GameStop's money bin kept on filling up in the third quarter of its fiscal year, with the company reporting $1.9 billion in sales, up 3.5 percent from the same period last year. The company saw a profit of $54.7 million, up 4.8 percent from the $52.2 million from Q3 of last year.
The top five selling games for the retailer during the period, ending October 30, 2010, were Halo: Reach, Madden NFL 2011, Fallout: New Vegas, NBA 2K11 and Medal of Honor.
Gamasutra reports that during an investor call earlier today, company president Tony Bartel noted there is strong demand for both Sony's Move and Microsoft's Kinect. The company is "excited" to see that the peripherals are currently in "very short supply" and that they are bringing in an "expanded audience." Company execs believe the two items are comparable to the Wii in terms of bringing a different set of customers to stores.

Dang... I kinda wanted to see the Kinect fail hard. :| guess my predictions were off.

@ovoon While we're at it, why don't we just pray for another video game industry crash? I think our entire hobby being ruined sounds like a good idea, for no explicable reason.

There's going to be one soon. Way too much shovel ware (both of the casual and hardcore kind) out there.

No, there isn't. The advent of the Wii averted the crash. The Move and Kinect makes sure it stays averted. Hardcore gamers are morons. That is all.

Eh, by crash I more so meant just rapid firing of devs. As the copy paste method seems to work great, for now.
And you're perhaps the smartest sandwhich I've ever met.

@A Sandwich - Why anyone wants to condemn well thought out innovation in the industry we love is beyond me. The plain old dual analog control the dinosaurs want to hang onto in exclusion of all other control methods will never disappear. They're good. Solid. Not going anywhere. You can argue about the implementation, sure, but touch screen/motion controls brought about by Nintendo in both the hand-held and console market have been an incredible benefit to the industry. I've never had more fun with some of the titles those both have brought to us.
In closing, the basic point is while I'm not too pumped about Kinect., Dance Central looks like a lot of fun. There is a great future to be had with the way control methods are evolving. I've really jumped on the soap box I guess, and I have no idea what my comment count is anymore, but I really, really tire, and lose interest in commenting here when I see the same lifeless tool comment a million times on this website every single day.

Yeah, because an overabundance of shitty novels and movies have sure ruined THOSE mediums.
Videogames aren't a tiny niche anymore. The industry isn't the pathetic footnote it was back in the Atari days. It's not going anywhere.

Dammit.
I should've bought the Move when Gamestop had that $15 off deal.
At this rate, there won't be another sale.

Congrats, Gamestop.
Very well deserved, indeed.
Though nowadays, I no longer frequent your stores, since you fired the manager that I had spent years building a rapport with, who supplied me with endless amounts of nifty swag and special treatment, and replaced him with a wanna-be gaming girl with a massive chest and the personality of a deflated soccer ball.
The trade off was not worth it.

Also my local comic book store did the same thing. Replaced all the cool guys with a bunch of chicks. Who try to show off their "bust" but, let's face it, the guys who go in there have more bust then them.

Guy: "Sho do you have any 20 shided die?"
Girl: "I'm not sure, but we've got plenty of these awesome Ironman action figures in! They're only $49.99 for a limited time!"
Guy: "I don't want your almosht-used Ironman comicsh or toysh, I jusht want shome 20 shided die! Thish wouldn't be a problem if Melvin shtill worked here!"

Yeah, basically is what happens. Except here the 13-17 year olds play 3.5 and up, for D&D, and the older crowd plays WH Fantasy and 40k. I go for WH40k but don't compete as I'm new to the game. Though, I'm 19. Most of the people there have been playing since Second Edition WH.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze I have a couple of man-haters at the one I frequent. The staff ten years ago at EB was incredible at the one I go to. Obviously it would be sad if they were still there, but man, it would be great for me. From the manager to the employees, they ran that place like a true gamers heaven. Now it might as well be a Starbucks, that just happens to sell video games. "I'll have the Grande Fallout: New Vegas Mocha Latte with DLC drizzle."

Gamestop - ugh.
Anyway, I don't understand the shortage thing. I own a Kinect and I'm enjoying it quite a bit, but every time I pop in Best Buy (any New York City location), they have huge stacks of Kinect. I've been to Best Buy about 6 times in the last two weeks and they're always stocked.
