@Complex

While this is great, I hope this isn't a sign of my console headed the way of useless things I don't care about.

But I'm pretty sure Facebook and Twitter will end up there anyhow.

Coming to Canada?
Asking because we usually dont get any of the cool services the people in the States do.

If yes, then I'm ditching my local blockbuster for renting movies.

@blueskyv201 Even if we did get it, we would most likely have a terrible selection of movies. I was excited to finally use netflix on my ps3 then I realized that everything I wanted to see was only available in the states.

@MLC I would love to see them get Pandora. It would be awesome if some games allowed Pandora playback while gaming.

@MLC

I've been using Pandora on my PS3 for years.

Although I know what you're saying... a dedicated ap.

Given how little horsepower is needed for the stream, it would be great if the PS3 could run Pandora streams as BGM for games. I suppose that can't happen thanks to a certain patent.

I hate to say it, but five dollars for a rental doesn't sound that appealing. I'm sure it is on par with the outrageous blood money Cable/Sat providers charge for on-demand content, but what is the incentive to pay that much when you can get a month of Netflix and pay far less per rental? Is it the instant gratification? To me, that isn't really worth five dollars.

This post is sponsored by: Rage.I wanted to rent Scott Pilgrim for myself and my friends on the 360 last night, and found out that it was also five dollars. Since I already had people over, and we were already intent on watching it, I wasn't about to cheap out, but I'm still seething with rage.

@BananaBoat

You just answered your own question.

Netflix only works if you want to watch old movies streamed or if you plan ahead and the movie isn't on long wait.

That's like saying why pay more for a car when you can just get a taxi everywhere?

It's there exactly when you want it.

And $5 is a dollar cheaper than the standard HD feeds of many cablecos.

@arkweld - It seems to me like they could make more money by pricing competitively though, and making it pointless for someone to use Netflix, or go to Redbox/Blockbuster. I know it's the studios doing and not Vudu/MSoft/PSN/etc, and I don't get their logic. There has to be a larger customer pool out there for people willing to spend a reasonable amount, than for those like me that got caught with their pants down in a potentially awkward social situation (those that didn't plan ahead essentially).

So that's MUBI, Lovefilm, Netflix, PSN Video, VUDU and Blu-Ray

Granted those are spread out over different regions but Sony really has turned the PS3 into equal parts gaming system equal parts video delivery system.

'VUDU is a wholly owned subsidiary of Walmart Stores, Inc.'

@Epoque

then you would be an idiot.

Vudu has the best streaming HD quality of any service available. Unlike the PS3 video store the streams are almost instant with full 1080p, minimal compression noise and DD 5.1+ audio.

I find it interesting that they are supporting this, since it directly competes with the PSN video store.

Love it though.

@Jon Jon yea, i'm sure Microsoft will never let that happen to on Xbox Live. It's unfortunate given that Gold members are supposed to be given the royal treatment.

@(Unverified) XBL doesn't need Vudu, since the XBL Video Marketplace already does exactly the same thing.
