@Kuroyume Seriously. The Pro E-Sports pro scene is blowing up in the United States because of it. What cultural shift have any of these other games contributed? Starcraft II game of the year, hands down.

I want to know why 3D Dot Game Heroes isn't up there. Seriously, there a bunch of games missing. Like, where is Valkyria Chronicles 2? Thank God Alan Wake is up there though. And hell, don't even get me started on the most anticipated games list. The fact that there is not mention of Dead Space 2 or Resistance 3 is appalling.

@MatthewBlackwell - in all seriousness, though, leaving SMG2 out of the soundtrack awards is literally the stupidest thing. SMG2 has possibly the greatest soundtrack out of the entire SMB canon, and easily the best soundtrack of this year. I'd put Red Dead Redemption second, though, so I'm glad it's on this list at least.

Best "song" in a game should be "Callista" by Saki Kaskas (from the Afterlife club in Mass Effect 2)!

I can't count how many times I've just been to the Afterlife to chill out during side missions!

Well at least Far Away by José González is a good nomination. That's a great original song used in such a perfect way in that game. It deserves to win something.

Anyways it is pretty lame how Bear McCreary's score for Dark Void wasn't given any recognition. Goes to show how weird the games industry is. Just because the game sucked, doesn't mean the score deserves to be ignored. He's the best composer on TV right now, and he brought his stuff to such a mediocre game.

Most of the things you've said are subjective though. I'll admit the ME series has a strong story, but I still prefer the overall package of Halo: Reach.

I just think Halo's gameplay is so much more refined and perfected, the artstyle is vibrant/colorful and fun to look at, and for me it was just more fun.

I spent maybe 15 hours on ME2 I think, and the most fun I had with it was probably either Thane or Seth Green's character Joker. I've spent/will spend probably hundreds of hours on Halo: Reach and so far have enjoyed every moment of it.

ME2 is not a bad game by any means, I just happen to think another game appealed to me more.

Mass Effect 2 saved what was probably the worst year of the generation in terms of games. Looking back at the list this year really sucked, probably because so many games got pushed to 2011. There were a few good games but ME2 is probably the only "amazing" one and it should easily sweep the GOTY awards.

there are waaay too many amazing games to even play them all this year. If you've had a bad gaming year, you only have yourself to blame son.

But yeah Mass Effect 2 is fun. But you're joking if you think it had a good story, there was barely anything there. I'm not a big Halo fanboy but Reach definitely takes it on that aspect.

This year was so-so. The reason I say that is due to the birth of high priced DLC and sequels set on a 1.5 or 2.5 scale depending on what game in that series it may have been. By this I mean a few addition with barely any other improvements. There were quite a few great games, but of all the recent years, this year was the year I bought the least amount of games.

This awards show is on par with the Teen Choice awards, probably lower. What a wretched channel Spike is, even if they probably plenty of UFC content.
