an Xbox console. Home of some of the most close minded niche gaming population in the history of video games, and a group of gamers that appear to run rampant on this blog. Just watch how quickly I am downvoted for proof.

You think people didn't argue about graphics before the Xbox?

Have you ever heard of blast processing? Mode 7? Parallax scrolling? Back then terms used to come up that described superior technology in some games over others. These days those terms don't refer to bits and polygons directly cause most games has passed that point. It's more about how many vertical lines the game has on screen (720, 1080) or how cool the mocap is.

The difference between then and now is that the internet is widely used and more opinions can be heard globally.

I honestly don't think this has a chance of failing. I think it's going to be a success in the way that the Wii is a success. It's going to sell a shit ton of hardware to the soccer moms and non-"hardcore" crowd. That is who it was marketed towards, remember?

Software will be another story. I can't predict that. First party stuff might sell decent, and the latest dance and workout games, but past that.. how often do you see anything non-first party on the Wii break into the NPD? Not too often.

I dunno. It's hard to predict, but I'll eat my wrist blade if this thing fails.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze - I think there's a distinct difference, though, in that I think over that over the lifespan of the Wii, Nintendo has literally tried to market it to everyone, and Nintendo's games don't fall so easily into the "casual vs. hardcore" dichotomy (I absolutely hate those terms, btw). For instance, I would have no idea on what side of that arbitrary scale to put something like Super Mario Galaxy 2.

With the XBox, though, Microsoft has said, basically, that "controller = hardcore, no controller = casual." Instead, they need to start making games that bridge that gap. On launch, the Wii had games like Wii Sports (which, with the flood of knockoffs, it's hard to see how awesome of an introduction to the hardware that game was), Excite Truck and Zelda, games that pretty much anyone could pick up and enjoy, but are deep enough to satisfy the long-time gaming crowd.

TEH GRAFIX is just one of the many things people would "talk about" regarding consoles since um, forever?

NES vs Sega Master System
SNES vs Sega Genesis
NEC's Turbo Grafix 16, Atari Jaguar 64 shall i go on? ...

Dude shut the fxck up, congrats on getting your 1rst console in 2010.

@Co Hm... seriously, maybe I'm just a lot more "PC Gamer" than I imagine, but discussion about the graphics of the games are very very older than xbox. I can even remember about two of my friends on "genesis vs snes" era, where I heard about Rock'n Roll Racing comparatives:
"hm... something is really weird here..."
"what?"
"the 'money things' you pick on the ground... in genesis they were... gray"
"in snes they call it 'gold'... you know, they are 'yellowish'..."

And really who never heard about Unreal gfx vs Half-Life gfx? even the mods were compared... =\

The graphics thing goes back even farther than what's already been mentioned here. When the Intellivision came out in 1980, one of its selling points was that it had better graphics than the Atari 2600. Of course, the Atari fan's response was that it's gameplay that matters.

Hey Sega isn't killing Sonic quite so badly as they used to, Sonic4 on iOS looked pretty good...they just need to stick to HiDef-2D or Sonic Adventure-style quirky psuedo-3D with more Chaos!!! Remember they had SA 1/2 and then...Shuffle on DC.

Indeed. To be quite honest, I really did enjoy Sonic Riders. At least, the first one. It wasn't perfect and there were certainly better racing games, but I still had fun with it.

Nonetheless, if the current games suck, then they suck. I at least know it's not a compelling reason to get Kinect.
