No amount of video game violence can compare to the roman empire.

Stop whining about it already.

Saying that violent media is okay for children because violence exists in the real world is not a valid argument. Just saying.

While I believe video games don't directly cause misbehavior & aggression in kids, I do think it's partially true. With online gaming on the rise, more & more kids are wanting to jump in on the fun. The online portion of the game is not rated by the ESRB therefore all the fowl language & racial slurs that are present in the online portions of most games are being absorbed by adolescents. Many people are very split on Xbox Live's policy of paying to play but it does to a certain extent prevent things like that from happening. Setting up a child account, giving the ability for the parent to monitor their child's play time & what games they played is a step toward preventing children to act out against parents & think its cool to curse because people online do it all the time. I'm not trying to bash the PS3, but the fact that PSN is free means that any child can just create an account without their parents knowing & jump online where all this takes place. I know this isn't the case all of the time but it certainly can be used against the video game industry.

Let's stop little kids playing video games, but it's alright for a parent to open a bank account for a kid so that the kid gets a free gun.

People swearing online is any different to people swearing as you walk down the street how?

You'd think an unconstitutional law would be the exact thing John Stewart would want to speak out against... apparently not.

@oJMan240o It would take to long to explain the ESRB, they needed something for the 5 minute slot between the news and the interview.

@oJMan240o Just covering this on his show raises awareness. Plus the bit about guns and video games in Wal-Mart is a pretty accurate incite.

Sorry if that humor was too subtle for you. Part of the segment was making the point that the court might consider banning a video game, but would never consider banning actual assault weapons that violently kill people. That's why the still image above shows taping a video game to an assault rifle so that the judges won't ban it.

Maybe you would have been happier if Jon had just stared the camera and gone on a political rant for five minutes about how you shouldn't ban the sale of games, but most of us don't actually want to watch that.

Are you kidding? That's what Jon Stewart usually DOES. I'm not surprised one of his regular viewers would be disappointed that this segment doesn't (quite) bludgeon viewers over the head with its message.

Apparently, we are not "hip" if we dislike Jon Stewart. Which is part of what I can't stand about him. He acts as though any sane person must inherently find him funny and agree with everything he says. In reality, he's as obnoxiously, smugly liberal as Fox News pundits are conservative.

The Daily Show, John Hodgman, and Ira Glass. It's like somebody took Stuff White People Like, put it in a blender, and molded it into a video clip.

Wow did that joke bomb. No one laughed at the Ira Glass joke, Jon had to explain to the viewer that was actually Ira Glass cursing.

You can even see John Hodgman just fumble over his lines after that dead silence.

The Supreme Court will side with the gamers anyways--I'm not worried about it.

But violent games are usually rated M+--which retailers usually check for ID. I fail to see the issue.
