The quest to uncover the North American and European release dates for the Nintendo 3DS became a little bit easier earlier this week, when the megapublisher confirmed that the eye-popping handheld would visit itself upon our store shelves in March. However, the exact date of its arrival is still up in the air -- though scans of the latest issue of Official Nintendo Magazine obtained by VGTribune might just clear up the confusion. According to the mag, the U.S. and European 3DS release date is March 11, 2011.
There's no way of knowing if the magazine's report is on the money until Nintendo makes an official announcement -- after all, it's possible the article's mistaken, due entirely to the fact that March '11 looks a whole heck of a lot like March 11 on paper. Also, though Nintendo is accustomed to launching new gaming hardware in European territories on Fridays, those kinds of releases usually come stateside on Sundays. We've contacted Nintendo for a comment on this supposed due date but, as is the case with these things, we're not likely to get anything official until the Big N puts it into a press release.
Update: Some of the magazine's readers are reporting that the scan obtained by VGTribune was photoshopped, and that it did indeed read "March 2011." Another scan on GoNintendo shows the release timetable in its unaltered glory.

Sounds about right to me. Though it is weird that a release date report doesn't come with a launch price report *fingers crossed for $250 or less*

For a device as cool as this is going to be, and like what the fck it's gonna be 3D without glasses! not many comments on here. I bet none of us can imagine 3d without glasses and what that could look like. I bet 90% of people are saying they will believe it when they see it.
But I believe.

Hmmm...
Still no price, and if it's $250+ like the rumors, I will not buy it.
The 3D seems like a gimmick anyway, that should be reserved for very large TV's and home consoles.

Don't worry, dude. Even if you end up wanting one you probably won't be able to find one for a year or so anyway.

Actually if you look at the big picture of things it is rather amazing. I mean gimmick or not this is something that is revolutionary. If I were to tell you 10 years ago that Nintendo would be releasing a 3D hand held system what would be your reaction.
We are moving at such a fast pace in the gaming community. What will be released next year was only dreams and visions when the gameboy first came out.

just like the analog was a gimmick? or how rumble was a gimmick? or kinda how motion controls were a gimmick until the other two top dogs decided to include and them with their console and everyone started blowing them for it?

Those weren't gimmicks. They changed the way games are played. An example of a past gimmick is the DS's 2 screens. Most DS games I've played only focus on one, while the other is used for on screen maps or extra options. One screen with touch capabilities would've been sufficient.
I think 3D is interesting, and i really want to see how it pans out on the 3DS, but it's still a gimmick. It won't change anything. What has me excited about the 3DS is the upgraded hardware with strong launch titles. I would like 3D as an added bonus, but it's not a feature i'd willing to pay extra for.

Seriously -- everything Nintendo does is a "gimmick" until it catches on, and then everybody else copies it.
Motion controls have been a "gimmick" for five years, with every internet troll complaining about the Wii, and now they'll all line up to buy Move and Kinect.

This is just a regional difference. Most consumer goods have a release on Mondays in America, hence their 'release date' is Sunday, with every expectation of the game actually launching on the Monday. Where as in Europe, games release on Fridays, with stock in-take usually happening in stores on Wednesdays.
It's not a major difference, really, and it's not a rule, just something companies follow. Lots of games don't conform to it either, Black Ops will be launching on a Tuesday, for instance. So if EU/US dates fall on the same day, then they'll likely release it mid-week or Friday or Sunday. Doesn't really matter, stores will gladly accept their money-printing DS successors even if it falls on an imaginary eighth day that Nintendo made up just for the 3DS.

I sure hope it isn't on march 11. That is the first day of PAX East. There would be aleast 60,000 people pre ordering it at the closest Game Stop near the convention center. I can see a huge riot breaking out when there isn't enough.

The only thing I have any interest in pre-ordering is this. I want it at launch. $300? I'm willing to do so but I'd be happy to pay less if possible. As much as my interest waned in regards to the Wii, Nintendo has never let me down in its handheld department. The capabilities, optional 3D, new IP library, GBA library and even the port library make me giddy with joy.
Oh, and the Professor Layton v. Phoenix Wright fan-gasmic collaboration put me over the top. Do want.

People really need to temper their expectations here. The launch lineup is probably going to consist of a smattering of ports and shovelware, with maybe 1 or 2 original games. Most of it will be unsatisfactory.
Launch lineups always tend to be mediocre and 3d isn’t going to suddenly change the world. It’s just a visual filter and it’s going to wear very thin without any good games. Be careful about rushing to buy it at launch.
Buy a console to get access to games you really want, not to gain access to some sort of technological artifice that a marketing department has declared to be the future.
